August 14 Fantasy Baseball Preview

Cardinals vs Cubs

The Cubs took the first two games before the Cardinals won 8-4 on Saturday to snap Chicago’s 11-game winning streak on a come from behind victory Saturday. The Cubs still have a huge 13-game lead over the St. Louis Cardinals in the National League Central.

Mike Leake will have the start for the Cards (8-9, 4.79 ERA, 96 K). After allowing 19 earned runs over his last 3 starts, Leake has the ability to complete a quality start, with his last time out seemed like he was stepping in the right direction. He did however walk a season (4 walks) and recorded no strikeouts for the first time this year, but is outing against the Angels was solid over 8 innings. Right handed hitters are batting .195 against him this season and he’s 1-1 with a 2.70 ERA in 3 starts against the Cards this season.

Right-hander John Lackey (9-7, 3.56 ERA) will take the mound for the Cubs and try for his fifth straight quality start. He allowed three hits and one run in eight innings in a 5-1 victory over the Los Angeles Angels in his last start Tuesday. Lackey is 1-1 with a 2.70 ERA this season in three starts against the Cardinals, his only starts against his former team. He went 16-13 with a 3.10 ERA in 43 starts with St. Louis in 2014-15.

The Cardinals will be looking for a leadoff hitter now that Matt Carpenter is batting third in the absence of Matt Holliday, who sustained a broken thumb when he was hit by a Mike Montgomery pitch Thursday. Greg Garcia went 0-for-5 batting leadoff Saturday, when Holliday went on the disabled list. Carpenter was 2-for-5 with three strikeouts.

Though well behind the Cubs in the division, the Cardinals (61-56) remain in the mix for a wild card spot. The Cubs are 6-6 against St. Louis this season.

Fantasy NBA Basketball Playoffs Game 7 Preview

Well this is it. The ultimate and last game of the 2015-2016 in the best possible win or go home scenario any NBA fans could imagine. This Fantasy NBA Basketball Playoffs Game 7 Preview is brought you by FanPicks where you can participate in the only available Fantasy Cross Sports contests. Will the Cavs go for a 3rd win in a row in the tough Oracle arena this Sunday or it
The suspense and intensity nearing this matchup couldn’t get any higher. Will the Golden State Warriors find a way to end the Cavaliers momentum and scare of being the first team in NBA Finals history to bust a 3-1 advantage? Or will the Cavaliers be able to make an historic comeback and shut down many critics by winning its first ever title?

The pressure is immense for both teams but a defeat, despite having an exceptional record breaking season for the Golden State Warriors will be a dagger in their heart.

On another note, this is the closest Cleveland fans have come to a championship in 52 years. The city championship drought in all sports can come to an end of the Cavaliers keep the same momentum they’ve had the past 2 games.

The Warriors however have been on the brink of winning a back to back championship for 2 games in a row and the pressure in not becoming the team who blew a 3-1 lead in NBA Finals after exceeding expectations all year long.

This will be none other than a classic matchup between the 2 NBA super stardoms, Lebron James and Stephen Curry. The past 2 games have been very different from the previous 3, with shots not falling for the defending champs at the same rate as the regular season and most of the postseason.

All Warriors have expressed the extreme disappointment they’d feel if they were unable to as champs, so look for them to come out focus and flying today.

Despite Curry putting 30 pts in Game 6, James poured in 41 pts for the 2nd straight contest. This ecstatic performance made Lebron joined the elite group of Jerry West, Michael Jordan, Rick Barry and Shaquille O’Neal as the only players ever to score 40 more points in consecutive games.

However, for the Cavs, the real threat comes not only from the Splash Brothers Curry and Thompson, but dominance from Draymond Green and the bench at times makes it an heavier task to overcome.

The Warriors definitely know all about overcoming a 3-1 deficit after defeating miraculously the Thunder in the Western Finals in 7 games. The composure and output from everyone on the team is critical at this point.
The bench has to perform the same way they did all throughout the season as well as early playoff games to stop the Cavaliers at this rate. With Draymond Green missing game 5 and Andrew Bogut out on a season adversity, Steve Kerr’s squad will have to play like champions to retain their crown and put an end to the Cavaliers’ tenacy and hunger for a win.

Look for this game to be a tight game but with the Warriors taking advantage of their depth and home court advantage to finish off a spectacular year.

NBA Finals Fantasy Game 1 Recap

Cleveland Cavaliers vs Golden State Warriors

The Cleveland Cavaliers and the Golden State Warriors began their NBA Finals rematch this past thursday at the Oracle Arena. With the Cavaliers coming into this game with the best postseason record thus far (12-2) and outscoring opponents by a combined 177 pts, Game 1’s result was quite a surprise and unusual for NBA Fans.

