Preview: Clippers at Grizzlies

An overtime loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Nov. 23 began a stretch of four setbacks in five games for the Memphis Grizzlies. Host Memphis will attempt to dig out of its slide when it clashes against the Clippers again on Wednesday.

The Grizzlies were off to a strong 12-5 start before the recent funk but point guard Mike Conley insists there is no need to be troubled. “We’re not in panic mode at all,” Conley said after Sunday’s 103-95 road loss to the Philadelphia 76ers. “We’ve built ourselves a good little cushion to have a little spell like this. Hopefully, we’ll just get back home, get back to work, get a few days in and get back together.” The Clippers are flying high with 12 wins in their past 15 games and they posted a 129-126 road triumph over the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday to retain a share of the Western Conference lead with the Denver Nuggets. “We’ve had a bunch of close games,” backup guard Lou Williams told reporters after the win. “If you’re going to compete in the Western Conference – there’s a lot of talented teams – you’re going to have to be able to (win those).”

TV: 8 p.m. ET, Prime Ticket (Los Angeles), FS Southeast (Memphis)

ABOUT THE CLIPPERS (16-7): Forward Tobias Harris was named Western Conference Player of the Month on Monday and continued his strong play that night with 27 points against the Pelicans. Harris scored 24 or more points in six of the past nine games and knocked down at least half his field-goal attempts in 15 of the last 21 contests. Forward Danilo Gallinari also has a hot hand with four 20-point efforts in the past six games, including 24 points against New Orleans.

ABOUT THE GRIZZLIES (13-9): Rookie power forward Jaren Jackson Jr. has been a pleasant surprise with averages of 13.9 points and 4.5 rebounds while fitting in with veterans like Conley and center Marc Gasol. “Everybody here knows a lot about the game, so you can pick up a lot just by watching them,” the 19-year-old Jackson told reporters. “If you have a question, it’s easily answered because they have so much experience and they were in the playoffs and they’ve played together for a long time.” Jackson scored a season-best 36 points in Friday’s 131-125 double-overtime victory over the Brooklyn Nets and followed up with 17 points against the 76ers.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. The Clippers won the past three meetings and 10 of the last 14.

2. Williams scored 20 points against the Pelicans to reach the mark for the third time in the past four games.

3. Gasol was just 4-of-14 shooting in the loss to the 76ers after making 16-of-23 over the previous two games.

Preview: Raptors at Grizzlies

Kawhi Leonard may not have been a leader for the San Antonio Spurs, but he is leading the Toronto Raptors to new heights. Leonard will try to guide the Raptors to a sixth consecutive victory and continue the best start in franchise history when they visit the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday.

To play this game at FanPicks…click here

Leonard’s former coach, San Antonio’s Gregg Popovich, made news over the weekend by suggesting that while Leonard was a talented player, he wasn’t someone the team looked to for leadership. “I lead by example coming into practice every day,” Leonard responded to reporters after collecting 29 points and 10 rebounds in a 125-115 win over the Miami Heat on Sunday. “Just going hard and coming into these games mentally focused. You can’t see things once you’re playing on the floor. Guys ask me questions about their matchup or if I see something on the floor, I’m telling guys, ‘Go here, go there,’ just motivating people, do you know what I mean?” The Grizzlies don’t lack for veteran leadership with Mike Conley and Marc Gasol, but the two couldn’t quite pull the team to a win down the stretch on Sunday. “The combination of (Conley) and Marc (Gasol) together is a stress on defenses, there is no doubt about that,” Memphis coach J.B. Bickerstaff told reporters. “So, we depend on (Conley) down the stretch. We live and die with that.”

