As these two teams enter this series after Game 1 of their doubleheader on Tuesday, the Pirates held a five game lead for home field in the NL Wildcard game against the Cubs with just 19 games left to be played. The loss sent Chicago to their third straight and put them seven games in the loss column back of the St Louis atop the NL Central division. The Cubs chances for a division title look pretty bleak. The Cubs have gotten great pitching this year as they sit sixth in Team ERA (3.56), fifth in WHIP (1.20) and second in Major League Baseball in strikeouts (1247). The hitting has been subpar as the club ranks 30th and last in MLB with a team batting average of .243.

With the Game 1 victory on Tuesday afternoon the Pittsburgh Pirates have moved to two games back of the St Louis Cardinals in the NL Central division. The team has played good baseball as they have won four straight and six of their past seven games. The Pirates have also got great pitching as they are second in the league in Team ERA (3.20) and sixth best in the amount of quality starts from their starting staff (83).

Chicago Cubs 1B: Anthony Rizzo leads the everyday hitters with a .276 batting average with 29 homers and 88 RBIs. He is in a slump as Rizzo looks to break a 4 for 23 slide.

Chicago Cubs 3B: Rookie Kris Bryant has been hot with a .348 batting average over his past seven days. For the year Bryant is batting .269 with 24 homers and 92 RBIs. He has hits in eight of his past nine games.

Sunday Night Baseball features teams with postseason potential as the Pittsburgh Pirates will be hosting the San Francisco Giants. Fantasy baseball draft managers can tune to ESPN TV on Sunday August 23rd at 8PM Eastern Time to track the scoring results of their league roster.

The teams have split the first two games of this series as San Francisco was able to earn a 6-4 victory at Pittsburgh on Friday night. In their first five meetings of the year the Pirates have won four of the five games. The win moved the Giants to two games in the loss column back of the LA Dodgers in the NL West division race. The Giants hitters rank second best in team batting average at .270 to date. In the wildcard race the Giants sit four games back of the Cubs for the final spot.

Pittsburgh is chasing St Louis for the top spot in the NL Central. They are four games in the loss column back of the Cardinals with just 32 games left to be played. The Pirates are eight games up on the Giants for the final NL Wildcard spot. Two NL pennant contenders meet on ESPN Wednesday Night Baseball as the St Louis Cardinals will meet the Pittsburgh Pirates. Fantasy draft managers can tune to ESPN TV on August 12th to follow the scoring results of their rosters.

The St Louis Cardinals have taken Game 1 of this series with the 4-3 home win. St Louis was able to overcome a two run deficit with three fifth inning runs that game them the lead for good. The Cardinals are now five games in the loss column ahead of the Pirates. St Louis sports the top pitching staff in baseball ranking first in Team ERA at 2.61. They do a good job of limiting base runners with a WHIP of 1.20 ranking fourth best.

Pittsburgh with their loss on Monday had their four game win streak snapped. Like the Cardinals the Pirates have gotten good pitching. The club is sitting third in ERA at 3.25 along with 65 quality starts ranking sixth in the league.