Not only that the season record breaking Golden State Warriors took game 1 to the Cavaliers, 104-89,  in comfortable fashion, the fact that Stephen Curry and and Klay Thompson struggled throughout the game will raise many questions to the Cavs.

The response from the bench when both Splash Brothers were unable to make their presence felt was nothing but astounding.

Shaun Livingston put up some impressive numbers in game 1 with a career playoff high of 20 pts. He went 8 for 10 from the field with 4 boards and 3 assists.

The Cavaliers just couldn’t cope with the Warriors’ reserve unit which outscored their opponent’s bench 45-11.

Leandro Barbosa’s 11 pts and Andre Iguodala’s tough defense against the Lebron James were quite impressive.

Iguodala, last season’s NBA Finals MVP definitely picked up where he left off against the Cavaliers’ large forward. He made James do a number a mistakes and bad shots. He was able to also to contribute offensively with 12 pts with 7 boards and 6 assists. The size advantage of James on Iguodala is quite huge and its hard to believe how well the Warriors’ player is coping with it without drawing many fouls. A mix of experience and smart defending is key in his matchup to slow down James’ dominance in the game.

The Cavaliers only shot 33% from long range and 38% from the field but its really the cold streak of certain of their players that stepped up in the early series.

With the Warriors extremely difficult to beat at the Oracle Arena, the key games the Cavaliers should be focusing on winning are games 3 to 5. This could shift momentum in the series and keep them on pace for what could maybe be a 7 game series.

Stanley Cup Preview

NHL Hockey playoffs doesn’t get any bigger than this. Game 1 of this exciting Stanley Cup finals featuring the San Jose Sharks against the Pittsburgh Penguins will begin Monday at 8PM EST at the Consol Energy Center. This series has the potential to be an instant classic with the Penguins being a much different team than during the regular season and the Sharks ‘ red hot offense peaking at the best moment. Don’t miss out on this Fantasy NHL Hockey Stanley Cup Preview brought to you by Fanpicks, where you can win millions in cash prizes during the NHL Playoffs.

Fantasy NHL Hockey

Both of these teams have been playing at their best during those playoffs with players showcasing great talent and consistency. The regular season series is split with each tream winning a game apiece but not much history against one another.

For the Pens, it will be their first time back in the Finals in 7 years since winning the title in a 7 game nailbiting series against the Red Wings back in 2009. With only a few of the championship cast remaining such as Crosby, Malkin, Kunitz, Letang and goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury, Pittsburgh as an edge of experience compare to the Sharks. On top being there at the biggest stage, the Penguins speed is nothing like any other team San Jose has faced during the playoffs thus far. Many weapons the Pens possess in offense can hurt the Sharks if they don’t step it up physically. They’re led by Phil Kessel (18 pts) who has 6 goals in his last 9 playoffs games. It will be Sidney Crosby’s 3rd appearance in  the finals.

The Sharks will hope that Marc-Edouard Vlasic shuts continues his tremendous defensive work and shuts down as much of the Penguins’ top forwards. The Pens will definitely have a tougher time penetrating through the Sharks but as the series progress.

San Jose will be making its first ever appearance in a Stanley Cup Finals in franchise history. Only 2 players on their rosters have made it to the finals in their careers. Suprisingly, neither their veterans Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau have had the chance to make it to the cup.

They will rely on their cut throat offense that boasts a whopping average of 3.5 goals a game. 4 of the postseason top 5 scorers are Sharks players and their top 2 lines are nearly impossible to contain consistently.

This will be one of the most compelling and interesting Stanley Cup finals in recent years and we hope you’re as excited as we are for this series. Don’t forget to sign up for free and  BANK BIG this Stanley Cup with our Cross Sports and NHL Contests.

Fantasy NBA Playoffs

Western Conference Finals Preview

With many fans in the basketball world questioning Golden State Warriors’ title defense without their MVP Stephen Curry full form. However, most of these doubts have been put aside following their commanding route of the Trail Blazers last week in Curry’s heroic 40 pts comeback performance. But one of the main questions all year long was clearly on the capability of San Antonio or OKC’s depth to take on the Warriors in postseason. With the Thunder disposing of the Spurs, all those questions will be answered within the next 2 weeks. This Fantasy NBA Playoffs preview of the Western Conference finals is brought to you by FanPicks. Come play Fantasy Basketball during the NBA playoffs with tons of prizes up for grabs.

Fantasy NBA Playoffs

This will be only the 3rd time that OKC and Warriors meet in the playoffs but never in recent years. But this series is special and you could see it when both teams played back in February 27th in a game that can be referred as the game of the year.

The stakes are completely different now with the Thunder hungrier than ever and the Warriors absolutely wanting to defend their title after a record winning regular season.

