Chicago Bulls vs Utah Jazz

The 113-88 win over the Portland Trail Blazers marked a third straight win for Chicago and is a strong way to kick off a six-game road trip. The Bulls will work to keep that offense humming when they face one of the best defensive teams in the league at the Utah Jazz on Thursday (Enter Contest). The teams split two meetings last season, with each team winning on its own home court.

Defense was Chicago’s biggest issue during a stretch of four losses in five games to open November, but the Bulls held their last three opponents under 100 points and limited the Trail Blazers to 35.8 percent from the floor (and 9-of-34 from 3-point range) on Tuesday. Chicago outrebounded Portland 67-49 and scored 52 points in the paint as all five starters scored in double figures. It will be more difficult to control the glass against the Jazz, who have Derrick Favors and Rudy Gobert up front with Trey Lyles coming off the bench. Favors and Gobert are both trying to bounce back from sub-par efforts after combining for 12 points, seven rebounds and one block in a 102-96 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday.

ABOUT THE BULLS (7-4)

Chicago brought in Dwyane Wade and Rajon Rondo in the offseason, and the veteran presence is bringing a new level out of swingman Jimmy Butler. The 27-year-old scored 20 or more points in each of the last two games and led the way with 27 points, 12 rebounds and five assists on Tuesday. Rondo sat out Tuesday after suffering an ankle injury in Monday’s practice and is day-to-day.

ABOUT THE JAZZ (7-5)

Favors left Monday’s game in the fourth quarter with left knee soreness and did not return, and Gobert watched most of the fourth quarter from the bench as well. Favors will continue to be monitored carefully due to the recurring pain in his knee but the team is not yet planning to sit him for an extended period. Guards Rodney Hood (illness) and George Hill (thumb) sat out Monday and are both day-to-day.

NBA Daily Fantasy Basketball – Utah Jazz vs Los Angeles Lakers

Dominate your competition with our NBA Daily Fantasy Basketball, create the winning lineup at Fanpicks.com. The Utah Jazz (40-41) take on the host Los Angeles Lakers (16-65) at Staples Center. Fantasy Basketball
Utah comes into this game tied for the eight-seed in the western conference, but their faith will be out of their hands. The Houston Rockets are holding the eight-spot as well, but have the crucial tiebreaker over the Jazz. The Jazz have actually lost three of their past four headed into this game and that’s not the type of thing you can do in the midst of a playoff hunt. The offense has really hurt this club, as they rank 28th in both scoring and assists per contests.

Although the Lakers are having one of their worst seasons in franchise history, this trivial game will be one of the most important ones in years for Los Angeles fans. This is the last game of Kobe Bryant’s career and the energy in the Staples Center should be out of control. That alone should make this a exceptional game, as the Lakers will have plenty of motivation in what would normally be a throw-in-the-towel match-up.

With that in mind, the Jazz should still be a sizable favorite, as their post-season lives are on the line and the Lakers are still leaving empty-handed after this.

Fantasy NBA Basketball predictions

The Clippers are lucky right now with no reason to play their top players and able to rest them. With the Utah Jazz needing a win and on the brink of elimination, they will take full advantage of this factor. It really couldn’t have come at a better time for them as they have everything to play in this game. They’re standing only 1 game behind the 7th and 1 game ahead of the 9th seed in the tough Western Conference. Not only they’ve been playing well but the chemistry seems to have been clicking more than ever. The Jazz have only lost 3 games in their last 13 matchups. Their defense really helped them to get this far since they still rank 2nd in points allowed. The Jazz are an easy favorite in this one at home.

The Clippers come into this game having won 7 of their last 8t and have little to play. They’re currently 4th west and can’t move up nor down. What’s really impressive with them is that they’re one of the few teams who actually rank in the NBA’s top 10 offense and defense simultaneously. This really allows them to rest some of their top players for the playoffs. In fact, it looks like Blake Griffin, Chris Paul, DeAndre Jordan and J.J. Redick will all sit out tonight with this game being logically meaningless to them.

DFS NBA Value Picks

Fanpicks is proud to bring you another edition of our DFS NBA value picks. We will supply you with three fantasy options who in our opinion, bring you greater value than their cap hit suggests.

Let’s take a look at our players today.

