Blue Jays Flex Their Muscles in Rout of New York Yankees—Toronto Lead Up to 2 ½ in AL East
It was Game 1 of the four game series on Friday night between the Toronto Blue Jays and New York Yankees. The Blue Jays got off to a fast 5-0 start in the first inning in their 11-5 road win at the Yankees to move to 2 ½ games ahead of New York in the NL East division race. The Blue Jays clobbered Yankee pitching for 16 hits in the victory. Seven Blue Jays hitters had multiple hit games. They play a doubleheader on Saturday to make up for the rain out on Thursday.
Donaldson is coming off a two hit night with a home run and two RBIs. He has had four multiple hits games in his past five games. Josh Donaldson’s batting average is now up to .308 with 38 homers and 117 RBIs.
Bautista doesn’t hit for high average because he strikes out a lot. He had two hits in the win on Friday. In September Bautista is hitting.320. The Blue Jays right fielder had 33 homers and 96 RBIs on the year.

The former Colorado Rockie Tulowitzki had two hits and an RBI in the opener. He was battling a 4 for 30 batting slump entering the game.

Cespedes Continues to Crush Pitchers in September—Mets Now Up 8 ½ Games over Nationals
With the Washington Nationals continuing their downward spiral, the New York Mets gained a game in the standings after their 5-1 road win at Atlanta. With the Nationals 2-1 road loss at Miami on Friday the Mets were able to extend their NL East lead to 8 ½ games. The Mets were able to lengthen a 2-1 lead with late inning magic with a run in the eighth and two runs in the ninth. New York had 11 hits in victory. They got a good five innings from starter Steven Matz and the Mets bullpen threw four scoreless innings.
It was another huge night for the Mets centerfielder on Friday night. Cespedes had three hits with a double and home run in the victory. His September batting average is now sitting at .390 with six homers and 13 RBIs.
The Mets 24 year old left hander went five innings and allowed one earned run and six hits over five innings. He is 3-0 with one no decision in his four career starts.
