Here’s what our best RBC Canadian Open 2018 lineup looks like:
Bubba’s having a weird season — three wins, but missed cuts at the last two majors. Sadly for our friends to the north, this is not a major. Bubba’s crushing it at the mid-tier events this year, and he’s a course horse who finished second at Glen Abbey in 2015. Look for Watson to do a little points racing this week and get in prime position to win a FedExCup.
Kisner’s another guy with a feast-or-famine feel to him this year, but he feasted at Carnoustie with a gutsy T2, his second runner-up of the season. With huge names rising and falling all around him, Kisner held at least a piece of the Open lead after each of the first three rounds. T26 in his Glen Abbey debut last year.
The Hoff’s notoriously streaky, and he’s overdue for a run of top 5s, although he is riding an active streak of four straight top 20s, two of them majors. His last three trips to Glen Abbey have yielded a tasty smorgasbord of T16-T7-P2. We like that trend line.
Sneds is having a disappointing season, but there are hopeful markers leading into this week. For one, he’s a course horse, with a win at Glen Abbey in 2013 and a T5 in 2016. And despite his struggles this year, he can count two top-6 finishes (T6 at St. Jude and T3 at Greenbrier) among his last five starts.
Harold Varner III
Varner’s last two outings: a T5 at the Greenbrier and a solo 6 at the John Deere. Be honest — you’d take that every day and twice on Sundays from your fifth pick. HV3 hasn’t learned how to win yet, but he’s right on the cusp, so grab this sleeper while he’s cheap.
The rookie’s rounding into form with a T2 at the John Deere and a T7 at the Barbasol in his last two outings. Glen Abbey tends to reward ball-strikers, and Ryder is third on Tour in GIR.
