Pirates vs Phillies
The Pirates will need to provide a little more offense to help their rookie pitcher Steven Brault against the Phillies. The youngster got only five runs from his teammates in his first five big league starts. He drew solid outings in his past three games and looks to continue his stretch on the road. Along with Jameson Taillon and Chad Kuhl, Brault is the third rookie currently in Pittsburgh rotations.
Orioles vs Red Sox
The two best hitting teams will put their best pitchers on the mound in this one. Baltimore will go with Kevin Gausman, who’s received at least five run support in three of his last five start. American League Cy Young contender Rick Porcello will be Boston’s weapon of choice for the matchup. He’s been even more rewarded than his counterpart, getting at least 10 runs support in four of his last five outing.
Marlins vs Braves
Things are not looking good for the Brave today. They will need to contend with one of the hottest pitcher in MLB right now, Jose Fernandez. His most recent performance was phenomenal, as he struck out 14 against the National League West leading Los Angeles Dodgers. it was his third 14 strikeout performance this season. Fernandez has a 3.65 ERA in four career starts at Turner Field. He gave up a career-high 9 runs in his last start at the Ted.
Brewers vs Reds
A sweep of the Brewers could be on the horizon for the Reds at Great American Ball Park. Despite top basestealer Billy Hamilton missing from that matchup for the Reds, second best speedster, Milwaukee’s Jonathan Villar, will be there. Villar has 54 steals this season and is 4 behind Hamilton. The Brewers shortstop is also shredding it with power this season. He posted his 16th home run on Tuesday.
Twins vs Tigers
The Tigers have the opportunity to gain ground in the American League Central and Wild Card Standing, as they continue their series versus the worst team in baseball, the Minnesota Twins. Detroit failed to win against them on Tuesday. It will now be on Anibal Sanchez to bring them to a victory. The hurler is in need of a good outing if he want to stay in the rotation when Jordan Zimmerman comes back from injury.
Athletics vs Royals
This will be the first time that A’s left-hander Sean Manaea will start against the organization that drafted him back in 2013. The Royals, on the other hand, will try to focus and get back into the post-season race. The fell the first two game of the series against Oakland and can’t afford to lose a third. They are trailing the Baltimore Orioles by five games in the American League Wild Card race.
Fantasy Baseball Detroit Tigers Projection
For the upcoming 2016 Major League Baseball season, FanPicks take a look at every single team and what are their expectations for the upcoming year. Time to see what the American League Central Detroit Tigers have been up to this off season. This is your Fantasy Baseball Detroit Tigers Projection.
The Detroit Tigers fell hard last season. They were atop the A.L. West for four straight year and had a World Series appearance before finishing dead last in 2015. New management wasted no time to change the dynamics with the arrival of pitcher Jordan Zimmerman and outfielder Justin Upton. Meanwhile, prospects netted from the Price and Cespedes trades are likely to start making an immediate impact this season. This could bring new life to a team that was decimated with injuries.
Players to watch
The Tigers turned a potential problem area into a position of strength with the signing of Justin Upton in January to play left field. Upton has averaged 27.3 home runs over the last three years and he also adds another base runner to the lineup.
Detroit will look for more of the same from Ian Kinsler next season as he had a solid 2015. His fantasy value is not as high as it used to be thanks to the drop in his power and speed numbers, but hitting atop one of the best lineups in baseball has its perks.
Barring anything unforeseen, veteran ace Justin Verlander appears set to make his eighth Opening Day start in nine years on April 5, following a second-half resurgence in 2015 that had onlookers recalling vintage Verlander.
The Detroit Tigers do have a chance to compete for the division, but the world champion Royals will be there again and the Indians look ready to contend with their elite pitching staff as well.