Oklahoma has been showing some signs of growth and confidence that we haven’t seen since their 2011-2012 road to the finals before losing to the Heat. This is actually their 4th trip in 6 years to the Conference finals but only made it out to the finals that year.

Golden State swept the Thunder this season 3-0 and with a healthy Curry, it will be extremely difficult for them to upset the defending champions.

With all the last 3 MVPs and NBA scoring champions featuring in this series, all eyes will be set on them to outperform one another. The only difference is that this time, compare to the prior matchups, the Thunder will be having consistent help from Enes Kanter and Steven Adams. Their help in offensive rebounding and solid front court play gave them an edge on the Spurs.

With both of those players playing together 5 minutes against 66 during the semi finals, look out for them to put up some awesome Fantasy points on the board.

Of course the Warriors have Draymond Green and Klay Thompson that could do damage offensively from almost anywhere with Curry’s play making. Andre Iguodala will be a huge defensive piece of the defense puzzle to slow down Durant who averages 36.3 pts against Western Conference opponets.

Western Conference Finals Preview

And then there were two. The Stanley Cup Finals are quickly approaching and amidst all the drama of the semi-finals where upsets and stunners have been raining through many overtime sessions, the St. Louis Blues will face the San Jose Sharks in an epic Western Conference Final. Those two teams have made fantasy hockey players extremely happy with great bang for your buck lineups as you can imagine. Don’t miss out on this NHL Fantasy Hockey Western Conference Finals Preview brought to you by Fanpicks, where you can win millions in cash prizes during the NHL Playoffs.

NHL Fantasy Hockey Western Conference Finals Preview

For Blues and Sharks fans, this has been a huge relief after many years of great regular season action halted by sudden surprising upset knockouts in the playoffs. This will be the first time the Blues make it to the Conference finals in 15 years, giving them a chance to break their almost half a century spell and make it to the Stanley Cup finals.

What’s impressive is the way these 2 teams made it so far in the postseason.

First off with the Blues, who took down one of the most prominent dynasty in recent years, the Chicago Blackhawks in a nailbiting 7 game series. After winning that one, some players really stepped up like their usual 40 goal scorer Vladimir Tarasenko but got surprising help from their centers, Robby Fabbri and David Backes. Jaden Schwartz also stepped heavily but it was truly their series against the Dallas Stars that showed their resilience. With so many weapons, this Blues team was a delight for fantasy hockey players but their physique and solid game is what brought them all the way to game 7 against the dangerous Stars. Their Coach Ken Hitchcock led his team’s awkwardly good composure which destabilizes their opponents. Pure fundamentals and this is what get you to the cup. However, their fatigue with back to back 7 game series could potentially open a crack in their game.

The San Jose Sharks, a team picked by so many in previous years to win it all as well, not only due to their consistent regular season presence but depth in their lineup. They have speed and a lethal power play that could make a difference in this series once more since the Blues take a lot of penalties. With skillful player like Thornton, Pavelski, Marleau and Brent Burns with a red hot Logan Couture, they’re favorites to take this one. Fantasy hockey lineups will be full of sharks players the next 2 weeks but beware of their depth. Their goalie Martin Jones continues to prove himself but can he take a team to the cup? That’s the big question.

This will be the Sharks’ 4th time in a conference finals since 2004 after missing the playoffs this past campaign.

We hope you’re as excited as we are for this series and will keep you updated with the daily NHL TOP performers to help you BANK BIG these NHL Playoffs in our Magic Million Contests.

Fantasy Basketball MVP

Stephen Curry

Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry became the first unanimous NBA fantasy basketball MVP (Most Valuable Player) on Tuesday, winning the prestigious award for a second straight season. Join FanPicks and play fantasy basketball for cash and prizes!! Click to join

Curry swept all 131 first-place votes, consisting of the 130 from a panel of sportswriters and broadcasters and one from the Kia MVP fan vote. San Antonio Spurs forward Kawhi Leonard turned second in the voting, followed by Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James.

A news conference announcing the award is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET on Tuesday in Oakland, California. The Warriors came back there after Monday’s Game 4 win in Portland, where Curry had accumulated 40 points, with 17 coming in overtime.

Curry was an overwhelming favorite to repeat as the league MVP since the Warriors’ record-setting 24-0 start to the season, breaking the previous record for best start to a season by nine wins. They’ve finished the season with a  73-9 mark that eclipsed the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls’ 72-10 record, as the most victorious single-season in NBA history.

Shaquille O’Neal and LeBron James both fell one vote shy of unanimous selection in 2000 and 2013, respectively. Curry joins Tom Brady (2010 NFL MVP) and Wayne Gretzky (1982 Hart Trophy winner) as the only unanimous MVP’s in their respective leagues. There have been 17 unanimous MVPs in MLB history, the latest being Bryce Harper as the NL MVP last season.

