A quarterback change for Cleveland could lead to more opportunities for Duke Johnson

Week 3’s Daily Fantasy Football (DFS) picks produced another week in the green, albeit barely, but profit is profit. Kenyan Drake was the weakest link of all of the picks while Julio Jones’ trademark lack of touchdowns was exacerbated by rookie Calvin Ridley’s breakout performance.

For Week 4 we have some decent game score projections, although not as high as last week, but it still is a solid week to try some game stacks.

Bengals at Falcons with a game total of 51

Saints at Giants with a game total of 50

Browns at Raiders with a game total of 45

These games should have loads of fantasy goodness so I would consider getting players from these games as much as possible.

So, now that my synopsis is out of the way let’s get into my Week 4 DFS Picks shall we?

Teams on bye: Carolina, Washington

Week 4 Core Plays

These will be my top plays for the Sunday-Monday slate of games. These are players who I will try to have in as many lineups of mine as possible. If I can, I will use three or all four in one lineup. A reminder that for cash games going with an elite quarterback is typically recommended. If you go value at quarterback he MUST meet value for your loaded lineup to be worth it.

QB: Deshaun Watson, Houston at Indianapolis

Watson has had a nice few weeks after his rocky Week 1 start in his return from a torn ACL. If the youngster can reduce his mistakes and continue throwing the ball to his two amazingly talented wide receivers (DeAndre Hopkins, Will Fuller) to put together 300-yard passing games then he will become a must-start fantasy QB once again. This week is one of those where he is facing an appealing defense, as the Colts are allowing more than 240 yards per game through the air. Tom Brady is poised for a better matchup (vs. Miami), but he is more expensive. Watson also has more mobility which results in more possibility to score some points on the ground (yards, TDs).

RB: Ezekiel Elliott, Dallas vs. Detroit

Elliott is tied for the league lead in rushing with 274 yards through three weeks. This week he faces a defense that has been getting shredded on the ground so far this season. Elliott is getting fed the ball plenty and that should continue. Zeke’s price is right given the volume, and there’s added upside of getting some red-zone carries this week. The concern is that the Lions get ahead early, but the Cowboys need Elliott too much to remove him entirely from the game plan, even when playing from behind.

WR: Odell Beckham Jr., New York Giants vs. Saints

The Saints are a high-flying and high-scoring offense, but on the other side they have one of the worst pass defenses in the league this season, allowing a whopping 246 yards through the air in the early going. Beckham has yet to find the end zone this season, but he is averaging 10 targets per game and the production with those has been there. Beckham’s breakout game is coming and this is the week it could happen. This could be a trap week where a teammate like Sterling Shephard has the big game (a la Calvin Ridley last week). I think Beckham is worth the price though this week. If Beckham feels too risky for cash contests, go ahead and pay up for Michael Thomas this week.

WR: Jarvis Landry, Cleveland at Oakland

Landry will have an entire week to continue developing a connection with his new starting quarterback, Baker Mayfield. Landry should be the focal point of the passing game and Mayfield’s top target. I would fully expect Landry to keep seeing 15-plus targets as he has twice this year already, and Mayfield showed last Thursday night that he’s pretty accurate with his throws. Yes it’s an incredibly small sample size, but the early signs are very promising. If this continues, expect better numbers from Landry.

TE: Eric Ebron, Indianapolis vs. Houston

Ebron has already developed a nice rapport with Andrew Luck, something that has been helped by Jack Doyle’s injury issues. Ebron already has caught two touchdown passes in three games compared to four in 16 games with Detroit last season. Drops are still an issue (five catches on 11 targets thus far), but as long as Doyle is out/limited, the volume should be there, especially in the red zone. All of that and he’s available at a fair price too.

Value Plays of the Week

QB: Josh Allen, Buffalo at Green Bay

Allen had a spectacular debut against the Vikings in what was one of the most surprising upsets in recent memory. Allen looked poised, mobile and most importantly, accurate. He also had plenty of catchable balls dropped by Kelvin Benjamin. Green Bay’s defense is not better than Minnesota’s, even given the struggles the Vikings had last week. Allen will not likely duplicate his Week 3 production, these still are the Bills, but he should be able to meet value in relation to his cheap price, especially if Buffalo falls behind early (as expected). In GPP using Allen and loading up at WR or RB is not a terrible idea.

