Mets starter Noah Syndergaard threw 5 1/3rd innings and gave up one earned run and just three hits. The Mets went to their bullpen with four relievers who combined for 3 1/3rd innings of scoreless relief to register the win. Mets second baseman Daniel Murphy continued his hot hitting in the playoffs with a homer and two RBIs in the victory. Cubs starter Jake Arrieta had his second bad start in a row as his regular season magic may have worn out for the playoffs. Arrieta in five innings allowed four earned runs and four hits with a homer.