TV: 8 p.m. ET, Sportsnet One (Toronto), FS Southeast (Memphis)

ABOUT THE RAPTORS (17-4): Leonard is averaging 28 points and 10 rebounds in the last two games after sitting out to rest on the second night of a back-to-back Wednesday and is averaging 24.7 points and 8.5 boards in his first season with Toronto. Leonard is getting some help up front from power forward Pascal Siakam, who scored 21 points on 8-of-9 shooting on Sunday to go over 20 for the fifth time in the last 10 games. Siakam, who reached 20 points once in the first 11 contests, is shooting 63.1 percent from the floor while averaging 14.5 points and 6.7 rebounds.

ABOUT THE GRIZZLIES (12-7): Memphis dropped its last two games but continues to be impressed with the development of rookie power forward Jaren Jackson Jr., who scored 16 points on 6-of-6 shooting while knocking down a career-best four 3-pointers in Sunday’s 103-98 loss to the New York Knicks. Jackson, 19, is making his presence felt on the defensive end as well and matched a franchise rookie record with seven blocks on Sunday. “He was a monster on the defensive end,” Bickerstaff told reporters. “All the shots that he blocked, the shots that he changed, they switched out to him with a small on him and he kept the small in front of him and ended up blocking his shot – those are the things we need to be able to see.”

BUZZER BEATERS

1. The Grizzlies recorded a franchise-record 19 blocked shots on Sunday.

2. Raptors C Jonas Valanciunas recorded a double-double in two of the last three contests.

3. Toronto took both meetings last season and five of the last six in the series.

Fantasy Basketball NBA Playoffs

Memphis Grizzlies vs San Antonio Spurs

The Memphis Grizzlies will travel to Texas to battle the San Antonio Spurs in the 1st game of the their Western Conference series at the tough AT&T Center, a venue where the Spurs only lost once this season to the Warriors. This Fantasy Basketball NBA Playoffs preview is brought you by Fanpicks.com. Come PLAY in our Daily Fantasy Basketball contests at FanPicks and get a free chance to win $1 Million dollars!

Fantasy Basketball NBA Playoffs

San Antonio pretty much swept the season series and it will be very tough to think they can’t sweep this playoff series as well. On top of that, they held the Grizzlies to 87 pts or less in 3 of those 4 games. On Paper, this is the most loopsided series and the Spurs are extremely high favorites to win all games, the largest favorite in the opening.
The Spurs come into this matchup however having lost 3 of their last 5 games. This is the last concern of their head coach Gregg Popvich who’s simply a bit more worried about the health of his team. Most of their losses this end of season were due to resting players. What’s tremendous about this Spurs team is their form at home. They tied the NBA record for home wins going 40-1 this campaign. Their defense is a lot to blame for their success as they rank 1st in in pts allowed.
There’s a lot to admire about this Grizzlies team but unfortunately, not much to hope for. They start the series going against the best team at home and have battled with injuries of their top players such as Marc Gasol, Mike Conley, Mario Chalmers and Zach Randolph. They luckily snuck in the playoffs and in fact, by only winning one of their last 11 games. Zach Randolph is the real catalyst of their team and cannot do it himself. Their offense has held them back lately as they rank in the bottom 6 in both scoring and assists per game.

NBA Daily Fantasy Basketball News – Memphis Grizzlies vs Golden State Warriors

Dominate your competition with our NBA Daily Fantasy Basketball News, create the winning lineup at Fanpicks.com. The Memphis Grizzlies (42-39) travel to Oakland and will attempt to spoil the Golden State Warriors (72-9) shot at history.Fantasy Basketball
It’s tough not to admire the tenacity of this Memphis team, but they simply don’t have the skills they need to win games right now. With Mike Conley, Mario Chalmers and Marc Gasol out of the lineup, the offense is naturally too inefficient to overcome. It’s all so clear by their recent results as well, with the Grizzlies losing nine of their last 10 contests. Not to mention, they could end up all the way to seven in the western conference if they lose this game, which draws a scary confrontation. This team has been a nice story so far this season, but the playoffs could be an unpleasant end to the year, especially of the fact they will either  take on the likes of San Antonio or Oklahoma City.