RB: Duke Johnson, Cleveland at Oakland

Johnson has not been involved nearly as much as fantasy owners had hoped this season. Carlos Hyde is taking the feature back role and, well, running with it. This week though I can certainly see a back like Johnson being utilized more as a safety valve with Baker Mayfield taking over at quarterback. This price means Johnson only needs to get to eight points to double his value. There hasn’t been much foreshadowing this year for Johnson, but at this price I am taking a leap of faith.

WR: Sterling Shepard, New York Giants vs. Saints

Remember I mentioned a potential Calvin Ridley-esque performance happening in this game because of the presence of Odell Beckham Jr.? Well, why not cover our bases with this receiver stack this week? If you have more money to spend you also could add Eli Manning and make it a full stack. For all of the reasons I mentioned earlier Shepard is a nice play as well.

NBA Finals Fantasy Game 1 Recap

Cleveland Cavaliers vs Golden State Warriors

The Cleveland Cavaliers and the Golden State Warriors began their NBA Finals rematch this past thursday at the Oracle Arena. With the Cavaliers coming into this game with the best postseason record thus far (12-2) and outscoring opponents by a combined 177 pts, Game 1’s result was quite a surprise and unusual for NBA Fans.

Not only that the season record breaking Golden State Warriors took game 1 to the Cavaliers, 104-89,  in comfortable fashion, the fact that Stephen Curry and and Klay Thompson struggled throughout the game will raise many questions to the Cavs.

The response from the bench when both Splash Brothers were unable to make their presence felt was nothing but astounding.

Shaun Livingston put up some impressive numbers in game 1 with a career playoff high of 20 pts. He went 8 for 10 from the field with 4 boards and 3 assists.

The Cavaliers just couldn’t cope with the Warriors’ reserve unit which outscored their opponent’s bench 45-11.

Leandro Barbosa’s 11 pts and Andre Iguodala’s tough defense against the Lebron James were quite impressive.

Iguodala, last season’s NBA Finals MVP definitely picked up where he left off against the Cavaliers’ large forward. He made James do a number a mistakes and bad shots. He was able to also to contribute offensively with 12 pts with 7 boards and 6 assists. The size advantage of James on Iguodala is quite huge and its hard to believe how well the Warriors’ player is coping with it without drawing many fouls. A mix of experience and smart defending is key in his matchup to slow down James’ dominance in the game.

The Cavaliers only shot 33% from long range and 38% from the field but its really the cold streak of certain of their players that stepped up in the early series.

With the Warriors extremely difficult to beat at the Oracle Arena, the key games the Cavaliers should be focusing on winning are games 3 to 5. This could shift momentum in the series and keep them on pace for what could maybe be a 7 game series.

Stanley Cup Preview

NHL Hockey playoffs doesn’t get any bigger than this. Game 1 of this exciting Stanley Cup finals featuring the San Jose Sharks against the Pittsburgh Penguins will begin Monday at 8PM EST at the Consol Energy Center. This series has the potential to be an instant classic with the Penguins being a much different team than during the regular season and the Sharks ‘ red hot offense peaking at the best moment. Don’t miss out on this Fantasy NHL Hockey Stanley Cup Preview brought to you by Fanpicks, where you can win millions in cash prizes during the NHL Playoffs.

Fantasy NHL Hockey

Both of these teams have been playing at their best during those playoffs with players showcasing great talent and consistency. The regular season series is split with each tream winning a game apiece but not much history against one another.

For the Pens, it will be their first time back in the Finals in 7 years since winning the title in a 7 game nailbiting series against the Red Wings back in 2009. With only a few of the championship cast remaining such as Crosby, Malkin, Kunitz, Letang and goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury, Pittsburgh as an edge of experience compare to the Sharks. On top being there at the biggest stage, the Penguins speed is nothing like any other team San Jose has faced during the playoffs thus far. Many weapons the Pens possess in offense can hurt the Sharks if they don’t step it up physically. They’re led by Phil Kessel (18 pts) who has 6 goals in his last 9 playoffs games. It will be Sidney Crosby’s 3rd appearance in  the finals.