Value Picks

SG Wesley Matthews (DAL) – Since Chandler Parsons was lost for the season, Wesley Matthews has become a much bigger part of the Mavericks offense.  He has averaged 27.56 fantasy points over his last five games while dropping 26 points on Friday, including six 3-pointers. He’s still priced at $4900, so take advantage of the great value while it lasts.

SG Rodney Hood  (UTA) – While inconsistent (four of last 10 games under 20 fantasy points), Hood has posted 35.6 and 24.8 fantasy points in his last two games (respectively). Obviously the Warriors aren’t the best matchup, but you can gamble on the hot streak if you like Hood tonight.

PF Derrick Favors (UTA) – Favors is the more expensive option amongst Jazz players, but the power forward has been ripping it up over his last 10 games. His projected 34 fantasy points put him on par with the likes of star point guard Kyle Lowry who is due $1000 more ($8200).

Utah Jazz vs Brooklyn Nets – 01/22/16 Preview

The Utah Jazz (18-24) look to establish some consistency on Friday night when they travel to Barclays Center to take on the hapless Brooklyn Nets (11-32). The Jazz are the odd favorites to win (line: -5.5). Here is the projected lineup:

Projected Lineup
Starting Lineup

After their loss to the New York Knicks this past Wednesday, the Jazz are now back in 9th place of the wide open Western Conference. The Knicks had the best of the Jazz in OT with a 118-111.  Rodney Hood made 5 of 10 three pointers. Gordon Hayward led the Jazz that night with a solid tally of 29 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists while Trey Lyles finished the night with 13 points. Utah has struggled to find consistency this campaign, ranking 25th overall in offence.

The Nets have lost 9 of the last 10 games, the latest at home this past Wednesday night to the Cavaliers, 91-78. The Cavs were coming back from an embarrassing home loss to the Golden State earlier in the week on MLK day and were on fire, despite a solid 16 pts, 10 rebound double-double from Brook Lopez. Thaddeus Young added 14 points while Donald Sloan 12 points. Brooklyn is second last in the league in 3 pts shooting percentage, averaging only 31.8%.

Starting Lineup

The Kings have been playing some of the best basketball of the season as of late, but are coming into this game with a disastrous road record. They are now 5-12 on the road and are playing in one of the toughest venues in Utah on Thursday. Sacramento is coming off a bad loss on Wednesday as well, as they lost to a New Orleans Pelicans team that has struggled mightily all year. In fact, the Kings were seven-point favorites in that game and once again lets fans down with another poor performance. DeMarcus Cousins continued his recent ridiculous play in that game, as he tallied 32 points and 12 rebounds in the loss. He is now the leading scorer in the new year and is making a bid for the All-Star team.

Utah comes into this game winning two of their last three and that directly correlates with the return of Rudy Gobert. The Frenchmen is one of the best defenders in the NBA and that’s clearly evident through the teams stats. The Jazz rank as a top-three defense with him in the lineup and barely top-10 with him out of it. Since his return, they are allowing about 90 points a game and once again stifling teams. The problem is the offense though, as they still rank 27th in scoring. Another major issue is the ball distribution, as the team ranks dead-last in assists with no legitimate point guard on the roster. This should be a good opportunity for this offense to get on track though, as the Kings sport one of the worst defenses in the league. Utah comes into this game as a five-point favored.

Miami Heat vs. Utah Jazz

The Miami Heat (22-14) will take on the Utah Jazz (15-20) at Vivint Smart Home Arena in Salt Lake City, UT on Saturday. Fanpicks.com is proud to announce its RotoPicker free to use tool, which allows you to create winning line ups and dominate your fantasy basketball competition.  Play the most exciting contest, including the newest $25K Grand Action and Point Spread contests only at Fanpicks.com the premiere daily fantasy basketball

Starting LineupThe Heat come into this matchup winning four of their last five and winning with some stellar defense. They now rank in the top-three in numerous defensive statistics and they should have no problem slowing down this terrible Jazz offense. The one concern is that this is the second half of a back-to-back and many of these Miami veterans struggle in those circumstances. In that game, they ended up beating the Phoenix Suns with some big plays down the stretch. That was a revenge game for Goran Dragic and he had one of his best games of the season, tallying 22 points and seven assists. The paces of the Jazz and Heat should make this one of the slowest games of the season thus far.

