Seattle Signs Veteran Running Back
The Seattle Seahawks added depth to their running back position with a one year contract given to former Buffalo Bills running back Fred Jackson.
His numbers dipped during the 2014 campaign. He had 141 carries for 525 yards for just 3.7 yards per rush attempt. That was his worst yards per carry number in his career. Jackson had just two rushing touchdowns and fumbled the football five times. The question for Seattle is who will Jackson take carries away from.
Following the Super Bowl winning year Lynch improved on his yards per carry average by a half yard over the 2013 campaign. The running back carried the ball 280 times for 1306 yards and a 4.7 yards per rush average. He had a career long 79 yard run plus his 13 rushing touchdowns in 2014 was a career high. Lynch is an underrated weapon in the passing game. Marshawn Lynch caught 37 balls last year for 367 yards and four touchdowns with 65 first down rushes. He average nearly 10 yards per reception and had 16 first down catches.
He suffered a high ankle sprain and could miss the first five weeks of the season. The Seahawks are thinking of cutting the fourth year back out of Utah St. He had 74 carries last year and two touchdowns. He only averaged 4.2 yards per rush last year. It was an improvement over his 3.4 yards a carry in 2013. But with a healthy Fred Jackson available the Seahawks probably wouldn’t want to wait for Turbin to recover from his ankle sprain and just pencil in Jackson to backup Lynch.
The third year back from Texas A&M will try and beat out Fred Jackson for the backup role to Marshawn Lynch. In 2014 Michael had just 34 carries for 175 yards which amounted to a 5.1 yards per carry average. He had a 45 yard run that skewed the carry average a bit.
Jacksonville Announces Starting Running Back
The rookie will get the start for the Jaguars in week one. His big issue in college was ball security as he fumbled the ball ten times.
The former Michigan product has been converted from quarterback to running back with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He had 135 carries for 582 yards and four touchdowns which amounted to 4.3 yards a carry. Jaguars would like to see more production in the passing game as Robinson had 23 receptions but averaged only 5.4 yards per reception.
Gerhart is entering his sixth season in the NFL. He needs to improve greatly this year as he rushed it 101 times for just 326 yards which amounted to a poor 3.2 yards per rush average.
Miami Rookie Running Back Diagnosed with Cracked Rib
Ajayi had a nice game in the final preseason game with 66 rushing yards on nine rushing attempts. He suffered a cracked rib and could be a candidate for IR.
Browns Running Back Situation
Head coach Mike Pettine is leaning towards Crowell to get the start in Week 1. In his rookie campaign with the Browns Crowell had 607 rushing yards on 148 carries with eight rushing touchdowns. He ran for 4.1 yards per carry last year.
He enters his second season and will backup Crowell. West ran for 673 yards last year on 171 carries for 3.9 yards per carry. He had four touchdowns and 30 first down gains.
Browns Veteran Signee Could Have Trouble Making 53 Man Roster
Bowe has been unimpressive in training camp. He has been listed as a starting wide receiver on the depth chart. Head coach Mike Pettine tried to diffuse rumors of a possible outright release of Bowe.
LeSean McCoy Update
LeSean McCoy: There were media reports that McCoy would be ready for week one. He has been bothered by a hamstring injury in preseason. Later in the day he told the media to wait and see.
