Fantasy Baseball Preview

Wednesday Night Baseball features two playoff contenders as the San Francisco Giants are at home to face the Chicago Cubs. MLB fantasy draft managers can tune to ESPN Wednesday Night August 26th from San Francisco at 10:15PM Eastern Time to follow the scoring results of their rosters.

As the teams open this series on Tuesday the Cubs have a record of 72-51. They are just six games in the loss column back of the first place St Louis Cardinals in the NL Central. Chicago holds the last wildcard spot in the NL by 6 ½ games over the San Francisco Giants. The Cubs are in a great spot for the post season with 39 games remaining because of the work they are getting from their pitching staff. Chicago is fifth best in Team ERA (3.51) and sit third in MLB in WHIP (1.20). Offensively they sit in the upper third of baseball in home runs at 129 to date. They don’t hit for average very good at .242 ranking 28th and third worst in the league.

San Francisco is chasing Chicago in the NL Wildcard race. The Giants are much closer to the NL West division title as they trail the first place LA Dodgers by just two games in the loss column heading into the opener of their series against the Dodgers. Their record is 66-58 on the campaign heading into Tuesday night after returning home losers of four of their past five games. The Giants hit for average at .269 on the year but run production can be an issue at times with lack of timely hitting.

Chicago Cubs 1B: Anthony Rizzo leads the everyday hitters with a batting average of .291 with 25 homers and 77 RBIs. He is batting .311 away from home.

Chicago Cubs 3B: Kris Bryant is having a great month of August with a batting average of .328 with six homers and 15 RBIs. He has moved his average up to .262 with 20 homers and 75 RBIs.

Chicago Cubs CF: Dexter Fowler has been hot with a .423 batting average over his past seven days with two homers. His average is now.255 with 14 homers and 36 RBIs.

Chicago Cubs LF: Chris Coghlan has a .304 hitting average in his past seven days. He has belted two homers and drove in six runs in that span. On the year Coghlan has his batting average up to .250.

Chicago Cubs 2B: Addison Russell is another hot Cub at the plate with a .381 batting average with two homers over his past seven days.

Chicago Cubs P: Kyle Hendricks will make his 25th start on Wednesday. He is 6-5 with an ERA of 4.03 and WHIP of 1.22. He has struggled of late by allowing 11 earned runs over his past three games tossing only 13 2/3rd innings.

San Francisco Giants C: Buster Posey looks to break a 3 of 25 slump as he returns home to start this series on Tuesday with the Cubs. On the year he is batting .314 with 16 homers and 79 RBIs.

San Francisco Giants 3B: Matt Duffy has been a great replacement for the Panda at third base. He is batting .323 for the month of August. Duffy for the year is hitting .308 with ten homers and 59 RBIs.

San Francisco Giants 1B: Brandon Belt has hits in three of four games. He is batting .274 on the year with 17 homers and 59 RBIs.

San Francisco Giants SS: Brandon Crawford has put up some good power numbers with 19 homers and 75 RBIs. His batting average is .267 on the season.

San Francisco Giants LF: Nori Aoki is hitting .301 on the campaign with 4 homers and 25 RBIs. He had a three hit game on August 21st at Pittsburgh.

San Francisco Giants P: Jake Peavy is 3-6 with an ERA of 4.35 and WHIP of 1.29 as he starts his 12th game of the year. He has given up nine earned runs total over his past two starts tossing 11 2/3rd innings.
