John Deere Classic Predictions
The John Deere Classic golf tournament is set for July 12-15 at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill. That means it’s time to pick your optimal FanPicks fantasy golf lineup. Fortunately, our fantasy golf experts are ready to help.
Here’s what our best John Deere Classic 2018 lineup looks like:
Zach Johnson ($7,900)
As course horses go, they don’t come any studlier than ZJ at the John Deere. Zach has plowed over the TPC Deere Run track to the tune of a 66.89 scoring average since 2009, posting a win and five other top-3 finishes. The pride of neighboring Cedar Rapids, Iowa, is as close to a sure thing this week as the hobby can muster.
Brian Gay ($6,300)
A lackluster field leaves us mining for hidden gems like Gay, who’s writing a nice final chapter to his career at age 46. He’s made his last seven cuts, including playing a rare weekend at the Greenbrier (T39), and he has four top 20s over that span, including a solid T8 at the Quicken Loans National.
Kelly Kraft ($5,800)
Kraft snagged a spot in next week’s British Open at Carnoustie with a solo second at the Greenbrier in what could be a major turning point in an otherwise lackluster season. His Open ticket punched, he could relax his way into another top-10 finish this week.
Joel Dahmen ($5,700)
Dahmen’s been lurking, with eight top 25s in 22 starts this season, including six in his last eight. He had four rounds in the 60s at the Greenbrier in posting a career-best T5. Stash the name for future reference beyond this week.
Scott Stallings ($5,400)
His last two showings at the Deere — T16 and T5 — provide the rationale for this trip to the bargain bin. Last year, a Friday-Saturday pair of 64s provided the meat to a top-5 sandwich at Deere Run. He dismantled the par 5s on his way to a T13 at the Greenbrier last weekend.
Scott Brown ($5,200)
On this week’s roster of sleepers, Brown is snoring the loudest with zero top-50 finishes in his last six starts. So what’s he doing here? Well, check his record at the Deere: five top 25s in six starts, including a T5 in 2014. You’ll take that from your sixth man.
