Yankees at Red Sox Preview

The New York Yankees avenged a lopsided result against the Boston Red Sox in the series opener by showing some fight – both literally and offensively – en route to posting just their second win in six contests. After two bench-clearing fracases ratcheted up the tension, the long-time rivals look to keep their emotions in check on Thursday as they reconvene at Fenway Park to play the rubber match of their three-game set.

Giancarlo Stanton answered a 3-for-28 slump during a six-game stretch by recording five hits in the first two contests of this series, including a two-run triple and an RBI single on Wednesday as New York snapped Boston’s nine-game winning streak with a 10-7 triumph. Fellow slugger Gary Sanchez showed signs of snapping out of a 1-for-31 funk by belting a pair of two-run homers to highlight his three-hit performance, although he is just 1-for-8 lifetime versus Thursday starter Rick Porcello. For the Red Sox, Hanley Ramirez launched a solo shot to extend his hitting streak to nine games and increase his RBI total to 12 over his last seven contests. J.D. Martinez bashed Boston’s third grand slam in four days to give him six RBIs in the series and eight in his last four games heading into Thursday’s tilt with Sonny Gray, against whom he is 3-for-7 with one homer and four RBIs in his career.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, MLB Network, YES (New York), NESN (Boston)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Yankees RH Sonny Gray (1-0, 3.60 ERA) vs. Red Sox RH Rick Porcello (2-0, 2.84)

Gray broke into the win column on Saturday despite allowing three runs and four hits in six innings of an 8-3 triumph over Baltimore. The 28-year-old hopes that momentum carries over into Thursday’s contest versus Boston, against which he owns a 1-4 record and 4.93 ERA in six career encounters and an 0-2 mark with a 6.75 ERA in three starts at Fenway. Ramirez (.357) has fared well versus Gray, but the right-hander has kept the red-hot Mookie Betts (.133) under wraps.

Porcello picked up his second straight victory over Tampa Bay on Saturday after overcoming a two-run double in the first to strike out seven over 7 1/3 innings in a 10-3 triumph. The 2016 American League Cy Young Award winner dropped three of four decisions to New York last season to see his career mark versus the club evened at 8-8 with a 3.27 ERA in 18 outings. Jacoby Ellsbury (.353, four homers) and Brett Gardner (.304) have gotten their licks in on Porcello, but the right-hander has handcuffed Aaron Judge (.100).

WALK-OFFS

1. Betts is 16-for-31 with 14 runs scored during his nine-game hitting streak.

2. Gardner is 7-for-16 with six runs scored in his last four contests.

3. Red Sox 3B Rafael Devers is 0-for-8 with four strikeouts in the series.

Fantasy NBA Playoffs

Western Conference Finals Preview

With many fans in the basketball world questioning Golden State Warriors’ title defense without their MVP Stephen Curry full form. However, most of these doubts have been put aside following their commanding route of the Trail Blazers last week in Curry’s heroic 40 pts comeback performance. But one of the main questions all year long was clearly on the capability of San Antonio or OKC’s depth to take on the Warriors in postseason. With the Thunder disposing of the Spurs, all those questions will be answered within the next 2 weeks. This Fantasy NBA Playoffs preview of the Western Conference finals is brought to you by FanPicks. Come play Fantasy Basketball during the NBA playoffs with tons of prizes up for grabs.

Fantasy NBA Playoffs

This will be only the 3rd time that OKC and Warriors meet in the playoffs but never in recent years. But this series is special and you could see it when both teams played back in February 27th in a game that can be referred as the game of the year.

The stakes are completely different now with the Thunder hungrier than ever and the Warriors absolutely wanting to defend their title after a record winning regular season.

Oklahoma has been showing some signs of growth and confidence that we haven’t seen since their 2011-2012 road to the finals before losing to the Heat. This is actually their 4th trip in 6 years to the Conference finals but only made it out to the finals that year.

Golden State swept the Thunder this season 3-0 and with a healthy Curry, it will be extremely difficult for them to upset the defending champions.

With all the last 3 MVPs and NBA scoring champions featuring in this series, all eyes will be set on them to outperform one another. The only difference is that this time, compare to the prior matchups, the Thunder will be having consistent help from Enes Kanter and Steven Adams. Their help in offensive rebounding and solid front court play gave them an edge on the Spurs.

With both of those players playing together 5 minutes against 66 during the semi finals, look out for them to put up some awesome Fantasy points on the board.

