The Wildcard round of the NFL playoffs get underway with the Houston Texans hosting the Kansas City Chiefs. One day fantasy league GM’s can tune to ESPN TV on Saturday January 9th at 4:35PM Eastern Time to track the results of their real money roster picks.
These teams have a history during the 2015 campaign as they met in Week 1 with Kansas City earning the 27-20 victory on the road. Houston did outgain the Chiefs and that was due in part to a pick six interception return for the Chiefs. KC built up a 27-9 halftime lead and was held scoreless in the second half. Alex Smith passed for 243 yards and three touchdowns in the victory. Brian Hoyer was benched in this game. He threw for 236 yards hitting on 18 of 34 passes with a touchdown and pick.
Kansas City has closed the season strongly winning ten straight games. This came before a five game losing streak as the Chiefs opened the year at 1-5 as their offense sputtered. The Chiefs have the 30th ranked passing attack and are sixth in rushing offense. The defense has carried Kansas City as they rank third in the NFL in scoring defense by allowing 17.9 points per game.
Houston was the winner of a weak AFC South division. They closed the year with three straight victories including a clutch 16-10 road win at Indianapolis which put the Texans in control of the division. The Texans rank near the middle in most offensive categories. The defense has been outstanding down the stretch for the Texans that it moved the team to number three in yardage allowed by giving up 310 yards per game.

His passing numbers have been futile in recent weeks. Smith has thrown for 191 yards or fewer over his past five games all against losing teams. Alex Smith has not had success in the post season.

They have met the past two seasons all resulting in low scoring games. Last year Cincinnati earned the 22-13 victory on the road to the Texans. Houston is 3-5 on the year but because of a down season in the AFC South they are in a tie with the Indianapolis Colts atop the division. They have been on the losing end of some ugly defeats this year with a 48-21 defeat at Atlanta and a 44-26 road defeat at Miami. On offense the team has had trouble sustaining their run game as they rush for 88 yards per game which is 29th in the league. Houston comes off a bye week and defeated Tennessee two weeks ago by the score of 20-6. Texans are 1-3 on the road this season.

The week prior they held the Steelers to just ten points in their win. The team has been outstanding on both sides of the ball. They are third in the league in scoring offense by averaging 28.6 points a game. On the defensive side of the football the Bengals are surrendering just 17.8 points per game which is fourth best in the NFL.
Houston Texans QB:

In the win against Tennessee Hoyer completed 65% of his passes for 235 yards with two touchdowns. In the blowout loss at Miami the Texans put up a lot of second half garbage yards which resulted in 273 passing yards with three touchdowns and a pick thrown by Brian Hoyer. A positive for Hoyer is the fact he has thrown for multiple touchdown passes over his past five games with two three touchdown pass performances mixed in there.

The Houston Texans will be at home facing the Indianapolis Colts from Thursday Night Football. NFL fantasy GM’s can tune to CBS TV on October 8th at 8:30PM Eastern Time to follow the results of their roster picks.
The Colts are a 2-2 football team after back to back wins. They victories came against AFC South teams and were close results. In week three the team defeated Tennessee 35-33 and won because they successfully defended a two point conversion late in the game. With Andrew Luck out last week the Colts edged the Jaguars 16-13 at home in the overtime period. The Indianapolis run game didn’t get going with just 60 yards on 24 carries. They struggled in the red zone with just 1 of 4 conversions in the game. Andrew Luck is expected to play on Thursday night. Matt Hasselbeck in his start last week threw for 282 yards and a touchdown going 30 of 47 passing. Indianapolis has had trouble scoring this season as they push across just 18 points a game ranking 26th in the league.
It has been a disappointing year for the Houston Texans. The team is 1-3 with their lone win a 19-9 victory against Tampa Bay in week three. Last week was a bad one for Houston as they get crushed at the Atlanta Falcons by the score of 48-21. The Texans fell behind 28-0 at the half then it was 42-0 after three quarters. Houston committed four turnovers in the loss and took none from the Falcons. Brian Hoyer replaced Ryan Mallett and threw two touchdown passes after the game was no longer in doubt by the fourth quarter.
Indianapolis Colts QB:
The Colts starting quarterback has told reporters he expects to play on Thursday. He is completing 56% of his throws this year for 753 yards with five touchdowns and seven picks. The offensive line has not blocked well for Luck on the year.
Indianapolis Colts RB:
The veteran running back leads the Colts by far in carries with 54 on the year with 227 yards and two touchdowns. He is averaging 4.2 yards a carry on the season. He rushed for just 53 yards last week against Jacksonville on 17 carries for 3.1 yards per run.

