Brooklyn Nets vs New York Knicks
The Brooklyn Nets take on cross-town rival New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday evening (Enter Contest). The Nets will be facing the second night of a back-to-back, which began with a 119-110 home-victory against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday.
ABOUT THE NETS (3-4)
Brook Lopez led the way for the Nets with 26 points. Trevor Booker continued his solid play with 15 points, nine rebounds and three steals, while Sean Kilpatrick added 14 points, five rebounds and three assists, in 28 minutes off the bench. The Nets were missing Jeremy Lin, who remains out with a strained hamstring but had six players score in double figures in a full team effort. The Nets have been a bit of a surprise to start the season but have earned every inch of their success so far with hard work and pose a threat to any opponent.
ABOUT THE KNICKS (2-4)
The Knicks (2-4) will look to earn their second home-win of the season against an opponent that they need to beat if they want to be taken seriously in the East. They have shown flashes this season, with a nice win against the Bulls last Friday but that was followed up with a home-loss against the Jazz on Sunday. The Knicks do have a lot of new faces and deserve more time before they are judged too harshly. Carmelo Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis both tallied 28 points, while Derrick Rose chipped in 18, in the loss versus the Jazz but even with those solid performances they were still out-done. The Knicks will need to tighten the screws on defense as they look to bounce back from losing three of their last four games.
NBA Fantasy Basketball Picks Nets vs Magic
Dominate your competition with our NBA Fantasy Basketball Picks, create the winning lineup at Fanpicks.com. The Brooklyn Nets (21-52) travel to Florida to challenge the Orlando Magic (30-43) at Amway Center.
The struggles are undeniable for Brooklyn, but they have won two of their past three games. The most surprising win of the season for the Nets was in that span, as they conquered LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers 104-95. The loss in that stretch was equally as notable though, as they hung around with the Heat on the road. Even with the nice spell, Brooklyn is still having huge struggles. The Nets had lost nine of 11 before that period of time and there were talks bouncing around about resting Brook Lopez and Thaddeus Young for the rest of the season. That possibility is still likely being discussed, as they need to get some youngsters developed in this ugly situation.
The Magic come into this match-up losing six of their last seven and the once promising season appears to be long gone. It’s the sad truth, considering this team was over .500 half way through the season. The Magic have a plenty to look forward too though, with all the young prospects that they possess. Players like Nikola Vucevic, Elfrid Payton, Victor Oladipo, Aaron Gordon, Mario Hejonja, and Evan Fournier will all progress and grow their skills further. They may very well be a top end threat next season.
The Orlando Magic should actually be a unique favorite here to win.

Fantasy Basketball Daily Picks Nets vs Heat
Dominate your competitions with our NBA Fantasy Basketball Daily Picks Nets vs Heat create the winning lineup at Fanpicks.com. The Brooklyn Nets (21-51) play the host Miami Heat (42-30) at American Airlines Arena.
It’s difficult to get a read on this Brooklyn team, as they come into this game with a reasonable two-game winning streak. What’s even more surprising about those victories is who they came against, as they were versus two Eastern Conference playoff teams. That’s what can be baffling about the Nets, as they have the skill to play with anyone, but always fail to live up to their potential. The biggest problem with this team is the offense, as they hold the 27th spot in league scoring.
The Heat come into this match-up winning three of their last four, with the one defeat coming in expected circumstances. Miami played the powerful Spurs on the road in that one loss. San Antonio hasn’t suffered a loss in their home building all season. The key with the Heat is their defensive acumen, as they rank fourth in points given. Miami will have no issue slowing down this lackluster Brooklyn offense. That should be the difference maker in this game. Watch for Miami to be a double-digit favorite in this game.
NBA Fantasy Basketball Cavaliers vs Nets

Cleveland have come out on top of four of their last five outings to solidify their first place standing in the Eastern Conference, their latest win coming on Wednesday night over the visiting Milwaukee Bucks, 113-104. LeBron James had a team-best 26 points, 8 assists and 6 rebounds to lead a starting five that all recorded double digits in the victory. Kevin Love logged a double-double, putting up 24 points and 10 boards, shooting 8 of 14 from the field and 4 of 10 from downtown, while J.R. Smith contributed 13 points, 4 assists and 3 boards, going 5 of 10 from the paint and 3 of 7 from long range. Smith has started 66 games for the Cavaliers this season, averaging 12.3 points and 2.8 boards along the way, leading the team in three-point attempts with 6.5 per game. The team has lost only six games at Quicken Loans Arena all season.
Losers of seven of their last eight games, the Nets fell 105-100 to the visiting Charlotte Hornets on Tuesday night, dropping to 12-24 at home on the season. Brook Lopez once again lifted the team in defeat with 29 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists, going 11 of 19 from the paint and draining all seven of his attempts from the free throw line. Sean Kilpatrick emerged from the bench with a career-high 25 points, shooting 9 of 12 from the field, 4 of 5 from deep and 3 of 3 from the foul line. Through just 11 games, the sophomore is averaging 13.4 points a night for Brooklyn, and has posted double digits in seven straight games for the club. Bojan Bogdanovich posted 20 points and hauled in 3 boards, going 3 of 5 from long range and and perfect 9 of 9 from the foul line as the Nets remain at 14th place in the East. The team owns a 7-27 record away from home, where they will contest seven of their next ten games.