Of course the Warriors have Draymond Green and Klay Thompson that could do damage offensively from almost anywhere with Curry’s play making. Andre Iguodala will be a huge defensive piece of the defense puzzle to slow down Durant who averages 36.3 pts against Western Conference opponets.

Fantasy Basketball MVP

Stephen Curry

Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry became the first unanimous NBA fantasy basketball MVP (Most Valuable Player) on Tuesday, winning the prestigious award for a second straight season. Join FanPicks and play fantasy basketball for cash and prizes!! Click to join

Curry swept all 131 first-place votes, consisting of the 130 from a panel of sportswriters and broadcasters and one from the Kia MVP fan vote. San Antonio Spurs forward Kawhi Leonard turned second in the voting, followed by Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James.

A news conference announcing the award is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET on Tuesday in Oakland, California. The Warriors came back there after Monday’s Game 4 win in Portland, where Curry had accumulated 40 points, with 17 coming in overtime.

Curry was an overwhelming favorite to repeat as the league MVP since the Warriors’ record-setting 24-0 start to the season, breaking the previous record for best start to a season by nine wins. They’ve finished the season with a  73-9 mark that eclipsed the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls’ 72-10 record, as the most victorious single-season in NBA history.

Shaquille O’Neal and LeBron James both fell one vote shy of unanimous selection in 2000 and 2013, respectively. Curry joins Tom Brady (2010 NFL MVP) and Wayne Gretzky (1982 Hart Trophy winner) as the only unanimous MVP’s in their respective leagues. There have been 17 unanimous MVPs in MLB history, the latest being Bryce Harper as the NL MVP last season.

Curry is the first player in NBA history, at any position, to average 30 ‎points per game in less than 35 minutes per game over a full season. He also shattered his own single-season record for 3-pointers made with 402. His ‎previous record was 286 last year. The “Golden Boy” joins Steve Nash and his coach, Steve Kerr, as the only players in league history to shoot at least 50 percent from the floor, 45 percent from 3-point range and 90 percent from the line in a single-season.

The 28-year-old is the 11th player to win back-to-back fantasy basketball MVP awards in the NBA’s 70-years existence. James was the last to achieve this feat in 2012 and 2013.

Fantasy Playoffs Basketball Preview

The Raptors have been disappointing this 1st round of playoffs and come in this game pumped, hoping to snap their first round series losing streak. They’re on verge of getting knocked out for the 4th straight time in the first round of NBA playoffs basketball, and it would be such of shame after this record winning regular season and talented squad’s efforts. Unfortunately for the Raptors, their two top players DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry are struggling at the worst potential time. Even though they’ve received some extra surprising efforts from Bismack Biyombo who’s 8 or more boards per game in 4 straight contests could help their resurgence. Defense has been a key indicator in every wins in this series, as the winning team has always scored at least 100 Pts. The Raptors are favorite in this one statically speaking and on paper, however we’ve seen them have ridiculous issues in previous Game 7 matchups.

Indiana has really surprised everyone and rocked the odds in this series. They took care of business on home court and have been playing exceptionally well in defense. A matter fact, they were able to hold Toronto to only 37% shooting from the field and a mere 39 pts in last game’s 2nd half. All of their starters were in double digit scoring figures in their win. Paul George’s playoff comeback has been very effective and his peers Monta Ellis, Myles Turner and George Hill have all stepped up in their nothing to lose approach to the game.

Fantasy Basketball Thunder vs Spurs Game 1 Preview

The 2nd ranked San Antonio pretty much swept the Grizzlies in a commanding fashion as expected. They’re coming off a full week of rest and ready to head back into back after posting their 7th series swept in 9 years. The league’s Defensive Player of the Year, Kawhi Leonard had a tremendous first round. He was not only a threat offensively but was also impressive in the rebounding section, constantly making him a fantasy lineup sure shot. His French peer, Tony Parker was also solid from the field with his mix of speed and dribbling. their big man LaMarcus Aldridge ended up the series on a double-double note and averages 14.5 pts with 8 boards a game. It seems like he’s found his Trail Blazers’ rhythm and fits right in with the Spurs. This could be extremely menacing for the Thunder as well as the defending champions, Golden State Warriors.

The Thunder finished off the Dallas Mavericks this past Monday to end the series in 5 games. This will be the first time that Oklahoma City advances to the Semifinals in 2 years. Russell Westbrook has been putting up MVP numbers this year and even in the series against the Mavs. His sidekick, Kevin Durant is as consistent as it gets. Westbrook finished off Monday with 36 pts, 12 boards and 9 assists and frequently posts near triple double numbers. Durant finished with 33 pts on monday with 7 boards. Durant and Westbrook are ranked 4th and 5th in the postseason scoring race with each averaging around 26 pts. They’ve had some help as well from Steven Adam who recorded a double double too. This will be the first time that both teams meet since 2014 when they lost the series 4-2 against the Spurs in the Conference Finals. The season series is split at 2-2 and this series will be one hell of a show.

