Giants vs Marlins

They have combined to hold the opposition to two or fewer runs in 28 of their 43 starts this season, although neither managed to win his last time out. Miami saw an high-profile chase come to an end in Sunday’s victory over the Rockies, as Ichiro Suzuki became the fourth player born outside the United States and 30th in major-league history to reach 3,000 hits.

Brewers rookie center fielder Keon Broxton reached base nine times in the series and is hitting .387 with seven walks, three doubles, two homers and seven RBIs in his past 12 games. Milwaukee leads the majors in stolen bases (116). They are led by Jonathan Villar, who stole two bases Sunday and opens the week tied with Cincinnati’s Billy Hamilton for the major-league lead (43).

Former top prospect and Twins third baseman Miguel Sano has endured an up-and-down campaign in his first full season in the majors but led the offense with a pair of home runs in Sunday’s 6-3 victory in Tampa Bay.

Reds vs Cardinals

The Reds are highlighting individual successes in an otherwise disappointing campaign and got three hits and four stolen bases from center fielder Billy Hamilton on Sunday. Cincinnati second baseman Brandon Phillips is also red hot going 12-for-19 with eight RBIs in the last five games.

Fantasy Baseball Daily Notables

  • Reds right fielder Jay Bruce has been one of the team’s bright spots, and the Mariners will be careful with him in the middle of the lineup. Earlier this week, Bruce became the all-time home run leader at Great American Ball Park with 128, overtaking Adam Dunn.
  • Miami Marlins infielder Martin Prado has been a nemesis for the Nationals over the years, hitting. 312 with 10 home runs and 51 RBIs.
  • Since joining the Texas Rangers in 2011, Adrian Beltre is hitting .348 with 13 home runs, 44 RBIs and a .609 slugging percentage in 69 games against the Houston Astros.
  • New York Yankees lefty CC Sabathia returns from the disabled list tonight. He will make his 30th career start against the A’s in which the hurler has collected an 9-11 all-time record against Oakland with a 4.71 career ERA. The Bay Area native has struggled at the Coliseum, going 4-7 with a 5.44 ERA. With a victory though, Sabathia would become the 17th pitcher in Yankees history to reach 100 wins.

MLB Baseball Fantasy Preview

New York Mets vs Kansas City Royals

It’s that time of the year where the highly anticipated MLB season will freshly begin. The New York Mets will be travelling to Kauffman Stadium where they will face the defending MLB Champions, Kansas City Royals. FanPicks is proud to bring you this MLB Baseball Fantasy preview. Come play in our MLB Grand Slam Contest where you can win up to a $1 million this week at FanPicks.

MLB Baseball Fantasy Preview

Edinson Volquez will be the starter for the Royals as they defend World Series championship at the expense of the same New York Mets.

He had a 13-9 record with a 3.55 ERA the past campaign. During the World Series, he actually started the first game and in Game 5 against the Mets. He didn’t earn the wins as the bullpen of the Royals really helped. He was 8-4 on home starts with a .348 ERA.

Greg Holland’s loss as a reliever to the Royals will be compensated by the addition of Joakim Soria. Soria had 24 saves with a 2.53 ERA for the Pirates last year.

Speaking of the Royals’ relievers, the unit is minus Greg Holland, who is now a free agent. That said, the addition of Joakim Soria should soften the blow of Holland’s loss. Soria had 24 saves and a 2.53 ERA for Pittsburgh last season.

Kansas City will be hoping that their offense remains productive on offense. They may lack in power but for some reason, they’ve been mastering in putting the balls in play. They showed it especially against the Mets during the World Series. They were 2nd last in The AL with only 139 runs but 2nd in the major for batting average with runners in scoring position explaining their success.

Matt Harvey will be the starter for the New York Mets this Opening Day.

The Mets have questionably the best rotation in the MLB. Harvey was 13-8 with a 2.71 ERA last season. He made 4 playoffs appearance last year and went 2-0 with a 3.04 ERA. Harvey has a 5-5 record on 12 road starts last year with a 3.42 ERA.

