Rangers Complete Sweep of Astros—Increase Lead to 2 ½ Games in AL West Race
The Texas Rangers continued their power surge as they complete the three game sweep of the Houston Astros on Thursday by the score of 8-2. Texas piled up ten hits in the victory. The loss also meant that Houston gave up some ground on the LA Angels in the AL Wildcard race. The Angels gained a game on Houston to 2 ½ games behind for the final playoff spot with just 15 games left to be played. The Astros hold a narrow one game lead in the loss column over the Minnesota Twins.
Houston Astros SS:
The Houston Astros shortstop has been hot of late with a .308 batting average the past seven days. Correa had two hits with a double on Thursday. His average is now up to .276 with 18 homers and 52 RBIs.
Houston Astros DH:
Gattis had a double with a run scored and RBI in the Thursday loss. He delivers power with not much batting average on the year. The DH is batting .240 with 24 homers and 80 RBIs. His numbers are better at home and that’s where the Astros return this weekend. Evan Gattis is batting .268 at home on the campaign.
Houston Astros 1B:
It was a two hit game with an RBI to move Valbueno up to .210 for the season. He has 22 homers with 50 RBIs on the season. Valbueno is battling a September slump with a .190 batting average.
Houston Astros P:
The Astros have lost four straight games with McCullers on the mound. On Thursday the right hander worked six innings and allowed three earned runs and five hits with a homer. This season McCullers is 5-6 with an ERA of 3.18 and WHIP of 1.22.
Texas Rangers RF:
Shin Soo Choo
The Rangers right fielder has been red hot with a .424 batting average for the month of September with 10 RBIs. After a three hit game on Wednesday Choo delivered with four hits with two runs scored and two RBIs on Thursday. He has three hits or more in three of his past five games. Choo has 18 homers and 69 RBIs on the year.

Beltre is another hot Ranger. He had two hits with two doubles and an RBI in the win on Thursday. In the four games against the Astros Adrian Beltre went 9 for 17. Prior to the Astros series Beltre had 5 RBIs against Oakland on Sunday.

Heading into Thursday Mitch Moreland was a battling a 3 for 19 slump. He contributed with a key three run homer in the game on Thursday. For the year Moreland is batting .283 with 21 homers and 77 RBIs.
Texas Rangers DH:
The Texas DH has been red hot with a batting average of .400 over his past seven days. He concluded the key Astros series going 8 for 16 with three homers and eight runs batted in. Fielder has 21 homers and 83 RBIs on the season.
Texas Rangers P:
The Rangers right hander leads the team with wins. In his 30 starts Lewis is 16-8 with an ERA of 4.41 and WHIP of 1.21. He has put back to back good outings in his recent starts. On Thursday Lewis limited the Astros to two earned runs and seven hits over six innings of work. His prior start was on September 11th and he shut out the Oakland Athletics on two hits tossing a complete game nine innings.
