Los Angeles Kings vs San Jose Sharks 1/24/16 Preview

Due to our featured game, Pittsburgh vs Washington being postponed due to #Blizzard2016, we’re going to take a look at another game on the NHL schedule tonight. I will breakdown the matchup and hopefully, give you some good daily fantasy advice.

Los Angeles Kings (23-18-3) at San Jose Sharks (25-18-3) (10 pm EST)

Though the Kings lead the division by a country mile, the Sharks have closed that gap over the past two weeks. Cut it in half to be precise. The Kings are one of the NHL’s best defensive teams (second overall), but the Sharks are eighth in league scoring and on a roll.

Vinny Lecavalier has been all the talk in LA since his recent acquisition. With three goals already, powerplay time, Marian Gaborik on his wing (on the third line), and a Milan Lucic suspension – The 1998 first overall pick could have a big game.

1997’s first overall pick, Joe Thornton has been even more dominant of late. He’s been great for just over a month now, and is on an eight-game point streak (2 goals, 9 assists).

Teammate Joe Pavelski has four points in his last two games and always comes through in big situations (as proven by his NHL leading 8th GWG). A divisional matchup with their eyes on first place is just the kind of motivation he needs.

The Sharks should push hard for a big win at home tonight, while the Kings try to slow the pace and hit everything in sight. A couple of powerplays could be the difference for San Jose. If Thornton and Pavelski can produce they will secure victory.

Kings Captain Dustin Brown has been terrible offensively this season, but as said for Pavelski, a rivalry for divisional supremacy may just bring out the best in him. You may want to take the chance if you’re really looking for a deal.

Martin Jones will be getting the start for the Sharks against his former squad, while Jonathan Quick minds the net for the Kings.

Projected Lineup

Starting Lineup

The Stars are in a 3 game losing streak. To make matters worse, defenseman Jordie Benn was placed on injured reserve Monday because of a lower-body injury. Esa Lindell was recalled from the Texas Stars of the AHL to replace him. It is said that Benn should only be out for a short period of time. Tonight will be Dallas 3rd straight game on the road.  The Stars are 12-7-5 on the road and 3-5-2 in their past 10 games overall.

Los Angeles are on the verge of their first back-to-back victories since its 5 game win streak that ended on January 4th. Last week was a big week for forward Anze Kopitar. He scored 2 goals and 5 assists in the three games the Kings played. The Slovenian was named with the NHL 3rd star of the week. One player that needed a big change to turn is season around is Vincent Lecavalier. He has scored a goal in each of the past two games and scored 2 goals and an assist in five games since he and defenseman Luke Schenn were acquired by the Kings in a trade with the Philadelphia Flyers.