All the talk in this match-up is about the Warriors pursuit of greatness, as a victory here will give them the best record in NBA history. It’s definitely been an amazing run, as they haven’t lost back-to-back games all season long. The only concern is what this drive will do to them in the playoffs, as all of their competitors have been able to rest many of their main starters, with those of the Warriors playing every game until the end. All-and-all, this is easily the best squad in the NBA and it shouldn’t hamper them much. The Warriors are a projected 18-point favorite in what is one of the most important regular season meeting in recent memory.

NBA Fantasy Preview

The Grizzlies just put an end to a 6 game losing streak earlier this week. Unfortunately for them, they went right back to their losing ways last night in their road loss to the Dallas Mavericks, 103-93. They were led by Tony Allen who finished on a 25 pts, 7 boards and 3 steals performance. Big man Zach Randolph added 13 pts with 6 rebounds shooting only 6 of 20 from the field however. Matt Barnes and Jordan Farmer both finished with 11 pts apiece. The Grizzlies should really be careful as they may lose their 5th place in the Western Conference to the Portland Trail Blazers. Even if this game is a tough one, they have to win the last 2 to secure their position. This should be a high scoring game with the Warriors as double digit favorites.

The Warriors continue their quest for 73 wins, despite going 2-2 in their last four match-ups, and spent Thursday night handling the visiting San Antonio Spurs, 112-101. Having lost only two games at Oracle Arena all season, the team was led in scoring by Stephen Curry, who had 27 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists, going 11 of 19 from the field and 3 of 7 from three-point range. Harrison Barnes recorded 21 points and 8 boards, shooting 3 of 7 from beyond the arc, while Draymond Green finished the night with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists, forcing 4 turnovers along the way. Green has started in all but one game for Golden State this season, 13.9 points, 9.6 rebounds and 7.5 assists. The Warriors will see out their season as the number one rated offense in the NBA, dropping an average of 115.2 points on opponents. If the team is going to break the Bulls’ 1995-96 wins record, they will have to get past the Spurs in San Antonio on Sunday night, who are undefeated at home.

Fantasy NBA Basketball preview
The Spurs are coming into this game after a resounding home win against the Miami Heat two days ago, 112-88. Unfortunately for them, Kawhi Leonard had to leave in the second half with an injury after an incredible performance of 32 pts, 8 boards, a steal and a block. He will not be playing tonight and could potentially miss a few games since the Spurs rather rest him before playoffs.

The Spurs were shooting 51.9% from the field and 57.1% from beyond the arc.
San Antonio are just 4 games behind top seed and defending champions Golden State Warriors in the Conference lead and are still perfect at home with a 36-0 records, dropping only one game in their last 8.
Memphis are coming into this game after a loss to the struggling Los Angeles Lakers 107-100. The Grizzlies were led by Tony Allen’s 27 pts, 5 assists, 4 boards and a steal effort. Zach Randolph added a monstrous 16 pts, 6 boards, 5 assists, 3 steals and a block.

The Grizzlies, are currently ranked 2nd in the Western Conference’s Southwest Division. They sit in 5th in the Conference but should watch out as they’ve dropped 5 of their last 7 contests.

The Spurs have won the first 2 contests this season against Memphis.

NBA Basketball Fantasy Basketball Preview

Kobe Bryant’s Los Angeles Lakers will be hosting the Memphis Grizzlies Friday night in this Western Conference battle. FanPicks has your your fantasy basketball preview for this game. Come enjoy some DFS news and predictions at www.fanpicks.com

Fantasy Basketball Memphis Grizzlies vs Los Angeles Lakers

L.A. comes into this game hoping to end their 7 game losing streak. They’re coming back from a defeat in Memphis 2 nights ago. Unfortunately for the Lakers, their numbers in Kobe’s last year have been absolutely terrible. Terrible to the point where they rank in the bottom 5 teams in pts scored and on average allow over +110 pts a game. On a positive note, their future generation looks promising with youngsters like Julius Randle and D’Angelo Russell.

