Fantasy Baseball Preview – Chicago Cubs vs Los Angeles Dodgers – 8-30-15 – MLB
Sunday Night Baseball for August 30th features two playoff contenders from the National League as the LA Dodgers will host the Chicago Cubs. Fantasy Baseball draft managers can tune to ESPN TV at 8PM Eastern Time from Dodgers Stadium to watch the game and track the performance of their rosters.
The regular season is winding down and the Cubs as we close out the month of August are in a good position for a post season spot. Chicago as they open the series Friday night against LA has a record of 73-53. In the NL Wildcard race they hold a 5 ½ game lead over the San Francisco Giants for the final spot. The Cubs have gotten some good work out of their pitching staff by sitting sixth in the league in ERA (3.57) and are fifth best in WHIP (1.20). The bats have struggled as the Cubs team hitting average of .241 is the worst in baseball.
The LA Dodgers can breathe a somewhat sigh of relief as they return home to Dodger Stadium on Friday off a three game sweep of the Cincinnati Reds. As they took the field to open up this weekend series, LA held a three game lead in the loss column over the Giants in the NL West race. LA has similar problems as Chicago. The Dodgers have put up some good pitching stats but their hitting has slumped for the better part of three months after they opened the year hot at the plate. Starters Zach Greinke and Clayton Kershaw have anchored the starting rotation. LA has been hit with several injuries to their other starters and in the bullpen.
Chicago Cubs 1B: Anthony Rizzo had a home run off Kershaw on Friday night to tie the game early at 1-1. His average is up to .287 with 26 homers and 78 RBIs. He has hits in eight of nine games.
Chicago Cubs 3B: Kris Bryant had a forgettable game on Friday night as he strikes out four times going 0 for 4. He is batting .262 on the campaign with 20 homers and 77 RBIs. The hit streak ended at seven games.
Chicago Cubs CF: Dexter Fowler had a hit in four at bats on Friday. His batting average is .275 for August. On the year Fowler had 14 homers and 36 RBIs.
Chicago Cubs LF: Chris Coghlan is batting a 2 for 17 slump at the moment. For the year he is hitting .248 with 15 homers and 35 RBIs.
Chicago Cubs 2B: Addison Russell after a 0 for 3 on Friday is in a slump. Russell is 3 for his past 16 at the plate to drop his batting average to .243.
Chicago Cubs P: Jon Lester in 25 starts in 2015 has a record of 8-9 on the campaign with an ERA of 3.44 and WHIP of 1.20. He bounced back from a bad start against Detroit on August 19th. On August 24th Lester held the Indians to one run over 8 2/3rd innings in victory.
LA Dodgers 1B: Adrian Gonzalez was in the lineup on Friday night and got a hit in the victory. His average is .283 with 24 homers and 74 RBIs. Gonzalez has just three homers in the month of August.
LA Dodgers 3B: Justin Turner looks to break a slump in the month of August as he is batting just .170. He is 4 for his past 22 at the plate.
LA Dodgers C: Switch hitter Yasmani Grandal has no hits in his past 15 at bats. His batting average has dropped to .268 with 15 homers and 44 RBIs.
LA Dodgers RF: Andre Ethier with a 1 for 2 on Friday is now batting .297 with 12 homers and 39 RBIs. He has been on fire for the month of August with a .386 hitting average.
LA Dodgers P: Mat Latos in three starts for the LA Dodgers has allowed 11 earned runs in 14 2/3rd innings. He is coming off a loss at home to Cincinnati on August 13 by giving up four earned runs in just 4 2/3rd innings of work.
