The Pistons have gone back and forth in the wins and losses column lately, spending Tuesday night on receiving end of a 107-89 away loss to the Miami Heat. Tobias Harris and Reggie Jackson each scored 21 points, with the pair combining to go a impeccable 13 for 13 from the free throw line. In his 23 starts since landing with Detroit from Orlando a little before the trade deadline, Harris is averaging 16.5 points and 6.1 boards per game. Andre Drummond ended up with a 12-point, 13-board double-double, shooting 5 of 9 from the field. Drummond tops the NBA in double-doubles by a significant margin, with 65 to his name, in front of Russell Westbrook with 51. The team can ill afford more defeats with their postseason lives in the balance, as they currently hold the eighth spot in the East with the ninth place Bulls breathing down their necks just two games behind.
Orlando have won four of their past five outings, with their latest victory at home facing the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday, 119-107. Nikola Vucevic was relinquished to a bench role in his third game back from a groin injury, yet led the squad in scoring, posting a double-double with 25 points and 12 rebounds, going 10 of 19 from the paint and 5 of 7 from the charity stripe. Despite his time off, Vucevic remains the most potent offensive menace for the the Magic, averaging 18 points and 8.9 rebounds over the course of 61 games. Evan Fournier and Victor Oladipo recorded 20 points each, with Fournier going 3 of 8 from beyond the arc and forcing 3 turnovers and Oladipo taking in 5 boards. Aaron Gordon contributed to the cause with 14-point and 10-rebound for the double-double, as the Magic remain in 11th place in the Eastern Conference with five games left in their rocky 2015-16 campaign.