The Sharks will hope that Marc-Edouard Vlasic shuts continues his tremendous defensive work and shuts down as much of the Penguins’ top forwards. The Pens will definitely have a tougher time penetrating through the Sharks but as the series progress.

San Jose will be making its first ever appearance in a Stanley Cup Finals in franchise history. Only 2 players on their rosters have made it to the finals in their careers. Suprisingly, neither their veterans Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau have had the chance to make it to the cup.

They will rely on their cut throat offense that boasts a whopping average of 3.5 goals a game. 4 of the postseason top 5 scorers are Sharks players and their top 2 lines are nearly impossible to contain consistently.

This will be one of the most compelling and interesting Stanley Cup finals in recent years and we hope you’re as excited as we are for this series. Don’t forget to sign up for free and  BANK BIG this Stanley Cup with our Cross Sports and NHL Contests.

Fantasy NBA Playoffs

Western Conference Finals Preview

With many fans in the basketball world questioning Golden State Warriors’ title defense without their MVP Stephen Curry full form. However, most of these doubts have been put aside following their commanding route of the Trail Blazers last week in Curry’s heroic 40 pts comeback performance. But one of the main questions all year long was clearly on the capability of San Antonio or OKC’s depth to take on the Warriors in postseason. With the Thunder disposing of the Spurs, all those questions will be answered within the next 2 weeks. This Fantasy NBA Playoffs preview of the Western Conference finals is brought to you by FanPicks. Come play Fantasy Basketball during the NBA playoffs with tons of prizes up for grabs.

Fantasy NBA Playoffs

This will be only the 3rd time that OKC and Warriors meet in the playoffs but never in recent years. But this series is special and you could see it when both teams played back in February 27th in a game that can be referred as the game of the year.

The stakes are completely different now with the Thunder hungrier than ever and the Warriors absolutely wanting to defend their title after a record winning regular season.

Oklahoma has been showing some signs of growth and confidence that we haven’t seen since their 2011-2012 road to the finals before losing to the Heat. This is actually their 4th trip in 6 years to the Conference finals but only made it out to the finals that year.

Golden State swept the Thunder this season 3-0 and with a healthy Curry, it will be extremely difficult for them to upset the defending champions.

With all the last 3 MVPs and NBA scoring champions featuring in this series, all eyes will be set on them to outperform one another. The only difference is that this time, compare to the prior matchups, the Thunder will be having consistent help from Enes Kanter and Steven Adams. Their help in offensive rebounding and solid front court play gave them an edge on the Spurs.

With both of those players playing together 5 minutes against 66 during the semi finals, look out for them to put up some awesome Fantasy points on the board.

Of course the Warriors have Draymond Green and Klay Thompson that could do damage offensively from almost anywhere with Curry’s play making. Andre Iguodala will be a huge defensive piece of the defense puzzle to slow down Durant who averages 36.3 pts against Western Conference opponets.

Fantasy Basketball MVP

Stephen Curry

Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry became the first unanimous NBA fantasy basketball MVP (Most Valuable Player) on Tuesday, winning the prestigious award for a second straight season. Join FanPicks and play fantasy basketball for cash and prizes!! Click to join

Curry swept all 131 first-place votes, consisting of the 130 from a panel of sportswriters and broadcasters and one from the Kia MVP fan vote. San Antonio Spurs forward Kawhi Leonard turned second in the voting, followed by Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James.

A news conference announcing the award is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET on Tuesday in Oakland, California. The Warriors came back there after Monday’s Game 4 win in Portland, where Curry had accumulated 40 points, with 17 coming in overtime.

Curry was an overwhelming favorite to repeat as the league MVP since the Warriors’ record-setting 24-0 start to the season, breaking the previous record for best start to a season by nine wins. They’ve finished the season with a  73-9 mark that eclipsed the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls’ 72-10 record, as the most victorious single-season in NBA history.