For their offensive weapons, the Mets can count on the bats of Yoenis Cespedes, David Wright and Curtis Granderson. Cespedes arrived during the middle of the season in New York after a trade and literally transformed the Mets’ offense into a feared one. His 17 home runs in 57 games were quite impressive. He was very calm in the World Series going 3 for 17 only.

Fantasy Baseball Chicago White Sox Projection 2016

For the upcoming 2016 Major League Baseball season, FanPicks take a look at every single team and what are their expectations for the upcoming year. The Chicago White Sox stayed busy this winter, acquiring several veteran to fill offseason needs. They’ve added last year’s home run derby winner Todd Frazier, 2007 National League MVP Jimmy Rollins and 2-time American League Triple leader Austin Jackson. While all those new players in the town of South Side Chicago are upgrading the team, it’s some of the returning players that will lead them to contention. Here is FanPicks Fantasy Baseball Chicago White Sox Projection 2016 :

Fantasy Baseball Chicago White Sox Projection 2016

Player to watch:

  • SP Chris Sale
  • 1B Jose Abreu
  • OF Adam Eaton

Chris Sale, who will turn 27 years-old when the season starts, his bound to upgrade his statistics in 2016. He led the American League in strikeouts, last season. What’s even more impressive is that he won 8 of his first twelve decisions despite missing several week of spring training because of a foot injury. The moment he most shined last year was in June, striking out 75 in 44 innings of work. He finished the campaign losing once in his last five decision.

Abreu became the second player in MLB history to collect 30 homers and a 100 RBI’s in his first two season in the big leagues. The first one was a certain Albert Pujols. The Puerto Rcan should also see more fastball coming his way with the arrival of fellow slugger Todd Frazier, batting behind him in the lineup. Chicago is surely excited to see that combo in action.

The Sox leadoff hitter excelled during the latter part of the 2015 season, posting an on-base percentage of .418, hitting eight of his 14 home runs and driving in 38 runs after the All-Star game. He has set career highs in runs scored, with 98, and stolen bases, with 18, by the end of the year.

For a team that finished last in the American League for home runs swung last year (inside a hitter friendly park for that matter), there was a room for improvement in that department coming into the season. Brett Lawrie and Todd Frazier should provide the help needed to support Jose Abreu at-bats. As for the pitching department, it looks solid with the trio of Chris Sale, Jose Quintana and Carlos Rodon.

Major League Baseball Fantasy Draft News October 17th 2015

Chicago Cubs versus New York Mets Game 1 MLB NLCS Fantasy Preview 10-17-2015

The NLCS begins on Saturday October 18th as its Game 1 between the Chicago Cubs and New York Mets. Fantasy baseball draft GMs can tune to TBS TV at 7:30PM Eastern Time to track the results of their roster picks.

The Mets qualified for the NLCS after disposing of the LA Dodgers in five games. They win a deciding fifth game at Dodgers Stadium on Thursday by the score of 3-2. The Cubs were able to dispose of the St Louis Cardinals in four games as Chicago earned the 6-4 victory in the series clincher on Tuesday at home in Chicago. The Cubs and Mets have met seven times during the regular season with Chicago winning all seven games. The Cubs pitching staff put on a dominating effort limiting New York to one run or fewer in five of the seven games.

Chicago Cubs LF:

Chris Coghlan

The Cubs don’t have much history facing Harvey over their careers. Coghlan stands out as he is 3 for 8 life time against the Mets starter with two RBIs.

Chicago Cubs P:

Jon Lester

On the year the Cubs left hander is 11-12 with an ERA of 3.34 and WHIP of 1.12. He had a start in the NLDS at St Louis and went 7 1/3rd innings and gave up three earned runs in a 4-0 road loss at St Louis.

New York Mets RF:

Curtis Granderson

New York Mets 1B:

Lucas Duda

The Mets first baseman is 2 for 6 life time against Lester with a home run.

