NHL MINvsANA 1-20-16

Talented defenseman Sami Vatanen was out of the lineup recently due to a flu, but Head Coach Bruce Boudreau indicated Wednesday afternoon that the smooth-skating Finn will be back for his Ducks tonight.

With 6 goals and 16 assists for the offensively challenged Ducks, Vatanen’s presence will be key if they hope to beat Minnesota. Not only does he make plays himself, he makes everyone on the ice around him better. Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry must play up to par versus the deep Wild roster and carry the load up front.

The Wild are a deep and highly skilled team who haven’t quite put it all together yet this season. Mikko Koivu leads the team in scoring (33 points in 45 games), but Zach Parise (27 points in 36 games) and Mikael Granlund (4 goals in 45 games) really need to step up if they have any post-season dreams.

Devin Dubnyk, 18-14-4, 2.27 GAA, .921 Sv% and four shutouts should be getting the start for Minnesota, while rookie All-Star John Gibson gets the start for Anaheim. The American has a 9-7-2 record with a strong 1.90 GAA and .923 Sv%.

Tune in for what should be a close game on the West Coast tonight.