The Nets are coming back from a tough stretch on the road, having lost 5 of their last 6. What’s really alarming is that the losses came against the some of the worst teams in the league. This game is ending a 9 game stretch where Brooklyn was on the road, recording a 3-6 record. It will be the 6th time they will face off against their old head coach Jason Kidd. Since Kidd’s trade in the summer of 2014, they’ve won only one game against him. The Nets have lost this year already twice to Milwaukee. They will need their offense to show some light since it’s really what’s been killing them, ranking 29th in the NBA in terms of scoring.
The Bucks come into this game hoping the NBA gods will allow them to make a serious run for a playoff berth. They’re on a 2 game winning streak and hoping to pull their 4th win in a row against the Nets. They need a lucky leapfrog of four teams for the 8th spot. They’re only however 6 points away with 16 games left in the season. Greg Monroe has been playing very well since his insertion lately in the starting lineup. They have a lot of potential in the future with excellent young players full of a talent and hard workers like Jabari Parker, Khris Middleton and Giannis Antetokounmpo. The thing they will need to work on if they plan to make a serious run at a playoff bid is their road form. The Bucks have won only 8 games out of 24 away from home this campaign.
Utah Jazz vs Brooklyn Nets – 01/22/16 Preview
The Utah Jazz (18-24) look to establish some consistency on Friday night when they travel to Barclays Center to take on the hapless Brooklyn Nets (11-32). The Jazz are the odd favorites to win (line: -5.5). Here is the projected lineup:
After their loss to the New York Knicks this past Wednesday, the Jazz are now back in 9th place of the wide open Western Conference. The Knicks had the best of the Jazz in OT with a 118-111. Rodney Hood made 5 of 10 three pointers. Gordon Hayward led the Jazz that night with a solid tally of 29 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists while Trey Lyles finished the night with 13 points. Utah has struggled to find consistency this campaign, ranking 25th overall in offence.
The Nets have lost 9 of the last 10 games, the latest at home this past Wednesday night to the Cavaliers, 91-78. The Cavs were coming back from an embarrassing home loss to the Golden State earlier in the week on MLK day and were on fire, despite a solid 16 pts, 10 rebound double-double from Brook Lopez. Thaddeus Young added 14 points while Donald Sloan 12 points. Brooklyn is second last in the league in 3 pts shooting percentage, averaging only 31.8%.