Curtis Granderson has a long history against Lester in his career. In 44 at bats Granderson is batting .273 with two homers and four RBIs.

New York Mets P:

Matt Harvey

The Mets right hander on the season is 13-8 in his 29 starts with an ERA of 2.71 and WHIP of 1.02. He worked Game 3 of the NLDS against the Dodgers and allowed two earned runs and seven hits over five innings in a 13-7 home victory to the LA Dodgers.

Toronto Blue Jays versus Kansas City Royals Game 2 MLB ALCS Fantasy Baseball Preview 10-17-2015

This will be Game 2 of the ALCS series. It was the Kansas City Royals behind a great six innings no run performance by Edinson Volquez as they posted the 5-0 victory to take 1-0 lead in this best of seven series. The outstanding Royals bullpen shut out the power hitting Blue Jays the rest of the way to their victory.

Toronto Blue Jays RF:

Jose Bautista

Not too much history for Blue Jays hitters battling Ventura. Jose Bautista stands out with a 3 for 5 against Ventura with a homer and RBI.

Toronto Blue Jays P:

David Price

The Blue Jays left hander is 18-5 on the year with an ERA of 2.45 and WHIP of 1.08. He faced Texas twice in the ALDS and allowed a total of eight earned runs and eleven hits over ten innings of work as he went 1-1 in those two playoff games.

Kansas City Royals RF:

Alex Rios

The KC Royals have had good success hitting David Price with a Team Batting average of .293. Royal’s right fielder Alex Rios has crushed Price by batting .400 against him with two homers and ten RBIs in 30 at bats.

Kansas City Royals P:

Yordano Ventura

The KC right hander is 13-8 in his 28 starts on the season with an ERA of 4.08 and WHIP of 1.30. Ventura faced the Astros twice in the playoffs and allowed a total of six earned runs and eight hits over seven innings of work.

Series Fantasy Value Picks:

P Clayton Kershaw – Los Angeles Dodgers

Kershaw let the first game slide to the Mets. It`s doubtful he will repeat this failure a second time around, if he gets to pitch in this series again.

P Steven Matz – New York Mets

Matz has been impressive in his first year in the big league. The sensational rookie could be the game changer in the fourth game of the series.

1B Adrian Gonzalez – Los Angeles Dodgers

Gonzalez is a home run threat every time he shows up at the plate.

SS Wilmer Flores – New York Mets

Flores made his case this year to earn the Mets starting shortstop gig.

OF Michael Conforto – New York Mets

Conforto made his MLB debut against the Los Angeles and even had a 4-for-4 in a 15-2 win over the Dodgers back on July 25th. The rookie has potential to be a Dodger nightmare.

Series Fantasy Value Picks:

P Jake Arrieta – Chicago Cubs – Postseason (1-0, 0.00 ERA, 11 SO)

Arrieta was nearly untouchable against the Pittsburgh Pirates in the NLWC game. The pitcher with the most wins in the league did not record a loss since July 25.  That’s almost three month ago.

P John Lackey – St-Louis Cardinals – Postseason (1-0, 0.00 ERA, 5 SO)

Lackey didn’t record any run during the first game of the series. He’s been solid against the Cubs all season long.

C Miguel Montero – Chicago Cubs – Postseason (1 Run, 0 HR, 1 RBI, .143 AVG)

Montero is one of the best offensive catchers in the MLB. He caught two no-hitters for his pitcher during his career. Once in 2010, with Edwin Jackson in a Diamondbacks uniform. And the second time, with ace Jake Arrieta this past season.

1B Anthony Rizzo – Chicago Cubs – Postseason (1 Run, 0 HR, 0 RBI, .000 AVG)

Rizzo had a great end to the 2015 regular season, going 5-for-13 in his last three games. He’s also leads the majors in hit-by-pitch with 30. He’s the second player since 1914 to hit over 30 homers and get hit by a pitch over 30 times in a single season.

1B Mark Reynolds – St. Louis Cardinals – Postseason (0 Run, 0 HR, 0 RBI, .000 AVG)

Despite being a bench player, Reynolds is still a solid power hitter. He had his fourth grand slam off Cubs lefty reliever Travis Wood back on May 4th.