Daily Fantasy NBA Basketball Projections

Courtside Watch – April 24th

The NBA playoffs continues with 2 Western conference Game fours and 2 Eastern conference. The Spurs and the Cavs can sweep their series while defending champions Golden State and the Atlanta Hawks can take a commanding 3-1 lead in their series and head home for the game 5. The first matchup sets the record breaking San Antonio Spurs against the Memphis Grizzlies followed by another Western Conference matchup with the Houston Rockets hosting the Warriors. At 5PM, the Atlanta Hawks will be battling the Boston Celtics and hoping to go 3-1 up before Lebron James and his Cleveland Cavaliers will try to sweep the Detroit Pistons. FanPicks is proud to bring you these daily fantasy NBA basketball projections. The top 20 best performers of all 4 games are featured in these fantasy basketball projections, giving you an edge in all our fantasy basketball contests.

Daily Fantasy NBA Basketball Projections

No surprise here when we see Kawhi Leonard taking top spot in this list. He’s been extremely dominant this post season and really carrying with expectations, his San Antonio Spurs. James Harden has the most solid average out of everyone in this list mainly due to the fact that if the Rockets want to remain slightly competitive against the Warriors, Harden will need to show up with his A game every contest, and he’s delivered. Lebron’s consistency is keeping up there in this list as he’s following his typical first round route of any opponents in his lane. James is dominating the 1st round of NBA Playoffs like no NBA player has ever done. He’s yet to lose a game since May 2012 and has never lost a 1st round series! The real stunners of this list are Donatas Motiejunas and Jonas Jerebko. Motiejunas’s game has been quite impressive and complementing Harden’s hard work with Dwight Howard’s seemingly lacking offensive presence. The Lithuanian’s double double last game gave the Rockets many options. On another note, Jerebko’s versatile defense helped spark his teammate Isaiah Thomas’s career high 42 pts and mostly, make this series quite interesting.

MLB Fantasy Baseball
The Giants’ other 2 big additions pitched yesterday to help their 3 game losing streak. Their center fielder Denard Span wast 1 of 4 and Johnny Cueto put in some work in the 8th inning in the 4-3 victory. Their reliever Sergio Romo is injured and won’t be available for the next several weeks while the Giants GM splits the current setup between Hunter Strickland and Josh Osich. L.A managed only 5 hits during Saturday’s loss. Adrian Gonzalez will be a solid source of power for the future.

Samardzija got his 1st win as a Giants on Tuesday when he allowed 2 over 8 innings in a 7-2 win against the Rockies. Chase Utley is 6 for 15 with an HR against the 2014 NL All-Star. He has a 1-2 record with a 4.91 ERA in 4 games against the Dodgers.

Maeda turned in his 2nd strong outing Tuesday by holding Arizona scoreless in 6 innings of play with only allowing 5 hits and striking out 4. Maeda still holds the longest streak in Dodgers’ history to begin a career with his 12 consecutive scoreless innings is the 4th longest in history to begin a career.

Baltimore Orioles vs Texas Rangers

The Baltimore Orioles are going to attempt to continue their outstanding start of the season when they face the Texas Rangers in their 4 game series Saturday night. The highlight of this game will clearly be around the performance of ex Ranger pitcher, Yovani Gallardo. This Fantasy Baseball MLB Preview is brought you by FanPicks. Come play in our MLB Fantasy contests where you can win up to a $1 million this week at FanPicks.

Fantasy Baseball MLB Preview

Yovani Gallardo finished with a 13-11 record with the Rangers last season before signing a huge $22 million dollar contract with Baltimore. The 30 year old Mexican enjoyed quite some success in Arlington, winning 8 of his 14 decisions last year that helped the Rangers into a playoff berth. He’s in 1-0 this year with his new team and was lucky earlier this week with a no decision when he allowed 5 runs and 7 hits in just 5 innings against the Red Sox.

But the Orioles have some serious offensive firepower and it was quite obvious last night when Mark Trumbo, their new off season acquisition went deep twice as he increased his home run total this season to already 5 in his last 5 games 11 RBI on top. Their second baseman Jonathan Schoop also went deep twice last night and has a hit in every game this season but one.

