The Heat delivered another blow to the Chicago Bulls’ playoffs hopes on Thursday night and, in doing so, bolstered their own in a 106-98 home win. All five starters for the club posted double digits in the victory, with Dwayne Wade leading the group with 21 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists, shooting 9 of 18 from the paint. Goran Dragic scored a double-double with 16 points and 12 boards, going 7 of 16 from the paint. Dragic is putting up an average of 13.9 points and 5.9 dimes for the team this year, suiting up for 67 games and leading the club in assists. Hassan Whiteside came off the reserves for his 39th double-double of the season on the strength of a 16-point, 12-rebound outing as Miami stand in fifth place in the Eastern Conference, just a half game behind the third place Hawks.

The Magic have lost two of their last three games, with their latest defeat coming on Wednesday night to the visiting Detroit Pistons, 108-104. Evan Fournier topped the squad in scoring with 19 points, hitting all five of his shot attempts from the foul line but had difficulty from beyond the arc, where he finished 0 for 5. Elfrid Payton contributed with 17 points and 5 assists, forcing 3 turnovers and shooting 8 of 13 from the court, while Nikola Vucevic came out from the bench to collect the double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds, going 7 of 14 from field goal range. Vucevic, who remains Orlando’s top offensive contributor despite being absent for the majority of the month of March with a groin injury, is averaging 18 points and 9 rebounds for the team through 62 games played, edging the unit in blocks with 1.1 per outing. Andrew Nicholson had 14 points, 5 rebounds and a pair of threes as the Magic remain in 11th place in the East, with their follow-up game coming versus Miami on the road on Sunday.

Basketball fantasy picks – 03/04/16

There’s eleven NBA games pick from Friday. A nice brass of elite value picks will be available, with the likes of LeBron James, John Wall and Paul George. But the question is will they deliver the merchandise. This is your basketball fantasy picks, presented by FanPicks RotoPicker.

  • Kyrie Irving ($5,600)

Irving is averaging a career low 4.3 assists per game, this season. But after posting back-to-back 6 assists games and scoring at least 22 points in each one of them, it’s hard not to believe he won’t have a solid game against a questionable Wizard defense. He’s also 19-for-19 in free-throws, in the past three games

  • Khris Middleton ($5,800)

Middleton has now scored at least 21 points in four straight games, and has hit the 20-point mark 27 times in 2015-16. The fourth-year wing is averaging career highs in points, assists, and threes.

  • Dwayne Wade ($5,800)

Wade scored 24.6 points per game in the last 6 contest. He will continue to be a phenomenal fantasy option, as long as you don’t mind his old age.

  • LeBron James ($7,300)

Last Sunday, the Wizard took advantage of a LeBron-less Cavaliers team, winning 113 to 99. It will be a different story on Friday night with James in the lineup, especially after a three days’ rest. He

  • Giannis Antetokounmpo ($6,200)

Antetokounmpo has averaged 7.8 assists in the Bucks’ past five games, with coach and former point guard Jason Kidd giving the 21-year-old much of the ballhandling duties. Still, he remains a scoring threat and a force on the boards, averaging 17.9 points and 11.3 rebounds in his last eight.

  • Aaron Gordon ($4,800)

Gordon has been a consistent two-category (rebounds & points) source of production, and he doesn’t appear to be in danger of losing minutes to teammate Ersan Ilyasova.

  • Nikola Vucevic ($6,300)

While his defensive limitations have been well-documented, Vucevic’s offensive prowess can’t be denied. Vucevic is now averaging 23.3 points over his last six games, while shooting over 50 percent from the field in that span. Vucevic should be a prime DFS target on Friday, when he’ll take on the defensively-challenged Suns.

  • Jabari Parker ($5,000)

In 2014, Parker was pegged as a likely fantasy/reality Rookie of the Year. Injuries delayed Parker’s full arrival…by a season and a half. He may not have won Rookie of the Year, but Parker is making a staggering late push for Most Improved Player.

  • Mario Hezonja ($3,200)

“Super Mario” enjoyed his finest career performance in Wednesday’s victory, hitting multiple three’s for just the second time since Feb. 10. Receiving limited minutes, Hezonja has posted a pedestrian 33.6 percentage from beyond the arc this season.

In Case You Missed It

Cross-Sport Super Bowl Challenge

In case you missed it, offered up the only Daily Fantasy Sports Cross-Sport Super Bowl Challenge. That’s right! The only Fantasy Football Super Bowl contest on the web! In order to compete in Daily Fantasy Sports, the contest must include at least three events, therefore – toss in a little NBA action and you have yourselves a Super Sunday! What could be more exciting than cheering for Cam Newton to throw a TD and Jeff Teague to drain a three?

As proud parents of this revolutionary Daily Fantasy game, held their own 30-player contest. As our Sports Insider and DFS Expert I felt the extra pressure to perform. It wasn’t just their Super Bowl…It was mine too! Thankfully I was more like Peyton than Cam even though I chose Newton…and won my game! Let’s take a look at my lineup below to see what approach I took to win a Cross-Sport Contest…(by 10 points)

  • My Roster

With the Panthers and Broncos both being defensive juggernauts, I knew I had to get my big points from the NBA, and depth players weren’t going to get the job done in the Super Bowl. I had to get big performances from second and third tier players on the court and just keep my head above water on the gridiron.

