Fantasy Baseball News – Max Scherzer gets another no-hitter

Max Scherzer pitched his second no-hitter of the season. He becomes the 6th player to accomplish this feat in Major League Baseball. You can count Roy Halladay (2010), Nolan Ryan (1973), Virgil Trucks (1952), Allie Reynolds (1951) and Johnny Vander Meer (1938) to the list of player`s who had no-hitters twice in a season. Scherzer struckout 17 hitters, to set a Nationals new record. It also tied Nolan Ryan for most in any no-hitter.

The Nationals won 2-0 in a showdown against the Mets. If it wasn`t for Yunel Escobar error in the sixth, Scherzer would`ve had his perfect game. Despite that, Scherzer was happy with the performance. He accredited his current success to the September 23rd loss to the Baltimore Orioles. In that game, he realized that he needed to use his mind more than his intensity. The following game against the Reds, he came close to a no-hitter until it got broken off in the 8th. Back-to-back quality starts gives him renewed confidence in himself.

Scherzer signed a seven-year, $210 million deal at the beginning of the season. He is 14-12 with a 2.79 ERA and 276 strikeouts in 33 starts. The 31 years-old feels that there is still room for improvement. We will see next fantasy baseball season.