SS Addison Russell – Chicago Cubs – Postseason (0 Run, 0 HR, 1 RBI, .200 AVG)

Russell is one of the best prospects in fantasy baseball, right now.

3B Matt Carpenter – St. Louis Cardinals – Postseason (2 Runs, 1 HR, 1 RBI, .143 AVG)

Carpenter raised his total of home runs and RBI’s at the expense of his average. He can change the momentum of a game with one swing of the bat.

OF Jason Hewyard – St. Louis Cardinals – Postseason (0 Run, 0 HR, 0 RBI, .250 AVG)

Heyward has yet to repeat on his home runs and RBI’s total from 2012, but the southpaw was at least able get his batting average 25 points above his career average.

OF Dexter Fowler – Chicago Cubs – Postseason (4 Runs, 1 HR, 2 RBI’s, .385 AVG)

Fowler has been tremendous as the Cubs leadoff. He had 1 dinger and 3 runs in the NLWC game against the Pirates.

Series Fantasy Value Picks:

P Dallas Keuchel – Houston Astros – Season: 20-8, 2.48 ERA, 216 Strikeouts

Keuchel is unbeatable at Minute Maid Park. It will be hard to believe he will ever lose again there. Until that day comes, he will be an obvious pick every time he pitch there. Game 3 of the series will be his next start.

1B Kendrys Morales – Kansas City Royals – Season: .290 AVG, 81 Runs, 22 HR’s, 106 RBI’s

Morales leads the team in RBI’s. He was exceptionally good in September hitting .323 with 7 home runs and and 22 runs scored. The Royals will rely on him to produce more points for them during the post-season.

2B Jose Altuve – Houston Astros – Season: .313 AVG, 86 Runs, 15 HR’s, 66 RBI’s

Altuve finished once again as the leader in the league for stolen bases with 38. There is no better second basemen right now than Altuve. He is on top of his game at the plate and on the field. Cash Draft managers will want him on their team every day.

SS Carlos Correa – Houston Astros – Season: .279 AVG, 52 Runs, 22 HR’s, 68 RBI’s

Correa showed that he’s a true fantasy option at shortstop this year. He is the favorite to win the A.L. rookie of the year award. The 21 year-old is sitting comfortably third in the lineup, and with Altuve and Springer in front of him, the RBI’s will keep coming.

3B Luis Valbuena – Houston Astros – Season: .224 AVG, 62 Runs, 25 HR’s, 56 RBI’s

Valbuena knocked a suprising 25 dingers this year. There has been quite a few shakeups this year at third base with Jed Lowrie getting so play time at the end of the season. But power is never a bad thing and Valbuena will deliver them, especially at hitter friendly Minute Maid Park.

OF Lorenzo Cain – Kansas City Royals – Season: .308 AVG, 101 Runs, 16 HR’s, 72 RBI’s

Cain is a fabulous hitter with a lot of speed. At home, he holds a batting average of .337 with 55 runs, 9 homers and 46 RBI’s. The center fielder had great performances against the Astros this season. He has a .389 average against them.

Series Prediction: Houston Astros in 4 Games

Series Value Picks:

P Yovani Gallardo – Texas Rangers – Season: 13-11, 3.42 ERA, 121 SO

Gallardo is Toronto’s kryptonite. He has never lost a game against the Jays in three start. Two of them came this year, and he didn’t even allow a run to score in 13.2 innings of work. The Mexican will pitch in the first game of the series against David Price. Toronto’s ace is 1-5 with a 4.50 ERA in 10 playoff games. Gallardo has the advantage in that matchup.

P Marcus Stroman – Toronto Blue Jays – Season: 4-0, 1.67 ERA, 18 SO

Stroman continued where he left off last year. He’s 4-0 with 1.67 ERA since coming back from a lengthy D.L. stint on September 12th. The young Phenom had two great start at Roger Centre this year. He has allowed 1 earned run in total in his home field. No wonder the Jays wants him to pitch the second game of the series in Toronto.

