NFL Monday Night Fantasy Football Recap – Detroit Lions vs Seattle Seahawks
Defense was the name of the game in the scoring Monday matchup between the Detroit Lions and the Seattle Seahawk. The game ended in dramatic fashion. After a 91 yard drive and just under 2 minutes left in the game, Matthew Stafford and the Lions offense were 11 yards from the goal line. A goal kick was all that were separating them in the score. The Lions quarterback sends the football towards Calvin Johnson, who has an open path until reaching the 1 yard line. Earl Thomas shoulder to shoulder hit slowed Johnson run and Kam Chancellor was able to box out the football from behind, off the plunging receiver who was reaching for the end zone. If not for Chancellor’s heads up play, Johnson would’ve scored the touchdown and Detroit would’ve led by at least 4 points at the end of the 4th quarter. Controversy followed, as the play could’ve been called by the officials for hitting the ball. But the Seahawks prevailed and were able to win by a score of 13-10.
It wasn’t the best night for Russell Wilson. He has lost 2 fumbles during the 4th quarter, with one that was returned for a touchdown. It allowed the momentum to shift towards the Lions and get them back in the game. The last time that Wilson threw two interceptions in the game was October 17 2013 against the Arizona Cardinals. Despite that, he was still able to get some slick plays through the game. His running skill is one of the best in the NFL. He has collected 287 yards with 1 touchdown, while throwing no interception and rushing for 40 yards.
Matthew Stafford didn’t fare much better. He had 203 passing yards with nothing else to show for. The Georgia alumni was still able to reach over a 1000 yards through week 4. A fifth year over 4000 yards for Stafford is not yet out of line.
Marshawn Lynch was taken out of the starting lineup due to back problems during warmups. Comes the rookie Thomas Rawls. He wasn’t a big factor in the game, gathering a total of 48 yards without a touchdown.
Ameer Abdullah was another player who got stuffed by an amazing defense. He has gained a meager 33 yards without any touchdown.
Jermaine Kearse had the biggest gains of the night with his 50 yards cap off of the night. He has finished the game with 84 yards. Another one who was pretty impressive, even though he had one lost fumble during a punt return, was Tyler Lockett who has accumulated 58 yards as a receiver. Doug Baldwin finished third in the team yards gained with 36 and was responsible for the lone offensive touchdown of the game.
Calvin Johnson was the busiest receiver for the Lions with 7 reception and 56 yards. But in the end, he couldn’t complete the most important catch of the game. 3rd string tight end Timothy Wright had a 26 yard gain in the last drive of the game for Detroit. He came in the game to replace Eric Ebron who got injured during the game.
Both defense were phenomenal, and the score can prove it. James Ihedigbo and Ziggy Ansah were responsible for the Lions forced fumbles. Big man Caraun Reid was able to returned Ihedigbo’s fumble for a 27 yards touchdown. The most important fumble though came from the Seattle side. Kam Chancellor created a controversial fumble that allowed the Seahawks to preserve their lead in the game.
The NFL VP of officiating later revealed that a penalty should’ve been called and the Lions would’ve kept possession of the ball. What do you think? Comment below and voice your opinion.