Shaquille O’Neal and LeBron James both fell one vote shy of unanimous selection in 2000 and 2013, respectively. Curry joins Tom Brady (2010 NFL MVP) and Wayne Gretzky (1982 Hart Trophy winner) as the only unanimous MVP’s in their respective leagues. There have been 17 unanimous MVPs in MLB history, the latest being Bryce Harper as the NL MVP last season.

Curry is the first player in NBA history, at any position, to average 30 ‎points per game in less than 35 minutes per game over a full season. He also shattered his own single-season record for 3-pointers made with 402. His ‎previous record was 286 last year. The “Golden Boy” joins Steve Nash and his coach, Steve Kerr, as the only players in league history to shoot at least 50 percent from the floor, 45 percent from 3-point range and 90 percent from the line in a single-season.

The 28-year-old is the 11th player to win back-to-back fantasy basketball MVP awards in the NBA’s 70-years existence. James was the last to achieve this feat in 2012 and 2013.

Fantasy Playoffs Basketball Preview

The Raptors have been disappointing this 1st round of playoffs and come in this game pumped, hoping to snap their first round series losing streak. They’re on verge of getting knocked out for the 4th straight time in the first round of NBA playoffs basketball, and it would be such of shame after this record winning regular season and talented squad’s efforts. Unfortunately for the Raptors, their two top players DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry are struggling at the worst potential time. Even though they’ve received some extra surprising efforts from Bismack Biyombo who’s 8 or more boards per game in 4 straight contests could help their resurgence. Defense has been a key indicator in every wins in this series, as the winning team has always scored at least 100 Pts. The Raptors are favorite in this one statically speaking and on paper, however we’ve seen them have ridiculous issues in previous Game 7 matchups.

Indiana has really surprised everyone and rocked the odds in this series. They took care of business on home court and have been playing exceptionally well in defense. A matter fact, they were able to hold Toronto to only 37% shooting from the field and a mere 39 pts in last game’s 2nd half. All of their starters were in double digit scoring figures in their win. Paul George’s playoff comeback has been very effective and his peers Monta Ellis, Myles Turner and George Hill have all stepped up in their nothing to lose approach to the game.

Stephen Curry Injury Update

With the news that Stephen Curry has a sprained MCL and will be reevaluated in two weeks, this will likely shake up many predictions, assumptions and outcome of this year’s NBA Playoffs. Our writers at FanPicks put this article together to have more insights and implications on the Stephen Curry Injury Update situation.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AzhcPmGfPZo

Earlier today, the news broke out after Stephen Curry’s MRI that he would be unavailable for the next 2 weeks on the court. This is not a small story. Actually, it’s quite a shocker while Warriors’ fans and many NBA playoffs viewers would’ve loved to see him go 100% as the Warriors continue their march towards history.

Curry the league’s current MVP and best player is a victim of those ill-timed injuries that other top players like Derrick Rose, Russell Westbrook, Kevin Garnett, Kyrie Irving and dozens of other huge names whose injuries clearly titled championship odds of their teams.

If this injury is prolonged, he will likely be less than a 100% on his return and facing teams like the Thunder or the Spurs will put their championship odds in serious jeopardy.

Many people may blame their physical fatigue in their quest to 73 regular season wins but in other circumstances, good for them and good call from Steve Kerr to rest his players for the playoffs like Gregg Popovich.

In this situation, sadly, injury prevention was actually not able to play a factor in this scary slip. A matter fact, it was surprising how so many people around the league, fans and his own players obviously, worried about Curry’s health.

No one wanted and wished to see this but this is what high level competition is about. The adversity and relentlessness of the Warriors will be tested from now on and Draymond Green will have to carry the team with some help from Klay Thompson and the solid Warriors’ core.

MLB Fantasy Baseball
The Giants’ other 2 big additions pitched yesterday to help their 3 game losing streak. Their center fielder Denard Span wast 1 of 4 and Johnny Cueto put in some work in the 8th inning in the 4-3 victory. Their reliever Sergio Romo is injured and won’t be available for the next several weeks while the Giants GM splits the current setup between Hunter Strickland and Josh Osich. L.A managed only 5 hits during Saturday’s loss. Adrian Gonzalez will be a solid source of power for the future.