1B Prince Fielder – Texas Rangers – Season:  .305 AVG, 78 Runs, 23 HR’s, 98 RBI’s

Fielder led his team in RBI’s (98) and batting average (.305) this year. In 6 games against the Jays over the season, he was hitting .320. The big man will enter the series with 39 post- season game under his belt, just trailing teammate Mike Napoli (47) and opponent Russell Martin (40) for the most in this series.

1B Edwin Encarnacion – Toronto Blue Jays – Season: .277 AVG, 94 Runs, 39 HR’s, 111 RBI’s

Encarnacion was impressive in the 6 games against the Rangers this year. He has scored 4 runs, knocked 4 deep flies and brought in 11 RBI’s. In their last meeting, the 32 years-old had 5 RBI’s and 2 homers. Encarnacion is ready for the playoffs as he belted 4 homers in the last 5 games of the season.

3B Adrian Beltre – Texas Rangers – Season: .287 AVG, 83 Runs, 18 HR’s, 83 RBI’s

Beltre is on fire right now. He has 13 RBI’s and is batting .500 in the last week of the season. The veteran was also solid in series at home against the Blue Jays, getting an average of .333 with 1 home run and 3 RBI’s.

3B Josh Donaldson – Toronto Blue Jays – Season: .297 AVG, 122 Runs, 41 HR’s, 123 RBI’s

Donaldson finished second in the league in runs batted in with 123, and first in run scored with 122. He was such an amazing player this year that he is the favorite to win the A.L. MVP award. His grit and determination will make him a definite fantasy pick in this series.

SS Troy Tulowitzki – Toronto Blue Jays – Season: .280 AVG, 77 Runs, 17 HR’s, 70 RBI’s

Tulowitzki just came back from an injury that kept him out for most of September. It’s a perfect time for him to make his return because of the extra power he can bring to this team of heavy hitters. It was back in 2007 that he made it to the World Series, and 2009 was his last post-season game.

OF Shin Soo-Choo – Texas Rangers – Season: .276 AVG, 94 Runs, 22 HR’s, 82 RBI’s

Choo has bested is numbers from last year, gathering 22 home run, 82 RBI’s and a .276 batting average. At 33 years-old, he will finally get the chance to play in his first division series. The Korean blasted the ball over the fence during the NLWC back in 2013. That was his only post-season appearance.

OF Jose Bautista – Toronto Blue Jays – Season: .250 AVG, 108 Runs, 40 HR’s, 114 RBI’s

Bautista is the only one of the three headed monster (Donaldson, Encarnacion) to have yet played in October baseball playoff. The 34 years-old has reached 40 home runs and more than a 100 RBI’s for the first time since the 2011 season.

Series Prediction: Texas Rangers in 5

Daily Fantasy Baseball NLWC Preview – Chicago Cubs vs Pittsburgh Pirates

Cash Draft Baseball Contest continues Wednesday with the National League Wild Card Game between the Chicago Cubs and the Pittsburgh Pirates. Is this the year that Chicago can finally lift the curse of the Billy Goat, or will Pittsburgh follow up on their best season since 1991? One thing for sure, the winner will move on to face the St. Louis Cardinals in the NLDS.

The Chicago Cubs have won 11 out of the 19 matchups against the Pittsburgh Pirates this season. They’ve also defeated them 6 time in 10 games at PNC Park, Pittsburgh home stadium, during the year. You can follow the game this Wednesday on TBS at 8pm Eastern Time.

Pitching matchup: Chicago Cubs Jake Arrieta (22-6) vs Pittsburgh Pirates Gerrit Cole (19-8)

Two N.L. CY Young contenders will take the mound in the NLWC. The Cubs have the MLB leader in wins Jake Arrieta. He became, this season, the 14th player in Cubs history to get a no-hitter and the 6th in the league this year. The 29 years-old did not lose a game since July 25th, racking up 11 wins and a 0.57 ERA in that stretch. This season, he’s holding an ERA of 1.77 and 236 strikeouts. The Pittsburgh Pirates will turn to their young ace to even the odds. Gerrit Cole finished the year with a 2.60 ERA and 202 strikeouts. What’s going for Cole is that he already has playoff experience (1-1, 2.45 ERA), as opposed to Arrieta who will make his post-season debut.