In a NBA finals rematch, the Cavaliers were mugged at Quicken Loans Arena on Monday by the Warriors, 132-98. It was their 2nd home loss of the season. Cleveland was outclassed in every aspect of the game. LeBron James had a subpar performance, with 16 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. He missed all three of his shot attempts from long range. Kyrie Irving looked out of place, scoring a meager 8 points and shooting 3-for-11 from the paint. It was J.R. Smith most of all that made headlines. He had collected 14 points before a flagrant foul saw him ejected from the match-up in the 3rd quarter.
Thing hasn’t gone better for the Nets since the management and coaching shake-up 10 days ago. They have lost 8 out of their 9 last game, with the most recent score being a 112-100 loss to the Toronto Raptors. Brook Lopez led Brooklyn with 29 points and 10 rebounds in the defeat. He also made 13 buckets out of 22 shots attempted. In total, the Nets made only 5 of 14 shots from downtown during the game. They hold a three-points shooting percentage of 32.1%. It’s the 2nd worst rating in the NBA this season. Losing 11 of their last 12 games at Barclays Center and playing against the East leading Cavs does not bid well for the New York team.
MLK Day Special
NBA Preview, Picks & DFS Advice
On this very special day, the NBA has once again gone above and beyond to reflect the appreciation of a nation for a great man and staple of American history. The league has provided fans with a tremendous schedule, including the one battle that defines them all…Curry vs Lebron. Below I will break down the matchups and hopefully, give you some good daily fantasy advice.
Brooklyn Nets (11-30) at Toronto Raptors (25-15) (7:30 pm)
After a full slate of afternoon games, this evening kicks off with the Raptors, winners of four straight hosting the lowly Brooklyn Nets.
This game is a matchup dream for Raptor All-Star hopefuls Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan. A home game on a special day, versus a less than formidable opponent. The pair will make a lot of plays in this one, as the Nets defense isn’t nearly sturdy enough to contain this dynamic duo.
If you’re a streak rider, big man Jonas Valanciunas has been hot of late averaging over 25 DFS points in three of his last four games.
On the Brooklyn side, Brook Lopez is always an option. Albeit recent trade rumours, his tough inside game is often matchup proof as he works hard for his results inside the paint.
Advice: All three Raptors are good options (Lowry, DeRozan and Valanciunas), but I would avoid any Nets other than Lopez.
Golden State Warriors (37-4) at Cleveland Cavaliers (28-10) (8 pm)
There may be no such thing as Monday Night Basketball, but this would be the inaugural event if there ever was one.
Two of the world’s best athletes will be on display tonight as Lebron James and his Cavaliers play host to the incredibly impressive Golden State Warriors. Led by Steph Curry, this Warriors squad has a ton of talent and plays with an equally impressive amount of conviction. Cleveland may be the favourite because they are at home, but Golden State has “championship” written all over them, so King James’ heroics alone may not be enough to earn the Cavs a victory tonight.
If Cleveland wants to win, Matthew Dellavedova will need to play like he did in the NBA Finals last season, as the Warriors seem to bring out the best in 25-year-old guard.
It won’t be an easy task, as Curry has all the lights on him and a chance to show the people who the world’s best player really is.
Advice: Play Curry and Lebron (even if it cripples your cap) as this super-showdown is sure to bring out the best of the best. Don’t be the one “saving money” and watching one or the other put up a historic stat line on this historic day. Dellavedova is a great bargain in exchange.
Houston Rockets (22-20) at Los Angeles Clippers (26-14) (10:30 pm)
Though big names such as Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan (probably) won’t be available for this one, there is still enough star power on both sides to keep fans on the edge of their seats.
James Harden, the league’s favorite beard, is expensive but could be very well worth it. He is a big leader for his team, and in a big matchup he must come through in the clutch. Dwight Howard has seen a revival of sorts and is a fantastic option in this one.
While Griffin and Jordan watch from afar, superstar Chris Paul will do the heavy lifting. Jamal Crawford is a name to watch for. The 35-year-0ld veteran should step-up in Jordan’s absence and get the job done for the Clippers. Another value pick from L.A. is Cole Aldrich who has had back-to-back monster DFS games.
Advice: This late night matchup should be a dandy, and Harden, Howard, Paul and Aldrich should be safe picks.

New York are riding a wave of momentum across town on Wednesday as they have won four of their last five games and are back up to a .500 record. They team showed pressure under duress in Tuesday night’s victory over the Boston Celtics, 120-114, but may have paid a short-term price in an injury concern over their biggest star. Carmelo Anthony left the game after rolling his ankle, this after 7-for-10 shooting for 17 points in just 18 minutes played. Early indications are that Anthony suffered a sprain, with Derek Fisher stating that his status for the match-up with Brooklyn would not be known until shortly before tipoff. Kristaps Porzingis led the Knicks in scoring with 26 points, with 20 points in the first half alone, before fouling out late in the fourth quarter. Rookie Jerian Grant had an impressive 16 points and 8 assists as New York comes into mid-season form in hopes of developing more team chemistry and a Playoff run after the All-Star break next month.
The Nets, meanwhile, have dropped five straight and are still putting the pieces back in place after firing Coach Lionel Hollins on Sunday and promising a marked shift in attitude and culture moving forward. What followed the next night was a 106-79 home court mugging at the hands of the San Antonio Spurs to fall to 6-14 at Barclays Center. The loss marked the tenth straight home defeat for the Nets. Brook Lopez shot 8-for-17 for a team best 18 points while Joe Johnson added 16 points going 6-of-7 from the paint. Johnson also provided Brooklyn their only two three-pointers of the evening, as the unit shot a paltry 16.7% from downtown. The team owns the worst three-point shooting percentage in the NBA, averaging 31.2% per match-up. They also lay claim to the second-worst offense in the league, averaging only 95.2 points per game. The team may want to find a winning home formula fast, as they play six of their next eight contests in Brooklyn, with visitors including the Heat, Thunder and Cavaliers.