The Grizzlies are on some kind of hot streak lately, having dropped only one of their last 4. They will hope to continue that streak by beating the Lakers back to back after their latest battle Wednesday. It was the 14th time in their last 16 games that they score way over a 100 pts/ Marc Gasol’s hasn’t really impacted their offense surprisingly. Demarcus Cousins has really been turning it up lately, helping them constantly to boost their offense. They will be hoping to maintain their momentum in this last stretch with the playoffs approaching quickly.

These teams have met twice already this season with the Celtics winning each time on their home court by the score of 111-78 and 118-98 covering the spread handily both times. But Boston has hit the skids in recent games by losing four straight until their beat Indiana at home on Wednesday. The Celtics are on a back to back in this spot after hosting Phoenix on Friday night. Washington has won three straight after a five point home victory to Milwaukee on Wednesday. They too are on a back to back after traveling to Indiana on Friday.

On NBA League Pass Channel at 7:30PM Eastern Time the Detroit Pistons will be home to the Golden St Warriors. They met back on November 9th at Golden St with the Warriors posting the 109-95 victory at home and covering as a -12 ½ point favorite. Warriors have won nine straight against the Pistons. They rebounded after a road loss to Denver with the 116-98 home victory to the LA Lakers on Thursday night. Detroit is 13-6 on their home court but enters with a two game losing streak following a two point loss at Memphis on Thursday.

The Memphis Grizzlies will host the New York Knicks at 8PM Eastern Time on NBA League Pass Channel. The Knicks fall a game below .500 at 20-21 after a 110-104 road defeat to lowly Brooklyn on Wednesday. That broke a two game win streak for the team as the Nets were hot from the field. Memphis has struggled shooting the basketball this season that has resulted in a 22-19 mark. They are 3-1 on this home stand after beating Detroit 1-3-101 on Thursday.

The late night game begins at 10:30PM Eastern Time on NBA League Pass Channel as the LA Clippers will host the Sacramento Kings. These are two teams that don’t like each other. The Clippers have won both meetings thus far with Sacramento posting a 111-104 win at Sacramento and three days later beat the Kings at home 114-109.

The Pistons had a three-game winning streak halted at home by the formidable San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday night, 109-99, to fall to 13-6 at The Palace of Auburn Hills. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope put up 25 points on 9 of 14 shooting for Detroit, while Andre Drummond had 17 points and 10 rebounds to add to his league-leading 587 boards on the season. Reggie Jackson had his own double-double off of 10 points and 11 rebounds in the loss. Despite falling to one of the top teams in the West, the Pistons have established themselves as a legitimate Playoff contender as the midway point of the 2015-16 campaign draws near. Now sitting at seventh place in the East, the team faces more stiff West competition on Saturday night when they host the Golden State Warriors.

Memphis, sixth place in the Western Conference, were dropped by 107-91 by the visiting Houston Rockets on Tuesday night. Marc Gasol led the Grizzlies in scoring with 20 points, while Tony Allen put up 17 points while going 6-for-12 from the paint. The team has found a relative amount of success this season despite possessing a pedestrian offense that sees them record an average of 95.9 points per game, third-worst in the NBA. Mike Conley, the second-leading producer for Memphis with 15.1 points per contest through 36 games played, has missed four straight match-ups with a sore left Achilles. Conley is expected to suit up for Wednesday’s game, the fourth of six at home for Memphis.

