Blue Jays Win 5-1—Extend Lead over Yankees

The Toronto Blue Jays are now one game up on the loss column over the Yankees after their win on Saturday against the Orioles. David Price gave the Blue Jays a good pitching performance and the Toronto batters had 10 hits.

David Price:

He pitched a good seven innings in the victory by holding the Orioles to just one earned run and three hits over seven innings. He got away with four walks and struck out eight. In his seven starts for Toronto, Price has allowed two earned runs or fewer in five of those games.

Jose Bautista:

The right fielder had two hits and two RBIs with a home run on Saturday. His average is up to .246 with 32 homers and 91 RBIs. Bautista’s batting average is low because of his 86 strikeouts on the year.

Kevin Pillar:

His two hits on Saturday increased his batting average to .266. That’s back to back games for Pillar with multiple hits. Pillar is now hitting .266 on the year with 9 homers and 45 RBIs.

Yankees Bats are Quiet in 3-2 Loss to Rays

The Rays did their damage early by posting a 3-0 lead over the Yankees after three innings. The Yankees bullpen did a good job by allowing no runs and just one hit over 3 2/3rd innings.

Nathan Eovaldi:

The Yankee starter again failed to go deep in his start. He worked just 5 1/3rd innings and allowed three earned runs and five hits. Two starts back Eovaldi allowed five earned runs and eight hits on August 30th to a struggling Atlanta Braves hitting lineup.

Chase Headley:

The New York third baseman had two hits on Saturday. He had been battling a 1 for 10 hitting slump for September as he entered play.

Alex Rodriguez:

The Yankees DH had a 0 for 3 on Saturday in defeat. His batting average is .255 with solid power numbers. Rodriguez had 27 homers and 75 RBIs. ARod has no multiple hit games in his past 12 games.

Jake Arrieta Strong Performance Leads Cubs to Victory

The Chicago Cubs helped their NL Wildcard hopes after a 2-0 home victory to Arizona on Saturday afternoon. The Cubs won despite only two hits for the entire game.

Jake Arrieta:

The Cubs starter had another outstanding start to move to 18-6 on the year. Arrieta allowed no earned runs over eight innings giving up just four hits. That was on the heels of a no hitter he threw at the LA Dodgers last Sunday night in a nine inning complete game victory. Arrieta has allowed no earned runs in four straight starts and in six of seven starts.

Dexter Fowler:

The center fielder had a home run in the victory. He had been in a 1 for 11 hitting slump entering this game on Saturday.

Starlin Castro:

The five year pro had a two hit game on Saturday. Castro is batting .417 over his past seven games. He had a three hit game last Sunday night against the LA Dodgers.