This is a sore spot for the Texans coaching staff. Brian Hoyer was the opening week starter and lost his job to Ryan Mallett after week one when Houston dropped a home game to Kansas City. Mallett has hit on 51.8% of his throws for 720 yards with three touchdowns and two picks.
Houston Texas RB:

Green Bay Packers versus Chicago Bears Fantasy Preview
The Green Bay Packers have lit up the scoreboard the last three meetings with the Bears. In their two meetings in 2014 the Packers put up 38 points in Chicago and the return meeting over two months later saw Green Bay put up 55 points on the Bears defense. The Packers have thrown for over 300 yards in three straight meetings with Chicago.
The Bears have had success in the past rushing the football on Green Bay. With defensive minded head coach John Fox now at the helm he may try to be a bit more balanced with his attack on the Packers defense. The game held in Chicago saw the Bears pile up 235 yards on the ground.
Green Bay Packers WR:
James Jones was signed to a one year contract for the league minimum. One of Aaron Rodgers main targets in Jordy Nelson has been lost for the season and the Packers are looking for depth.
Randall Cobb suffered a shoulder injury in the preseason and is expected to play on Sunday. Cobb had played well against the Bears in their two meetings last year as he caught three receiving touchdowns with 185 yards combined in the home and away contests.
Green Bay Packers QB:
Aaron Rodgers threw ten touchdown passes in the two games against Chicago last year for a combined 617 yards. He completed a combined 40 of 55 throws.
Chicago Bears QB:
Jay Cutler is turnover prone. In his two games against the Packers in 2014 he threw for 528 yards combined with three touchdowns and four picks. With John Fox now as the head coach he may choose to run more.
Chicago Bears RB:
Matt Forte may have a different role with the Bears this year. Marc Trestman was a pass heavy head coach while under John Fox there may be more rushing attempts for Forte. He caught 102 passes in 2014 which was a league high. He ran for 4.6 yards a carry in 2013.
Chicago Bears WR:
Alshon Jeffery has a calf injury and has been reacting positively to treatment. He is listed as questionable for Sunday. In his two games against the Packers last year Jeffery combined for ten catches for 102 yards with one touchdown and he committed his only fumble of the season.
Kansas City Chiefs versus Houston Texas One Day League Draft Preview
It will be the first meeting in two years between these teams. In the 2013 campaign the Chiefs edged the Texans 17-16 at home.
Kansas City Chiefs QB:
Alex Smith will have a capable target in the passing game as the team signed Jeremy Maclin the former Philadelphia Eagle in the offseason. Smith had no touchdown passes to a wide receiver last year. They also added promising rookie Chris Conley. Andy Reid is run heavy so Smith may not have the opportunities to score hefty fantasy points.
Houston Texas RB:
Arian Foster underwent groin surgery during the offseason and is out indefinitely.
Alfred Blue will get an opportunity in his second season to increase his workload. Blue has some good runs outside the 20 during the preseason. He is not very good in short yardage and red zone situations.
Cleveland Browns versus New York Jets What Fantasy Draft Managers Need to Know
The last meeting between the Browns and Jets was in 2013 with New York winning at home 24-13. Two weak offenses from 2014 meet and this could be a very low scoring game.
Cleveland Browns QB:
Josh McCown gets the start but has a weak corps of receivers with Brian Hartline and Dwayne Bowe. The Browns ran poorly last year and provided no help to the passing game. McCown is backup quality and inserted as a starter because there are no other options for this team.
New York Jets QB:
With Geno Smith getting sucker punched by a teammate and out for at least four weeks the starters job will be veteran’s Ryan Fitzpatrick. The Jets upgraded the wide receiver corps with Brandon Marshall out wide with Eric Decker. The question is will the head coach Todd Bowles have enough faith in Fitzpatrick to be anything other than a game manager.