Houston Rockets vs. Memphis Grizzlies

The Houston Rockets (19-19) will be hosted by the Memphis Grizzlies  (12-26) in an intra-divisional match up on Tuesday evening. Starting Lineup Houston comes into the contest as winners of three straight, their second-best such streak this season. The Rockets edged the Indiana Pacers in their most recent victory, a hard-fought 107-103 overtime win Sunday. Trevor Ariza led the way with a season-high 24 points, and also added five rebounds. The scoring haul included an impressive 5-for-9 performance from long range. Dwight Howard, who’d been questionable heading into the night with a back injury, exploded for an impressive 21-point, 17-rebound double-double, his fifth straight such performance. James Harden and Patrick Beverley rounded out a very productive night for the Houston starting five with respective 21-point and 16-point tallies. The Rockets will come into the game in relatively full health, with only Ty Lawson (suspension) and Donatas Motiejunas (back) out of action.

Memphis comes in having won two straight games, and five of their last seven. Four of those victories have come at home, with the most recent a 101-98 nail-biter versus the Celtics on Sunday. Boston carried a 76-68 lead into the fourth quarter before the Grizzlies mounted a furious comeback. Zach Randolph gave Memphis a shot in the arm on offense in starting the second half in place of the struggling Jeff Green, and finished with 25 points and 13 rebounds, a performance reminscent of some of the 15-year veteran’s dominating outings throughout the years. Mario Chalmers and Tony Allen, who were each starting their second consecutive games in place of the sidelined Mike Conley (Achilles) and Courtney Lee (hip), also made vital contributions. The former stuffed the stat sheet with 18 points, five rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals, while the latter posted a 15-point, 10-rebound double-double. With a victory, the Grizzlies will hope to gain ground on the second-place Dallas Mavericks in the Southwest Division, which they currently trail by 1.5 games.

Starting Lineup The Nuggets finally put a halt to a six-game skid on Wednesday night, edging the Minnesota Timberwolves on the road in a low-scoring affair, 78-74. Danilo Gallinari led the team in production as one of only two players on the team to score in double digits, putting up 20 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Gallinari also made 6 of 7 shots from the foul line. Kostas Papanikolaou scored a double-double off the bench with 15 points and 10 rebounds while Denver shot a putrid 35.8% from the field. The team is 8th worst in the NBA in both offense and defense, averaging 98.8 points and allowing opponents to put up 103.4 points per game. The Nuggets are 5-11 at home and will return from Memphis for an eight-game stand at Pepsi Center against some of the best teams in the West, including Golden State and Oklahoma City.

The Grizzlies have been the picture of inconsistency all season long, losing their latest game on the road to the Oklahoma City Thunder, 112-94, as they remain in third place in the Southwest Division. Mario Chalmers, who has been a boon for the team since being acquired for their 2105-16 campaign, led Memphis in scoring off the bench with 23 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists, making 4 of 8 three-point attempts in the process. Chalmers is averaging 10.5 points for the team on the season. Matt Barnes added 13 points but wasn’t able to find a rhythm from long range, putting in only one triple in six attempts. Friday’s contest will be the first of a six-game stretch at home for the Grizzlies

Fantasy basketball The Grizzlies have been an interesting team this year and it’s tough to know what you’re going to get on any given night. The team is synonymous with defense and while that was down at the beginning of the season, they have turned it around recently. In fact, they are allowing just over 92 points per game since the beginning of December. Memphis has opted to bring Zach Randolph off the bench lately and he had his best game of the season in their most recent win. He put up a 26 point-18 rebound line in a spectacular performance. One would think that games like that would get him back into the starting-five, but they’re doing some bizarre things in Memphis right now. It’s even more strange considering the state of the offense, as they rank 29th in scoring this year.

The Thunder had to play their last game without Kevin Durant and it was a nightmare result. Durant injured his toe last weekend and it appears he’s unlikely for this game as well. In the game without Durant, the Thunder lost to a Sacramento Kings team as a double-digit favorite. This team really struggled in the first few weeks without Durant as well and it’s a wonder why their so much worse even with all the talent they possess outside of KD. Oklahoma City comes into this matchup as a six-point favorite and this should be a good test for them without their MVP against a Western Conference contender.