Arrieta has faced the Pirates 5 time, this year. He’s 3-1 with a 0.75 ERA against them. His counterpart, Gerrit Cole, also had a 3-1 record in 4 games against the Cubs. His earned run average is a bit higher at 2.15. Cole is going to come to the game with a week rest under his belt. He hasn’t pitched since September 30th. Even with the quality pitching Cole bring to the field, he needs to be perfect to defeat Arrieta and the Cubs

Catchers: Chicago Cubs Miguel Montero vs Pittsburgh Pirates Francisco Cervelli

Francisco Cervelli proved that he’s more than a defensive catcher. He bested his career numbers in home run (7), run batted in (43) and runs (56) this season. He has completed the year with a .295 batting average. Miguel Montero has been tagged as one of the best catchers over the last few years. He has hit 15 homers and 53 RBI’s, scored 36 runs and batted .248 in 2015.

First basemen: Chicago Cubs Anthony Rizzo vs Pittsburgh Pirates Pedro Alvarez

Chicago Cubs slugger Anthony Rizzo reached over a 100 RBI’s for the first time in his career. He’s been the big bat for his team all season long, hitting .278 with 31 blasts and 101 RBI’s while stealing base 17 times. Opposing Rizzo at first base is Pedro Alvarez. The 2nd overall pick in the 2008 MLB draft is in the prime years of his career. He has 77 RBI’s with 27 dingers and a .243 average.

Second basemen: Chicago Cubs Starlin Castro vs Pittsburgh Pirates Neil Walker

Neil Walker is a solid second baseman, one might even say underrated. With 16 homers, 71 RBI’s and a .269 average this year, the 30 year-old will need to raise his low post-season batting average. The Chicago Cubs shifted Starlin Castro from shortstop to second base back in August. Depending whether he’s still playing at shortstop in your Daily Fantasy League, Castro still needs to improve his bat to become an offensive infielder. He’s hitting .265 with 11 home runs and 69 RBI’s this year.

Third basemen: Chicago Cubs Kris Bryant vs Pittsburgh Pirates Aramis Ramirez

It’s rookie vs veteran in this third base head-to-head. Aramis Ramirez had an illustrious career in the majors. But at 37 years-old saw his bat start to slow down. He had 17 home runs and 75 RBI’s with a .246 batting average, this year. Kris Bryant delivered in his first season in the big leagues. A total of 26 deep flies, 99 RBI’s and a .275 average has him lead the race for the N.L. rookie of the year.

Shortstops: Chicago Cubs Addison Russell vs Pittsburgh Pirates Jordy Mercer

Addison Russell is another Chicago prospect that performed well for the team. Batting .242 with 13 home runs and 54 RBI’s, he’s likely to be the sleeper in this Fantasy Baseball competition. Jordy Mercer hits in the bottom of the order and it shows. He has 3 homers, 34 RBI’s and a .244 average.

Outfielders: Chicago Cubs Dexter Fowler, Kyle Schwarber & Chris Coghlan

vs Pittsburgh Pirates Gregory Polanco, Starling Marte & Andrew McCutchen

Nobody is really standing out in the Cubs outfield this year. Yet again, another rookie has the potential to be a sleeper. Kyle Schwarber was the 4th overall pick in the 2014 MLB draft. A player making the team this soon definitely has something special. He has collected 16 homers, 432 RBI’s, 52 runs and a .246 average this season. His fantasy position is still iffy. He could still be a catcher in some one day cash draft league. Dexter Fowler is the better, more seasoned fantasy option. He is batting .250 with 17 home runs, 46 RBI’s and 20 stolen bases. Chris Coghlan has 41 RBI’s with 16 homers and a .250 batting average.

