NFL Fantasy Draft News—A Look at Offensive Playmakers for Week One 8-31-2015
The Green Bay Packers suffered a major injury during the preseason with lead wide receiver Jordy Nelson out for the season. Draft managers are high on the Green Bay Packers with Aaron Rodgers at quarterback. Randall Cobb will now be asked to step up in a more prominent role with his team. Cobb is small in stature and may not get as many red zone targets as Nelson did. The Packers got a huge scare on Saturday as Randall Cobb was injured as he went down very hard on his shoulder. The indications are the injury is not very serious.
Rob Gronkowski should be an interesting decision for NFL draft managers. With Tom Brady looking to miss at least the opener of the season can you trust that Jimmy Garappolo can deliver in tight windows downfield in week one? It may be wise to look for value at the tight end position in week one and look to spend more on wide outs and running backs in your draft.
Justin Forsett put up some great numbers in 2014. The beauty of drafting Forsett is the depth around him is not too promising. Expect Forsett to get the bulk of the carries in week one with a significant drop in quality behind him on the bench.
Golden Tate has shown improvement each year in the league. He caught just under 100 receptions for over 1300 yards in the 2014 campaign. He is quick off the line of scrimmage and provides value in drafts as teams may look to put heavy attention on Johnson in his pass patterns.
Running back C.J. Spiller gets upgraded going to New Orleans after spending his career with the Buffalo Bills. He is finally playing with a team that has to respect his quarterback and passing game. Spiller provides value at the running back position in drafts.
Victor Cruz will benefit with the development of Odell Beckham Jr. The great thing about Cruz is his attitude. He doesn’t carry a Primo Donna attitude with the team as he is willing to lineup in the slot and run patterns over the middle of the field. The Giants moving to a quick strike offense means there will be a lot more targets for Cruz to move the stick and keep drives alive.
Shane Vereen is another Giant who will benefit from the quick strike Giants offense. The running back was vital in the Patriots Super Bowl year in 2014 as the running back was utilized in the passing game as an outlet for Tom Brady. With Beckham Jr. and Cruz in pass patterns it opens up the potential for fantasy points for Vereen drafters.
Matthew Stafford the Lions quarterback could be on the brink of a breakthrough season. Calvin Johnson is the star for the Lions but there are talented weapons around him. Golden Tate has shown improvement each year as a pro. Rookie Ameer Abdullah has the ability to make an impact with the team. Abdullah was a workhorse in his time with Nebraska with his skill to be a dual threat in the run and passing game. Stafford provides good value to fantasy football managers in week one.
Tight end Owen Daniels was relied heavily for targets in the passing game in his time with the Houston Texans. Remember current Denver Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak was Daniels former coach at Houston. Before making a decision on Daniels remember that the Texans did not run efficiently for many years under Kubiak. Virgil Green, the other option in Denver has been typecast as a blocking tight end but has shown signs of improvement in the passing game this preseason. There could be some timesharing between Daniels and Green so put a pass on Daniels for week one.