The Spurs come into this game with a seven-game winning streak and if they win here, they’ll match a season-high eight-game streak. The defense has been incredible all season, but it’s the offense that’s winning them games recently. They have scored at least 100 points in all eight of those games and are averaging 110 points per game in that span. What’s scary is that they have been regularly sitting starters and still winning games. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see them rest starters once again here, as they come into this game as a 14-point favorite against a Nets team that is falling apart.
Things are not going as expected in Brooklyn right now. Fans thought they would have a dynasty there a few years ago when they traded for all those big names, but they are starting to look like one of the worst teams in the NBA right now. Not only are they one of the worst home teams in the NBA, they come into this game losing four-straight. The recent struggles have caused some major stirs in Brooklyn, thus Coach Lionel Hollins and GM Billy King being fired on Sunday. It’s not just behind the scenes though, as the on-court product is simply not what fans expected. Joe Johnson is looking like a shell of himself and there’s no legitimate point guard on the roster to man the offense with the injury to Jarret Jack. Things are really bad in Brooklyn right now and it’s hard to imagine them getting any better against the Spurs on Monday.

If anything, the Nets will be happy to get away from Barclays Center this weekend, as the team has now dropped nine consecutive games at home. Their latest defeat came in a sloppy Friday night effort against the visiting Magic, where they fell 83-77. True to form, Brook Lopez remained a bright spot for the club, leading in points production with 17 while adding 8 rebounds and shooting 6 of 15 from the field. Joe Johnson added 13 points for a Brooklyn club that is struggling to find anything resembling an offensive rhythm in their 2015-16 campaign, where they rank ahead of only the Memphis Grizzlies and Philadelphia 76ers for third worst offense in the league, averaging only 96.4 points per game. The team returns to their home turf all next week for match-ups against the Spurs, Knicks and Trail Blazers.
The Pistons continue to make their case that they are indeed a Playoff calibre team coming out of the East, where they sit in seventh place following a 99-94 road victory over the Boston Celtics on Wednesday night. Reggie Jackson led Detroit in points with 24 while making 7 of 8 shots from the free throw line. Andre Drummond had 13 points on the night, but the NBA rebound leader had a rather subdued night off the glass with only 5 rebounds. Drummond is averaging a monster 15.7 boards this season. Stanley Johnson had a double-double off the bench with 11 points and 10 rebounds as the Pistons find themselves a vastly improved unit over last year’s lineup. Detroit play San Antonio, Golden State and Chicago all within the next week.

The slumping Magic were 9-6 in November and 10-5 in December, now find themselves win less in 2016 and on a four-game skid. The team had a forgettable home court performance on Wednesday night, falling 96-86 to the Indiana Pacers in an important Eastern Conference match-up. Victor Oladipo led in scoring with 20 points, going 4-for-7 from long range. Oladipo has served his team well since being promoted off the bench to starting point guard earlier in the week. Nikola Vucevic added 17 points, while Evan Fournier put up 13. Elfrid Payton (ankle) has missed two consecutive games for the team and is listed as questionable for Friday’s contest. Orlando’s current losing streak is its longest slide of their 2015-16 campaign.
The Nets were handed their eighth straight defeat at Barclays Center on Wednesday, losing 91-74 to the Toronto Raptors to fall to 6-12 at home. Brook Lopez led the team in scoring, as usual, with another double-double on 24 points and 13 boards. Bojan Bogdanovich had 12 points and Thaddeus Young contributed 11 points and 7 rebounds in a game that saw Brooklyn shoot only 39.7% from the field and connect on five three-point attempts. The 74-point effort was typical of the team’s insipid offense this season, where the rank third-worst in the league, putting up an average of 96.4 points per game. The team faces tough competition in the coming days on the road against Detroit and hosting San Antonio.

The Raptors will look to snap a two-game skid on Wednesday night. Their most recent loss came on Tuesday against the Cavaliers 122-100. Kyle Lowry led the team in the loss with 23 points (7-13 FG, 3-5 3Pt, 6-6 FT), 10 assists, four rebounds, two steals, and a block in 35 minutes. DeMar DeRozan pitched in 19 points (8-15 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 3-5 FT), four assists, and two rebounds in 35 minutes. DeMarre Carroll missed the game due to swelling in his right knee and his status for Wednesday is still up in the air. He missed nine games in December with bruising on the same knee so the Raptors may take it slow with Carroll and make sure he is 100 percent healthy before letting him take the court again. The Raptors have dropped their past two games against the Nets, but they have yet to play this season.
After defeating the Celtics to open the New Year, the Celtics were out for revenge in their rematch just two days later on Monday night, defeating the Nets 103-94. Thaddeus Young led the way for the Nets in the loss with 23 points (9-18 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 3-4 FT), 15 rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and a steal in just under 38 minutes. Joe Johnson pitched in 21 points (8-15 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 3-4 FT), six rebounds, and four assists in 35 minutes. During Monday’s game Johnson bruised his right quad and is listed as questionable for Wednesday. Rookie Chris McCullough sat out of Tuesday’s practice due to an illness while also nursing a knee injury. Head coach Lionel Hollins said McCullough is essentially “redshirting” the season. The Nets are endanger of losing their eighth straight game at home on Wednesday night.