The Pirates outfield is probably the team best feature. And it’s all thanks to the 2013 National League Most Valuable Player. Andrew McCutchen is a definite fantasy pick in the NLWC. He had 96 RBI’s, 23 homers and a batting average of .292, in 2015. Both Starling Marte and Gregory Polanco made some strides to become stars, this year in the big league. Marte had 81 RBI’s, 19 dingers and 30 stolen bases with an average of .287, while Polanco finished his year with 9 homers, 84 runs, 27 stolen bases and an average of .256.

MLB Fantasy Baseball Draft News – C.C. Sabathia is going to rehab

Yankees lefthander C.C. Sabathia announced on Monday that he needed to check himself into an alcohol rehabilitation center. That means he will be unavailable for the one day cash draft playoffs contests starting Tuesday. The Yankees begin their post-season journey that same day in the American League Wild Card game against the Houston Astros. Masahiro Tanaka is slated to be their starter for this confrontation.

If New York wins the game and continued their path to the World Series, Sabathia would’ve been part of the rotation going forward. But that is not the case anymore. The Yankees will turn to Adam Warren to fill the hole.

New York’s rotation now includes ace Masahiro Tanaka, Luis Severino, Michael Pineda and Adam Warren. Ivan Nova could spot start, but he’s been inconsistent since coming back from Tommy John surgery.

Sabathia was the only lefty in the rotation and also the last winning starter this season. He had a record of 6-10 with 137 strikeouts and a 4.73 ERA in 2015. In the post-season, he holds a record of 9-5 with 101 K’s while having a 4.53 ERA in 107.1 innings of work.

It’s sad to see him leave the competition when he brings a lot of fantasy value, but it’s all in his honor to try to get better during this time. He’ll only get better through the sport of baseball and in life when he comes back from rehab. And for that I congratulate him.

Daily Fantasy Baseball ALWC Preview – Houston Astros vs New York Yankees

The road to the World Series begins now. One day fantasy baseball will continue with deeper and more in-depth selection as the numbers of MLB matchups dwindles down from here on out. Fantasy Baseball managers, this is your time to shine. The playoffs begins Sunday with the American League Wild Card game between the Houston Astros and the New York Yankees. The Bronx Bombers returns to the post-season after missing it the last two years, while the Astros will try to reach the ALDS and become the first team to make it there in both the National and American league.

The season series went to the Astros, who won 4 out of the 7 matchups this season. Houston also defeated New York twice in the three game series at Yankee stadium back on August. The winners of this showdown will move on to face the Kansas City Royals. You can follow the game this Tuesday on ESPN at 8pm Eastern Time.

Pitching matchup: Houston Astros Dallas Keuchel (20-8) vs New York Yankees Masahiro Tanaka (12-7)

Dallas Keuchel has been lights out when pitching at home this year, going 15-0 with a 1.46 ERA. Unfortunately for him, he’ll be pitching on enemy territory for the Wild Card game. The Yanks will be sending their ace Masahiro Tanaka to the mound. He has struggled in his last two starts though. The Japanese has been dealing with a hamstring strain in the last week. But he will have rested for six days when the game starts. Both of those pitchers will make their post-season debut.

Tanaka has faced the Astros once this year. He has allowed 7 hits and 6 earned run while striking out 5 during 5 innings of work in that contest. He was rewarded with a no-decision after the Yankees came back in the last two innings. Keuchel had more success than his counterpart. He has defeated the Yankees twice in two games this season, giving up 9 hits and no run with 21 strikeouts in 16 innings. If it wasn’t for the fact that he’s 5-8 with a 3.77 ERA in away game, Keuchel would’ve been a sure thing. He’s still a reliable fantasy pick for Tuesday.

Catchers: Houston Astros Jason Castro vs New York Yankees Brian McCann

It’s hard to argue with this one. Brian McCann is the meat and bone of the Yankees power offense, this year. His numbers show it, with 94 RBI’s and 26 home runs. He’s still batting a meager .232. Jason Castro has 11 homers and 31 RBI’s with a .211 average.

