Blue Jays vs Royals

The Toronto Blue Jays have won three games in a row and eight of 11 to pull within a single percentage point of the number one spot in the American League East. The surging Blue Jays look to continue their torrid stretch, opening a three-game series versus the reeling Kansas City Royals.

Braves vs Cardinals

The St. Louis Cardinals are getting healthy but are looking for a push in their battle for a National League wild-card spot against the Atlanta Braves. Leadoff hitter Matt Carpenter is expected to participate in the opener after missing 29 games with a strained right oblique. They’ve already had backup earlier this week, when infielders Jhonny Peralta and Brandon Moss came off the disabled list.

Marlins vs Rockies

The Miami Marlins have had a day off to recover from a catastrophic defeat and will try to turn things around against Colorado Rockies. The Marlins kicked off their six-game road trip with three straight losses to the Chicago Cubs, none as bad as Wednesday’s 5-4 defeat.

Brewers vs Diamondbacks

The Arizona Diamondbacks want to end a disappointing run of pitching performances. They’ll host the Milwaukee Brewers for the next few day’s in three-game series set. The bottom-place Diamondbacks have given up 46 runs during a four-game losing streak. Their opponents, on the other hand, recorded nine tallies per contest over the last seven.

Cubs vs Athletics

Chicago Cubs shortstop Addison Russell once dreamed of playing at Oakland Coliseum. Dream will become a reality for him when his squad begin a three-game interleague series against the Oakland Athletics. A former A’s prospect, Russell has blossomed into a key player for the major league-best Cubs. Chicago has now four straight victory and won seven of their last eight.

Red Sox vs Dodgers

The Boston Red Sox are set on closing out a 11-game West Coast trek with a winning record. They will be begin a three-game series against the host Los Angeles Dodgers. Boston is 4-4 on the trip. Versatile Brock Holt delivered the tiebreaking RBI single in the 11th inning of Thursday for a 3-2 victory over Seattle, which split even the four-game series.

Angels vs Mariners

The Seattle Mariners are seeking to make up ground in the American League wild-card race. They are entering a stretch in which seven of their following 13 games are against the soaring Los Angeles Angels. Seattle is just 2-4 versus the Angels this season and Los Angeles is a 12-7 since the All-Star break.

Phillies vs Padres

Philadelphia’s Jeremy Hellickson was a prime candidate to be moved prior to Monday’s trade deadline, but the veteran right-hander will be staying around after-all. He’ll take the ball in Friday’s three-game series opener against the Padres in San Diego. Hellickson stretched his unbeaten streak to three starts (2-0) despite giving up three runs and nine hits in 5 2/3 innings of a 9-5 victory in Atlanta on Saturday.

Daily Fantasy Baseball News

FanPicks (click to play) breakdowns Thursday early MLB daily fantasy baseball news!

Los Angeles Angels win third straight

Albert Pujols and C.J. Cron each batted in runs in support of starter Hector Santiago and the Los Angeles Angels. L.A. has disposed of the Tampa Bay Rays 5-1 Thursday afternoon. Pujols opened up the scoring with a single off of rookie Blake Snell (1-4) in the sixth inning . Cron followed up with a groudout that turned into a throwing error by second baseman Logan Forsythe. One more run came in to score on the play that could’ve been a double play and ended the inning. The Halo’s have added two more runs in the eight inning when when Cron pulled a sacrifice fly when bases where loaded. They pulled off a double steal to the perfection with Mike Trout stealing home and Pujols grabbing third base.

The Rays have lost 19 of their previous 22 games. The Angels, on the other hand, have won their last three, their longest stretch in over two month. Santiago (6-4) gave up three hits in seven innings of work. The lefty brought is month of July record up to 8-1 since having been acquired by the Angels in 2014. He allowed four walks and struck out nine on the side.

Piscotty halts Pirates streak to seven

Stephen Piscotty knocked a three-run home run. Randal Grichuk clubbed one out too. Those two homers was all it took for the St. Louis Cardinals to defeat the Pittsburgh Pirates 5 to 1 Thursday. They avoid a four game series sweep, as well as put an end to the Bucs seven game winning streak.

Adam Wainwright (8-5) worked seven innings for the Cards win. They take over the National League Central division second spot in the process. Unfortunately for St. Louis, all-star third baseman Matt Carpenter  joins Brandon Moss and Brayan Pena on the 15 day disabled-list Thursday morning. The eleventh Piscotty long ball against pitcher Arquimedes Caminero was object to video review, but was eventually confirmed as a home run.

Pirates starter Tyler Glasnow (0-1) gave up four runs in five-and-one-third innings in his major leagues debut. The 22 year old righty was the eleventh starter used by Pittsburgh this season. Like Steven Brault earlier in this series, Glasnow hit his first career MLB ball.

Fantasy Draft Baseball Notables

  • You can expect Phillies first baseman Tommy Joseph to be back in the lineup. Ryan Howard started Tuesday and Wednesday, but Howard went 0-for-3 with three strikeouts Wednesday against the Cubs. Joseph has supplanted Howard as the team’s primary first baseman, hitting .311 (19-for-61) with two doubles, five home runs and eight RBIs in 19 games.
  • Rangers catcher Robinson Chirinos was activated from the 60-day disabled list Thursday. He had missed the past 53 games with a right forearm fracture.
  • Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre was not in the lineup for Thursday’s game against the Astros, and he was set to be re-evaluated after leaving Wednesday’s game with a tight left hamstring.
  • San Francisco catcher Buster Posey, who hasn’t played since Saturday in St. Louis due to nerve irritation in his right thumb, could be back behind the plate just in time for game 1 of the Dodgers/Giants 3 game series .

Cash Draft MLB Notables

  • Houston Astros pitcher Colin McHugh will take the mound against the Texas Rangers. Since Aug. 1, 2014, only Jake Arrieta (35), Clayton Kershaw (32) and Zack Greinke (32) have won more games than McHugh (31).
  • The Pirates are scheduled to play five games in four days over approximately 78 hours against three teams. That stretch began with a doubleheader against the Mets on Tuesday and will end as the team returns to Pittsburgh for a three-game series with the Cardinals on Friday.
  • New York Yankees outfielder Carlos Beltran notched his third home run in as many days on Wednesday.
  • Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Jose Bautista is two home runs shy of No. 300 for his career.
  • Mets  plan to use the four-game series in Milwaukee as an opportunity to give four of his regulars a day of rest each. First up is slumping left fielder Michael Conforto, who will sit out Thursday against Jimmy Nelson.