The pitcher for tonight for the Rangers will be Colby Lewis. He picked up his 1st win of the regular season this Monday when he only allowed a run and 4 hits in 6 innings during their 7-3 victory against the Mariners. He also managed to beat the Orioles last time they met but has a 2-4 record overall against them. Their rookie Nomar Mazara is 9 for 23 this season with 4 RBI in 6 contests, while center fielder, Deline DeShields has one homer and is 8 for 17. He has 4 runs scored in his last 4 games.

NBA Playoffs Fantasy Preview

This regular season, the Thunder swept their season series winning all 4 games while scoring at least 108 pts. They’re clearly favorites in this series and it would be quite an upset if they don’t win it in 5 or less games. The great news for them is that they’re much healthier than the past 2 postseasons. The Mavericks as well are getting healthy as well and should expect starts from their important players, Deron Williams and J.J. Barea.

Oklahoma City come into this game lacking perfect form but at least well rested. This will be one of the only The Thunder come into this game lacking good form, but much of that has to do with resting players. This is actually one of the first playoff runs that Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant will be playing together and healthy, making it very promising for Thunder fans. Their offense and rebound strength is the main key to their success as they rank in the top 2 in the NBA for both categories.

The Mavs are heading into these series having won 7 of their last 9 and one of the hottest teams in the league. During that span, their only 2 losses came against the Spurs and the Clippers. What’s really impressive is how their defense has been allowing less than 98 pts in 9 straight games and averaging just under 90 pts against. Unfortunately, their offense led by veteran and future hall of famer Dirk Nowitzki needs to step it up as they rank outside the top 13 in the NBA when it comes down to pts scored, pts allowed, boards per game and assists per game.

The Spurs lost their first home game of the season recently, in a superb matchup against the Golden State Warriors Sunday night. They’ve had an amazing season so far and now have a franchise best 65 wins, despite losing 3 in a row. Their head coach, Gregg Popovich doesn’t care about that and is simply more concerned about having his veterans in good form for the playoffs which start next week. This really looks like a great game on paper but will most likely not really see much superstars playing in this meaningless game. In any case, the Spurs should be a favorite in this game depending on the status of their players.

Oklahoma City come into this game having lost 3 of their last 5 games, with 2 wins coming against extremely weak opponents such as the Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Lakers. The problem is that some of those losses need to be taken in consideration though, as the Thunder has been resting players with their comfortable position in the 3rd spot of the Western Conference. Their offense is still and will always be on point though, as they continue to rank 2nd in scoring, just behind Stephen Curry’s Golden State Warriors. It’s still unclear if the coach will play his top players here or will rest them as this game is simply meaningless game for both teams in terms of playoffs positioning.

Golden State Warriors vs Memphis Grizzlies

Steve Kerr’s Golden State Warriors are still on pursuit of making history as they visit the Memphis Grizzlies Saturday night, trying to seize this once in a lifetime chance to set the record of 73 wins in a season. NBA Fantasy Preview

The Grizzlies just put an end to a 6 game losing streak earlier this week. Unfortunately for them, they went right back to their losing ways last night in their road loss to the Dallas Mavericks, 103-93. They were led by Tony Allen who finished on a 25 pts, 7 boards and 3 steals performance. Big man Zach Randolph added 13 pts with 6 rebounds shooting only 6 of 20 from the field however. Matt Barnes and Jordan Farmer both finished with 11 pts apiece. The Grizzlies should really be careful as they may lose their 5th place in the Western Conference to the Portland Trail Blazers. Even if this game is a tough one, they have to win the last 2 to secure their position. This should be a high scoring game with the Warriors as double digit favorites.

The Warriors continue their quest for 73 wins, despite going 2-2 in their last four match-ups, and spent Thursday night handling the visiting San Antonio Spurs, 112-101. Having lost only two games at Oracle Arena all season, the team was led in scoring by Stephen Curry, who had 27 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists, going 11 of 19 from the field and 3 of 7 from three-point range. Harrison Barnes recorded 21 points and 8 boards, shooting 3 of 7 from beyond the arc, while Draymond Green finished the night with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists, forcing 4 turnovers along the way. Green has started in all but one game for Golden State this season, 13.9 points, 9.6 rebounds and 7.5 assists. The Warriors will see out their season as the number one rated offense in the NBA, dropping an average of 115.2 points on opponents. If the team is going to break the Bulls’ 1995-96 wins record, they will have to get past the Spurs in San Antonio on Sunday night, who are undefeated at home.