First basemen: Houston Astros Chris Carter vs New York Yankees Greg Bird

Greg Bird is the revelation of the year for the Yankees. He came up from the minors in August to replace the injured Mark Teixeira and produced 11 homers with 31 RBI’s while hitting .261 in 46 games. Not bad for the rookie Bird. Chris Carter has been all muscle, no finesse in his approach this year. He has collected 64 RBI’s and 24 home runs with a .199 average. Carter is more productive against the opponent’s pitcher, hitting a perfect 1.000 average in 2 at-bats. You can count a dinger and 2 RBI’s in those meetings.

Second basemen: Houston Astros Jose Altuve vs New York Yankees Rob Refsnyder

Jose Altuve is the A.L. stolen base leader in the past two years. He has warranted his spot as the best second baseman playing in fantasy baseball right now. This season, he has gathered a .313 batting average with 66 RBI’s, 15 homers and 38 stolen bases. On the other team, you have rookie Rob Refsnyder, who has done well hitting .302 at the bottom of the order. He holds 2 long balls and 5 RBI’s this season.

Third basemen: Houston Astros Jed Lowrie vs New York Yankees Chase Headley & Alex Rodriguez

After missing more than a year of Major League Baseball, A-Rod came back hammering the baseball with force. He has completed the season with 33 homers and 86 RBI’s while hitting .250. Think what you may about him, he’s still has a lot of fantasy value left in him. Former Boston Red Sox Jed Lowrie had one of his worst seasons. A .222 average with 1 homer and 5 RBI’s is not good enough, especially when batting in the middle of the order. It doesn’t look like Chase Headley will be able to emulate his 2012 amazing season. It just seems to go downhill for the 31 year-old. He had 11 home runs and 62 RBI’s with a .259 average in the course of the season. He holds one blast and 3 RBI’s against Keuchel. But none of it came this year, as he got flat out blanked by the lefty in 2015.

Shortstops: Houston Astros Carlos Correa vs New York Yankees Didi Gregorius

Carlos Correa is a definite contender for the A.L. rookie of the year award and could likely win it. He has proven all doubters that he deserved being picked first overall in the 2012 MLB draft. The Puerto Rican led all American League rookies in home run this season. He has compiled a 22 homers, 14 stolen bases, 68 RBI’s and a .279 average all year. Didi Gregorius has increased his numbers this year, acquiring 56 RBI’s, 9 deep flies and a .265 batting average. There is still room for improvement.

Outfielders: Houston Astros George Springer, Evan Gattis, Colby Rasmus & Carlos Gomez vs New York Yankees Jacoby Ellsbury, Chris Young & Carlos Beltran

The Houston Astros have built themselves a nice outfield group during the last offseason. The big designated hitter Evan Gattis came in a trade from Atlanta, and has racked up 27 homers, 88 RBI’s and a .246 average. Colby Rasmus had a bounce back season with 25 home runs, 61 RBI’s and batting .238 this year. Carlos Gomez didn’t have has much stolen bases this season has opposed to the last few. He has finished the year hitting .255 while collecting 12 homers, 56 RBI’s and 17 stolen bases. George Springer finally made the starting lineup this year. The 2011 Astros first round pick 41 RBI’s, 16 stolen bases and 16 home runs while batting for .276.

It’s a more aged group of outfielder that the Yankees assembled this year. At 38 years-old, it’s hard to believe that Carlos Beltran can still give in solid numbers. Well he did, batting .276 with 19 home run and 67 RBI’s.  Jacoby Ellsbury saw his number digress this season with 21 stolen bases, 33 RBI’s, and 7 home runs with an average of .257. To make matters worse, he is currently dealing with an injured back. Chris Young, the batter of choice against lefties for the Yanks, has acquired 14 blast, 42 RBI’s and an average of .252. He has faced Keuchel exactly 20 times, and has collected 6 hits against the southpaw.
