It will be a battle in the NL East division on ESPN Wednesday night baseball as the Washington Nationals will host the New York Mets. Fantasy draft GM’s can tune to ESPN TV on Wednesday September 9th at 7PM Eastern Time to track the results of their rosters.

This series began on Monday and it was the New York Mets posting a key 8-5 victory to take a five game lead over the Nationals with just 25 games remaining on the schedule. The Mets are leading the NL East with an outstanding starting pitching staff. New York is third in Team ERA (3.38), first in MLB in WHIP (1.18) and is second in Major League Baseball in quality starts (89). The Mets moves to improve their offensive production around the trading deadline have worked especially Yoenis Cespedes who is coming through with big hits for the Mets. Cespedes is a free agent at the end of the season so there is some money motivating this production.

The Washington Nationals with the loss on Monday broke some of their momentum as the club has won five straight after their four game sweep of the Braves over the weekend. The starting pitching has been good but not great which was the expectations for this staff when the season started. The Nationals are further behind in the wildcard race trailing the Cubs by 8 ½ games but nine games in the loss column.

New York Mets 3B: David Wright returned to the Mets lineup after an injury sidelined him. The 11 year veteran has hit .318 over his past seven days. He has multiple hits in three of his past five games.

New York Mets CF: Yoenis Cespedes is looking at a giant payday come seasons end. The soon to be free agent is coming off a three hit game on Monday. He had two doubles and a homer with two RBIs which proved huge in the big win for New York in the series opener. Cespedes has multiple hits in five of his past six games and is hitting .464 for the month of September.

New York Mets 2B: Daniel Murphy looks to break a 2 for 11 slump. His average is down to .278 with ten homers and 59 RBIs. He is batting just .203 against Washington pitching.

New York Mets SS: Wilmer Flores had two hits in the Mets win on Monday. He has been hot of late with a .357 batting average with two homers and four RBIs in September.

New York Mets RF: Curtis Granderson had two doubles with an RBI on Monday. He had been on a 2 for 15 slump in September entering the opener.

New York Mets P: Jacob DeGrom in 26 starts in 2015 is 12-7 with an ERA of 2.40 and WHIP of 0.96. The Mets have lost his past two starts after going 8-0 in the previous eight starts. DeGrom worked on September 4th and allowed three earned runs and nine hits over six innings as he received a no decision in a 6-5 road loss at Miami.

Washington Nationals RF: MVP candidate Bryce Harper has been on fire for the month of September with a batting average of .474 with three homers and six RBIs. On the year Harper has 34 homers and 83 RBIs.

Washington Nationals 3B: Yunel Escobar is coming off a two hit game on Monday. He has multiple hits in two straight and four of his past five games. Escobar is hot for the month of September with a .448 batting average. The third baseman has nine homers and 46 RBIs on the season.

Washington Nationals CF: Michael Taylor has struggled against Mets pitching with a .189 batting average on the year.

Washington Nationals C: Wilson Ramos is hitting .280 in September with a homer and seven RBIs. For the year the Nationals catcher has 13 homers and 61 RBIs.

Washington Nationals P: Stephen Strasburg is 8-6 in 18 starts with an ERA of 4.35 and WHIP of 1.26. He last worked on August 30th and allowed four earned runs and seven hits over four innings in a 7-4 victory against Miami.
