Florida State has one of the most prolific freshman duos in ACC history. Malik Beasley and Dwayne Bacon are each averaging over 15 points per game. Point guard Xavier Rathan-Mayes come s third in team-scoring with 11.8 points per game. The Seminoles are also rewarded by the solid contribution of Devon Bookert off the bench. The issue with this team is their lack of defensive acumen. They’ve let Virginia Tech shoot 60.9% in the second-half and get away with the victory, this past Saturday. The loss was their fourth straight one, giving them their worst stretch since February 2007. Florida State has also lost eight straight road game against ranked opponents.
Since losing Amile Jefferson to a broken foot, Duke has gone primarly with with a six-man starting rotation. Their lack of depth was tested at Louisville, as Matt Jones was out because of an ankle injury and fellow guard, Derryck Thornton, left the game with a shoulder ailment. Both are expected to play tonight though. The Blue Devil have been relying on their solid shooting range since losing Jefferson. Grayson Allen (21 points/G) and Brandon Ingram (17 points/G) have been excellent from the perimeter, shooting over 40%.
The Blue Devils are 19-2 when scoring 70 or more points, while Florida State has allowed at least 70 in five of its last six games. The Blue Devils are tied for fifth in the ACC standings and could have an outside shot at a share of the conference title by winning their final four games.