Curry is the first player in NBA history, at any position, to average 30 ‎points per game in less than 35 minutes per game over a full season. He also shattered his own single-season record for 3-pointers made with 402. His ‎previous record was 286 last year. The “Golden Boy” joins Steve Nash and his coach, Steve Kerr, as the only players in league history to shoot at least 50 percent from the floor, 45 percent from 3-point range and 90 percent from the line in a single-season.

The 28-year-old is the 11th player to win back-to-back fantasy basketball MVP awards in the NBA’s 70-years existence. James was the last to achieve this feat in 2012 and 2013.

Fantasy Playoffs Basketball Preview

The Raptors have been disappointing this 1st round of playoffs and come in this game pumped, hoping to snap their first round series losing streak. They’re on verge of getting knocked out for the 4th straight time in the first round of NBA playoffs basketball, and it would be such of shame after this record winning regular season and talented squad’s efforts. Unfortunately for the Raptors, their two top players DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry are struggling at the worst potential time. Even though they’ve received some extra surprising efforts from Bismack Biyombo who’s 8 or more boards per game in 4 straight contests could help their resurgence. Defense has been a key indicator in every wins in this series, as the winning team has always scored at least 100 Pts. The Raptors are favorite in this one statically speaking and on paper, however we’ve seen them have ridiculous issues in previous Game 7 matchups.

Indiana has really surprised everyone and rocked the odds in this series. They took care of business on home court and have been playing exceptionally well in defense. A matter fact, they were able to hold Toronto to only 37% shooting from the field and a mere 39 pts in last game’s 2nd half. All of their starters were in double digit scoring figures in their win. Paul George’s playoff comeback has been very effective and his peers Monta Ellis, Myles Turner and George Hill have all stepped up in their nothing to lose approach to the game.

Fantasy Basketball Thunder vs Spurs Game 1 Preview

The 2nd ranked San Antonio pretty much swept the Grizzlies in a commanding fashion as expected. They’re coming off a full week of rest and ready to head back into back after posting their 7th series swept in 9 years. The league’s Defensive Player of the Year, Kawhi Leonard had a tremendous first round. He was not only a threat offensively but was also impressive in the rebounding section, constantly making him a fantasy lineup sure shot. His French peer, Tony Parker was also solid from the field with his mix of speed and dribbling. their big man LaMarcus Aldridge ended up the series on a double-double note and averages 14.5 pts with 8 boards a game. It seems like he’s found his Trail Blazers’ rhythm and fits right in with the Spurs. This could be extremely menacing for the Thunder as well as the defending champions, Golden State Warriors.

The Thunder finished off the Dallas Mavericks this past Monday to end the series in 5 games. This will be the first time that Oklahoma City advances to the Semifinals in 2 years. Russell Westbrook has been putting up MVP numbers this year and even in the series against the Mavs. His sidekick, Kevin Durant is as consistent as it gets. Westbrook finished off Monday with 36 pts, 12 boards and 9 assists and frequently posts near triple double numbers. Durant finished with 33 pts on monday with 7 boards. Durant and Westbrook are ranked 4th and 5th in the postseason scoring race with each averaging around 26 pts. They’ve had some help as well from Steven Adam who recorded a double double too. This will be the first time that both teams meet since 2014 when they lost the series 4-2 against the Spurs in the Conference Finals. The season series is split at 2-2 and this series will be one hell of a show.

Stephen Curry Injury Update

With the news that Stephen Curry has a sprained MCL and will be reevaluated in two weeks, this will likely shake up many predictions, assumptions and outcome of this year’s NBA Playoffs. Our writers at FanPicks put this article together to have more insights and implications on the Stephen Curry Injury Update situation.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AzhcPmGfPZo

Earlier today, the news broke out after Stephen Curry’s MRI that he would be unavailable for the next 2 weeks on the court. This is not a small story. Actually, it’s quite a shocker while Warriors’ fans and many NBA playoffs viewers would’ve loved to see him go 100% as the Warriors continue their march towards history.

Curry the league’s current MVP and best player is a victim of those ill-timed injuries that other top players like Derrick Rose, Russell Westbrook, Kevin Garnett, Kyrie Irving and dozens of other huge names whose injuries clearly titled championship odds of their teams.

If this injury is prolonged, he will likely be less than a 100% on his return and facing teams like the Thunder or the Spurs will put their championship odds in serious jeopardy.

Many people may blame their physical fatigue in their quest to 73 regular season wins but in other circumstances, good for them and good call from Steve Kerr to rest his players for the playoffs like Gregg Popovich.
