Lefty leads a great golf lineup for the Waste Management Phoenix Open
The Waste Management Phoenix Open golf tournament is set for Jan. 31-Feb. 3 at TPC Scottsdale in Scottsdale, Ariz. That means it’s time to pick your optimal FanPicks fantasy golf lineup. Fortunately, our fantasy golf experts are ready to help.
Here’s what our best Waste Management Phoenix Open 2019 lineup looks like:
Phil Mickelson ($6,800)
Lefty’s more at home in the desert than a herd of camels. He’s won in Phoenix three times and is the tournament’s all-time leading money winner. He was last seen opening with a 60 on his way to a T2 at the Desert Classic. Plus, there’s the fact that the year’s biggest galleries will make Phil the object of their affections.
Matt Kuchar ($6,700)
A two-time winner already this season, Kooch cruised at the Sony in his last outing, shooting no worse than 66 en route to a drama-free four-shot win. Finished T5 here last year, in keeping with his recent profile in Scottsdale — a scoring average of 68.75 since 2009.
Chez Reavie ($6,300)
Another local hero — like Lefty, he played his college golf at Arizona State — Reavie finally found something in Scottsdale last year after a decade of futility, going 68-65-67-66 and losing in a playoff to Gary Woodland. An unblemished seven-for-seven in cuts made this season.
Byeong Hun An ($6,300)
This bomber should be cleared for takeoff at TPC Scottsdale, where he finished solo sixth in 2017 and T23 last year. Coming off a solid 12th last week in Dubai.
Martin Laird ($5,700)
We’re going heavy on local knowledge this week, and Scottsdale resident Laird fits that profile. Something about TPC Scottsdale fits his slow-and-steady game — he has four top 10s here since 2011.
Steve Stricker ($5,000)
When you’re looking for bargain basement roster fillers, you could do a lot worse than the likely 2020 U.S. Ryder Cup captain. He rarely misses cuts, and he still likes to prove he can hang with the kids.
