August 28 MLB Rundown

Royals vs Red Sox

FanPicks has your August 28 MLB Royals versus Red Sox Sunday Preview. Begin drafting right here!

The Red Sox are hoping Eduardo Rodriguez will pick up right where he left off, as Boston remains behind the leading Blue Jays in a tight American League East race.

The left-hander was scratched from his last start due to tightness in his left hamstring. After a successful bullpen session, Rodriguez reported that he felt good. The southpaw exited his last outing against the Orioles after four no-hit innings. Rodriguez has posted a 2.52 ERA since being recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket.

The defending champion Royals will counter with their 2015 World Series Game 3 pitcher: Yordano Ventura. After a rocky July, when he went 0-4 with a 4.55 ERA, the right-hander turned the page in August, posting a 2.03 ERA in five outings this month. Ventura’s rise has coincided with the rest of his team streaking up the standings, and he is 3-0 with a 1.73 ERA in his last four starts.

Red Sox Player News

Second baseman Dustin Pedroia recorded hits in 11 straight at-bats – one shy of tying the major-league record – before grounding into a double play in the eighth inning on Saturday. First baseman Travis Shaw is the only current Red Sox player to homer against Ventura. Catcher Sandy Leon is 1-for-17 in his last four games, dropping his batting average from .383 to .349.

Outfielder Mookie Betts is hitting .324/.366/.559 with 21 home runs and 73 RBI against right-handed pitching this season, and owns a 1.117 OPS over the last 14 days.

DH David Ortiz is hitting .322/.419/.682 with 26 home runs and 76 RBI against right-handed pitching this season, and owns a 1.097 OPS over the last seven days

Royals Player News

Outfielder Lorenzo Cain is hitless against Rodriguez in his career, going 0-for-6.

Fantasy Baseball Draft Picks

The Major League Baseball is getting  trimmed to eight games on Thurdsday. There will be four early evening game and four evening ones. The Chicago White Sox will look to extend their winning streak seven game in Baltimore. They trail the other Cubs by a single game in the league standings. Speaking of the other Chicago team, they will begin their matchup against the Brewers at two-o-clock and will send the virtually un-hittable Jake Arrieta to the mound. Things couldn’t look any better for manager Don Mattingly. His Miami Marlins will attempt to sweep the series against his former team, the Los Angeles Dodgers. And all of this at Dodger Stadium. They’ll have to face the red hot Kenta Maeda though. Here is the top 20 Fantasy Baseball draft picks. Pick your fantasy baseball team right here.Fantasy baseball

It’s sure is surprising to see Tanner Roark on top of the list. Even more so above Jake Arrieta. Phillies Aaron Nola rounds out the top three pitchers. Dustin Pedroia has seen his stock raise with some stellar play. The second base position is one that usually keeps daily fantasy sports managers guessing. Not this time, since Pedroia is the only secon baseman entering the list. Other lone player leading their position, depending on the list, are Cardinals rookie shortstop Aledmys Diaz and Colorado’s third baseman slugger Nolan Arenado. Tigers outfielder JD Martinez collected a lot of fantasy points yesterday, but has yet to prove that he’s riding on a consistent hot streak. Some of the less expensive options that are driving a solid stretch picks are first baseman Mark Reynold and Freddie Freeman, with outfielders Khris Davis, Ryan Raburn and Joey Rickard. Rounding out the top 20 is the most inexpensive pick Alex Presley from the Milwaukee Brewers.

MLB Fantasy Predictions

The Boston Red Sox aren’t having any difficulties scoring runs this opening week of the regular season. In fact, the Blue Jays’ shaky bullpen has really helped them and it was quite obvious in their spectacular come from behind win this series opener. They will head into this game hoping to remain productive while handing Toronto a 4th straight defeat. Boston took both games of the series so far, including an 8-7 win last night as well as a 8-4 earlier this afternoon. Their 2nd baseman Dustin Pedroia had a solid game, adding 3 hits and 2 RBI for his team. Wellington Castillo also played well with a 2 for 4 contribution on the mound with a run. Hanley Ramirez is another player of note for the Red Sox. He put up 2 hits and an RBI in Friday’s game while adding 2 more RBI and a triple this afternoon.Steven Wright, the right hander will start tomorrow for Boston and it will be his season debut. Wright had a 5-4 record last year in 9 starts with an 4.09 ERA and 52 Strikeouts.
On the other side, Toronto is using Marco Estrada as their starting pitcher tomorrow. Estrada as well is making his season debut but it will be interesting to see if Estrada is fully healthy for this one as he’s coming back from injury.
The Blue Jays shouldn’t have too much issues scoring especially with big hitters such as Jose Bautista, Edwin Encarnacion, Troy Tulowitzki and Josh Donaldson on their team. So far, only Bautista was able to manage an RBI during Saturday’s game. Donaldson also added Along with Donaldson, Bautista had a pair of hits in that matchup.
Even though the Red Sox are 4-1 in their last 5 Sunday games, and 8-1 in their last 9 against the American League East, the Jays are actually 6-0 in their last 6 games after losing their first 2 games of a series. Toronto also has a 9-3 record on their last 12 Sunday games and are favorite in this one to prevent a sweep.

With over a million dollars to win this MLB season at FanPicks, it’s time for you to register right now, right here! Time for the Boston Red Sox Fantasy Baseball Projection:

Boston Red Sox Fantasy Baseball Projection

Year after year, the Boston Red Sox are a team vying for the World Series and nothing else. So when the team falls at the bottom of their division for the past two years, things are bound to change. Things were made very clear when owner John Henry opened up his wallet to lure David Price. Price signed the most lucrative contract by a MLB pitcher ever. Can his arrival help the proud city of Boston get back to the top like they did three years ago, when they were crown 2013 World Series champion?

Players to watch:

  • David Price
  • David Ortiz
  • Mookie Betts

It will be interesting to see how Price can deal with the pressure of improving Boston’s rotation, especially after the fact that lefties are usually struggling at Fenway Park. But not him, he’s been solid throughout his career there with a 1.95 ERA in 11 starts, while holding Red Sox hitters to an .186/261/.289 slash line.

The 40 years-old Ortiz doesn’t act a day his age, he keeps on slugging the ball and leading the charge in Boston. He finished the 2015 season with 37 homers and 108 RBI’s. With the technology to keep more-aged players in good condition nowadays, it would not be surprising to see the same kind of numbers from him this season. “Big Papy” also announced that this would be his final season, so it’s no secret that he categorize as a sentimental fantasy pick.

Mookie Betts has shown signs of greatness in the latter part of the 2015 season. He had a batting average of .311 after the All-Star game, last year. The 23 years-old has the skill sets to become a franchise cornerstone in the Red Sox organization for years to come.

The Boston Red Sox have the commodity of turning their success around in a single season. Never expect a rebuilding year with them, they’re always a treat of taking home the big honors.