The Jazz have lost three-straight and they just can’t seem to stay healthy. They have been without Derrick Favors, Rudy Gobert and Alec Burks for some time now and right when Gobert returned, another top-scorer went down. Rodney Hood went down with an ankle injury in their most recent game and he’s been one of their best scorers as of late. The good news is that Gobert came off the bench in that same game against the Houston Rockets after missing over a month of action. With Favors due back soon as well, things may be finally turning around for this injury riddled team. Even with all the injuries, the team has still been hovering around .500 and playing some great defense. Once Gobert and Favors are back, this team will go back to one of the three-best defensive teams in the NBA. Look for this to be a close and low-scoring game, as the Heat come in as ashort favorite with a projected minuscule total of 185.

Utah Jazz vs. Houston Rockets

The Utah Jazz (15-19) will be hosted by the Houston Rockets (17-19) on Thursday evening. Fanpicks.com is proud to announce its RotoPicker free to use tool, which allows you to create winning line ups and dominate your fantasy basketball competition.  Play the most exciting contest, including the newest $10K Grand Action and Point Spread contests only at Fanpicks.com the premiere daily fantasy basketball site

Fantasy basketball The Jazz have won two of their last three games, but that’s not indicative of their form. Since injuries to Derrick Favors, Alec Burks and Rudy Gobert, the team has really struggled. The bigger worry is on the defensive end, as they have regressed a lot since the injury bug bit them a few weeks back. Their most recent game was a nightmare in which they lost to the San Antonio Spurs, while allowing 122 points on over 60 percent shooting. The one bright spot in that loss is that the starters got to sit in the fourth quarter and rest for this back-to-back. In the first game against Houston, the Jazz lost a nail biter 93-91 and had some poor late game execution.

The Rockets have lost four of their last five coming into this and the defense has been horrendous. They now rank 26th in points allowed and have regularly been allowing 110-plus as of late. It’s hard to put a finger on why the team is so bad defensively with players like Patrick Beverley, Trevor Ariza and Dwight Howard, but they need to do a better job of stopping transition baskets. The resurgence of Howard is a promising sign though, as he is averaging 22.3 points and 13.5 rebounds over his last four games. With Howard playing like this and James Harden putting up the gaudy numbers he is right now, it’s hard to see much improvement with this team unless they fix something on the other end of the floor. With all that said, the Rockets have a good chance to win here as nine-point favorites in this matchup.

Utah Jazz vs. San Antonio Spurs

The Utah Jazz (15-18) will be hosted by the San Antonio Spurs  (30-6) at the AT&T Center in Minneapolis on Wednesday evening. Fantasy BasketballThe Jazz are coming off a heartbreaking defeat to the Rockets on Monday night by a score of 93-91. The Jazz were up by 15 points at one point midway through the third quarter, but weren’t able to overcome a James Harden led comeback by the Rockets. Rodney Hood led the team in scoring with 23 points (6-9 FG, 5-6 3Pt, 6-8 FT), seven assists, one rebound and a steal in 35 minutes. Gordon Hayward added 20 points (7-18 FG, 3-6 3Pt, 3-3 FT), seven rebounds, three assists, three steals, and a block in 36 minutes. Derrick Favors missed his sixth straight game on Monday and his status for remains unclear. The Jazz waived Elijah Millsap on Tuesday, two days before the swingman’s contract became guaranteed. The Jazz haven’t won a road-game in six weeks, even worse, they haven’t won in San Antonio in almost six years.

The Spurs have a chance to win their 30th straight regular-season home-game on Wednesday night. They are firing on all cylinders lately, having rattled off five straight wins, their most recent coming on Monday, defeating the Bucks 123-98. Kawhi Leonard once again led the team with 24 points (9-12 FG, 3-5 3Pt, 3-3 FT), two rebounds, two steals, an assist and block in 31 minutes. Timmy Duncan added 14 points (7-12 FG, 0-1 FT), 10 rebounds, four assists, two steals, and a block in 27 minutes. Tony Parker has been ruled out of Wednesday’s game as he continues to nurse a sore right hip which kept him out of Monday’s win. At 20-0 mark at home this season, the Spurs have won by an average of 16.4 points per game.
