Detroit Red Wings vs Buffalo Sabres – 01/22/16 Preview
The Detroit Red Wings (23-15-8) are flying in Buffalo Sabres (19-24-4) territory tonight. Here is the projected lineup:
Brad Richards will not be available to play since he will be attending his grandfather’s funeral and is expected to be back against the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday at Joe Louis Arena. Brendan Smith didn’t practice Thursday but is expected to play Friday. Tomas Tatar, is also likely to play against the Sabres even though he was a late scratch for Wednesday due to illness. Petr Mrazek will have the start in goal.
The Sabres had a day off after losing to the Avalanche 2-1 on Wednesday. Sam Reinhart sustained an upper-body injury in the 2nd period last game in Colorado after colliding with Avalanche’s forward John Mitchell. Defenseman Josh Gorges, who missed 2 games with an upper-body injury, returned against the Avalanche and skated with Mark Pysyk; Jake McCabe and Carlo Colaiacovo are scratched.

The Bobcats are the 93rd ranked scoring offense from college football as they put up just 25.5 points a game on the season.
Bowling Green is 6-2 on the year. Their losses came on the road to Tennessee by 29 points in their opener and in week three they lose 44-41 to the undefeated Memphis Tigers. The Falcons carries a five game win streak in this spot which includes a 35-28 road win at Purdue. They too are on a bye week. Two weeks ago Bowling Green defeated Kent St 48-0. The Falcons have averaged 56 points per game over their past three games all resulting in blowout victories. The club is the top passing team from college football as they pass for 434 yards per game.
Ohio Bobcats QB:
The senior quarterback is completing 63.6% of his throws for 1652 yard with nine touchdowns and six picks. He has not run much this year with 56 carries for 16 yards. Two weeks ago in the loss at Buffalo Vick hit on 62% of his throws for 321 yards with no touchdowns and three picks.
Ohio Bobcats RB:
Patterson leads the Bobcats with 78 rushing attempts for 335 yards and seven touchdowns. He is running for 4.3 yards a carry. There has not been much production in the passing game for the senior running back as he has grabbed 14 balls for 43 yards.
Just a sophomore, Ouellette has run for 269 yards on 65 carries and two touchdowns. He rushes for 4.1 yards a carry which is well below the 4.9 yards a carry during his freshman campaign.
Ohio Bobcats WR:
Smith leads the unit with 41 receptions for 501 yards and five touchdowns. He is averaging 12.2 yards per catch on the year. The junior wide receiver had nine receptions for 79 yards at Buffalo two weeks ago in defeat.
The junior wide receiver is second on the Bulls with 24 catches for 367 yards and two touchdowns. He has a very good 15.3 yards per reception average. Cope caught seven passes for 52 yards last week at the Bulls.
Bowling Green Falcons QB:
The Falcons signal caller has been very accurate this year hitting on 70.1% of his throws for 3321yards with 29 touchdowns and three picks. He came off a huge game two weeks ago in the win at Kent St as the senior quarterback completed 67% of his passes for 430 yards with five touchdowns. He has thrown for five touchdowns in his past three games all resulting in wins. In the home loss to undefeated Memphis Johnson passed for 443 yards and four touchdowns. Matt Johnson has contributed in the run game with 152 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 74 carries.
Bowling Green Falcons RB:
Greene leads the Falcons on the ground with 112 carries for 590 yards and four touchdowns. He is rushing for 5.3 yards a carry. The senior running back has caught 18 passes out of the backfield on the campaign for 155 yards with two touchdowns.
Bowling Green Falcons WR:
The Bowling Green sophomore running back leads the time by a wide margin with 58 receptions on the year for 1122 yards with 11 touchdowns. Lewis is averaging a career high 19.3 yards per reception average. In the win at Kent St it was Roger Lewis catching four balls for 102 yards and two touchdowns and he averaged 25.5 yards per catch.

The D-Backs are pushing the Nationals away from a playoff spot. The former leaders of the National League division are now 2 games behind the Mets for top position. C Wellington Castillo had a 3-run HR, his 13th of the season, to put it away for Arizona. 1B Paul Goldschmidt went 3-for-5 and 1 walk at the plate. He also stole base twice in this game, raising his total to 19 this year. ‘’Goldy’’ has 22 HR this season, and if he keep pace till the end of the season, he could become the 39th player in the 30-30 club (30 HR + 30 SB). Arizona (52-54) won 11-4 over Washington (55-51).
P Steven Wright (5-4) silenced the Yankees bats and earned the win in series finale. He went 8 inning, giving up 1 ER, 4 hits and 2 walks while striking out 9. The knuckleballer outdueled 21 years-old rookie phenom, Luis Severino, who made his first career start. Boston (48-60) won 2-1 over New York (60-46), putting an end to their 8 game losing streak on the road.
Mets won their 6th in a row and hold the top spot in their division. P Matt Harvey (10-7) went 7 scoreless innings while allowing 2 hits. Even when New York were up by 8, relief almost blew it, giving up 6 runs in the 9th. But that’s all the drama we would get, as the Mets (58-50) came out with the victory over the Marlins (43-65) by a final score of 8-6.
It was humid last night in Turner Field ; that’s because P Madison Bumgarner (12-6) was turning up the heat. He allowed 1 ER and no walks while giving out 9 K’s in 7 1/3 innings of work. The Giants offense gave him well enough to earn the win. The 6-foot-5 pitcher won 4 of his last 5 start. San Francisco (59-48) are pushing for a playoffs spot and this 6-1 win over the braves (48-60) definitly helps.
The future is bright in Milwakee with rookie P Taylor Jungmann (6-3). In 7 innings pitched, he gave up 2 ER and 6 hits and managing 8 K’s for the win. The 25 years-old has surrendered 2 or less runs in 10 of his first 11 start this season. The Brewers (46-53) won 8-5 over the Padres (52-56).