Samardzija got his 1st win as a Giants on Tuesday when he allowed 2 over 8 innings in a 7-2 win against the Rockies. Chase Utley is 6 for 15 with an HR against the 2014 NL All-Star. He has a 1-2 record with a 4.91 ERA in 4 games against the Dodgers.

Maeda turned in his 2nd strong outing Tuesday by holding Arizona scoreless in 6 innings of play with only allowing 5 hits and striking out 4. Maeda still holds the longest streak in Dodgers’ history to begin a career with his 12 consecutive scoreless innings is the 4th longest in history to begin a career.

Fantasy Baseball MLB Preview

Baltimore Orioles vs Texas Rangers

The Baltimore Orioles are going to attempt to continue their outstanding start of the season when they face the Texas Rangers in their 4 game series Saturday night. The highlight of this game will clearly be around the performance of ex Ranger pitcher, Yovani Gallardo. This Fantasy Baseball MLB Preview is brought you by FanPicks. Come play in our MLB Fantasy contests where you can win up to a $1 million this week at FanPicks.

Fantasy Baseball MLB Preview

Yovani Gallardo finished with a 13-11 record with the Rangers last season before signing a huge $22 million dollar contract with Baltimore. The 30 year old Mexican enjoyed quite some success in Arlington, winning 8 of his 14 decisions last year that helped the Rangers into a playoff berth. He’s in 1-0 this year with his new team and was lucky earlier this week with a no decision when he allowed 5 runs and 7 hits in just 5 innings against the Red Sox.

But the Orioles have some serious offensive firepower and it was quite obvious last night when Mark Trumbo, their new off season acquisition went deep twice as he increased his home run total this season to already 5 in his last 5 games 11 RBI on top. Their second baseman Jonathan Schoop also went deep twice last night and has a hit in every game this season but one.

The pitcher for tonight for the Rangers will be Colby Lewis. He picked up his 1st win of the regular season this Monday when he only allowed a run and 4 hits in 6 innings during their 7-3 victory against the Mariners. He also managed to beat the Orioles last time they met but has a 2-4 record overall against them. Their rookie Nomar Mazara is 9 for 23 this season with 4 RBI in 6 contests, while center fielder, Deline DeShields has one homer and is 8 for 17. He has 4 runs scored in his last 4 games.

New York Mets vs Kansas City Royals

MLB Baseball Fantasy Preview

Edinson Volquez will be the starter for the Royals as they defend World Series championship at the expense of the same New York Mets.

He had a 13-9 record with a 3.55 ERA the past campaign. During the World Series, he actually started the first game and in Game 5 against the Mets. He didn’t earn the wins as the bullpen of the Royals really helped. He was 8-4 on home starts with a .348 ERA.

Greg Holland’s loss as a reliever to the Royals will be compensated by the addition of Joakim Soria. Soria had 24 saves with a 2.53 ERA for the Pirates last year.

Speaking of the Royals’ relievers, the unit is minus Greg Holland, who is now a free agent. That said, the addition of Joakim Soria should soften the blow of Holland’s loss. Soria had 24 saves and a 2.53 ERA for Pittsburgh last season.

Kansas City will be hoping that their offense remains productive on offense. They may lack in power but for some reason, they’ve been mastering in putting the balls in play. They showed it especially against the Mets during the World Series. They were 2nd last in The AL with only 139 runs but 2nd in the major for batting average with runners in scoring position explaining their success.

Matt Harvey will be the starter for the New York Mets this Opening Day.

The Mets have questionably the best rotation in the MLB. Harvey was 13-8 with a 2.71 ERA last season. He made 4 playoffs appearance last year and went 2-0 with a 3.04 ERA. Harvey has a 5-5 record on 12 road starts last year with a 3.42 ERA.

For their offensive weapons, the Mets can count on the bats of Yoenis Cespedes, David Wright and Curtis Granderson. Cespedes arrived during the middle of the season in New York after a trade and literally transformed the Mets’ offense into a feared one. His 17 home runs in 57 games were quite impressive. He was very calm in the World Series going 3 for 17 only.