I was tempted to take Peyton ($5900) at that discount compared to Newton, but I just thought even if stifled, Cam has more plays in his legs than Peyton. If they were both to be shut down at least Newton’s youth and athleticism could allow him to get garbage stats. That’s not usually the case with Manning. That decision paid off at the top of the lineup.

Emmanuel Sanders was the easiest choice for me. Demaryius Thomas has been cold for a while now, and a matchup with Josh Norman and the lack of deep ball ability from Manning meant Thomas would struggle again. Sanders’ short to intermediate ability at finding holes in the defense was tailor-made for Manning at this stage.

Teddy Ginn is the only Panthers WR capable of making a big play, so taking him over the sure-handed Greg Olsen at TE was my investment decision regarding the Panthers receiving core.

The gambles on Funchess and Green were worth their price tag compared to a more expensive say Corey Brown who could’ve easily done nothing just as easily, and doesn’t have a big ceiling either.

On the court…

Kristaps Porzingis was an obvious choice. His multi-category beastliness at $6200 was a must-have in a game where I needed contributions anywhere I could get it.

Amid trade rumours Jeff Teague was due for a big game. He’s been rolling and at only $5700 his big-game ability was right on the money for me.

Orlando’s Nikola Vucevic was my biggest ticket at $7100, but he was in a prime position for major playing time, and again, a multi-category threat.

Charlotte Hornets vs Orlando Magic – 01/22/16 Preview

The Charlotte Hornets (19-23) will travel to Orlando on Friday to battle the strugglingMagic (20-21). The Magic are the odds favorites to win (line: -3.5). Here is the projected lineup for tonight:

Projected Lineup

Starting Lineup

The Hornets are coming off a 109-95 loss on the road to the Oklahoma City Thunder this Wednesday and now having lost 10 of their last 12 games. They’re not looking like the promising young team from November that was 10-5. Red hot Kemba Walker was the leading scorer for Charlotte in the contest with a 21 pts contribution. Walker is averaging 19.9 points this season and his stats are beneficiating from the numerous games missed to injury and suspension of Al Jefferson. Jeremy Lin recorded 16 pts off the bench while Frank Kaminsky III put up 15 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists in the defeat. Charlotte remains in last place of their division and will return at home to take on the Knicks Saturday before heading on a 4 game road trip next week in the West.

The Magic’s struggle continues and worsens week by week. Seen as a playoff favorite back in the fall, things seem to be getting worst for Orlando with its recent loss to the 76ers, 96-87 on Wednesday, the worst team in the NBA, 96-87. Elfrid Payton (21 pts, 10 rebounds), Nikola Vucevic (15 pts, 11 assists) and Tobias Harris (15 pts, 10 rebounds) all posted double-doubles in the defeat. The team shot only 39.3% from the field and 23.5% from long range. Star player Victor Oladipo missed his 2nd straight game and is questionable for Friday due to a knee injury. Orlando is 12-10 on the road.

NBA TORvsORL 1-14-16The Raptors conclude their five-game road trip on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean on Wednesday afternoon, UK time, after finishing 3-1 on the North American leg of the tour. The team made quick work of the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday night, 108-95, to improve their winning streak to three games and hold onto a solid grasp of first place in the Atlantic Division, where they are 4.5 games clear of the second place New York Knicks. Kyle Lowry lead Toronto with 25 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists in the victory, shooting 10 of 17 from the field. DeMar DeRozan added 19 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists while Jonas Valanciunas added 17 points and 9 boards to move the team into second place overall in the East. The Raptors’ potent defense was on display again in their win over Philly, as they are allowing 96.7 points per contest, ranking fourth-best in the league.

The Magic, themselves with designs on a Playoff run this season, have struggled to kick off 2016, losing five of their last six outings. So far in January, the team has already matched their loss total for the entire month of December, when they went 10-5. Orlando’s latest defeat came on Saturday night at home to the Washington Wizards, 105-99, despite all five of their starters posting double digits. Nikola Vucevic scored 23 points and added 9 rebounds to serve as the top producer for the team, while Aaron Gordon posted a double-double off the bench with 10 points and 10 boards. Vucevic has been the top weapon for the team throughout the season, leading the upstart unit with 17.1 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. The Magic will have the weekend to recoup before traveling to Atlanta on Monday to face the division-leading Atlanta Hawks.

Indiana Pacers vs. Orlando Magic

Fantasy basketballLosers of three of their last four games, the Pacers look to amend their struggles against another slipping Eastern Conference club in the Magic on Wednesday. This after falling in overtime at the Miami Heat on Monday night, 103-100. The team squandered an 18-point lead in the loss, one that saw Paul George lead Indiana in scoring with 32 points. George also made 5 of 8 shots from beyond the arc, accounting for more than half of the team’s eight triples in the game. Monta Ellis added 17 points as the Pacers are now 2.5 games behind the second-place Chicago Bulls in the Central Division. Indiana have bested Orlando in nine of their last ten meetings.

After a 10-5 December, the Magic find themselves winless in 2016, with an 0-3 record so far this month. All losses have come on the road, the most recent a Monday night blowout at the hands of the Detroit Pistons, 115-89. Victor Oladipo started for the team and led in scoring with 18 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Nikola Vucevic went 8-for-15 from the paint for his 16 points, but it was the lack of contribution from their teammates that ultimately doomed Orlando. In 26 minutes played, Evan Fournier scored no points, going 0-for-6 from the field and 0-for-4 from long range. The Magic fare better at home, where they are 12-6, and host five of their next seven games.
