Pebble Beach National Pro AM Tournament Recap – 02/15/16
AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro AM 2016 Golf Tournament
With the Augusta Masters in less than 8 weeks, Vaughan Taylor took the PGA Tour world by surprise with a stunning win this Sunday. Fanpicks is proud to bring you this Fantasy Golf news of the Pebble Beach National Pro Am tournament:
The Pebble Beach Pro-Am this weekend looked to be in the books entering the last round for Phil Mickelson but the fairy tale scenario happened to be in favor of Vaughan Taylor.
Taylor, who trailed Mickelson by six shots entering the final round hadn’t won in 11 years on the TOUR. He even didn’t have eligibility to play a full year on PGA Tour card since 2013.
Taylor surprised everyone at Pebble Beach on the back 9 of the last stretch where he shot 4 straight birdies to close with a 7-under 65. That finish still wasn’t enough to force Mickelson into a playoff. Then Taylor got 1 big last surprise: Mickelson missed. He entered Pebble Beach tournament ranked 407th on the Tour, this life and career changing victory also helped him automatically qualify for the prestigious Masters tournament in his hometown Augusta.
World number 1 ranked Jordan Spieth closed the tournament with a solid 66 but finished tied at the 21st spot and ending his streak of 7 straight top 10 finishes since September.
Phil Mickelson has been multiplying great performances this start of this season and validated them this weekend at Pebble Beach. He will be trying to bounce back from the heartbreak of missing a 5 foot putt in the last hole of the tournament and hopefully leave the runner up seat in the upcoming events, currently on his longest victory drought of his professional career on the Tour, his last victory dating back to the British Open in 2013.
