Boise St Broncos versus Virginia Cavaliers

College Football Daily Fantasy Picks 9-25-2015

The Boise St Broncos are on the road in out of conference play to meet the Virginia Cavaliers on Friday night college football. Fantasy college football draft GM’s can tune to ESPN TV on September 25th at 8PM Eastern Time to follow the results of their roster picks.

Boise St makes the road trip east to Virginia with a record of 2-1. In week one the Broncos had a defensive struggle against the Washington Huskies winning just 16-13 as they were held scoreless in the second half. In week two the Broncos travelled to BYU and coughed up a fourth quarter lead in a 35-24 road defeat. Last week they crushed an FCS school Idaho St. Bad news for the Broncos as they are without starting quarterback Ryan Finley who is out for two months with a broken ankle. The Broncos have put up some pedestrian offensive numbers this year ranking mid-pack in most categories. On defense the Broncos are 21st in yards allowed by allowing 286 yards a game.

Virginia Cavaliers are 1-2 on the campaign with a head coach on a hot seat. They opened up the year with a 34-16 road defeat at UCLA then in week two lost to Notre Dame at home by the score of 34-27. Last week the team struggled past FCS school William & Mary 35-29. Virginia has not been good on both ends of the ball. They are 90th in total offense by averaging 375 yards a game and struggling running the football. On defense the Cavaliers rank 102nd in yards allowed by giving up 102 yards per game and doing poorly against both the run and pass.

Boise St Broncos QB:

Brett Rypien:

With the injury to Finley the Broncos will go with a two quarterback system. In relief last week Rypien completed 8 of 9 throws for 126 yards. He had a long throw of 46 yards. Rypien is a freshman quarterback.

Thomas Stuart:

A sophomore Stuart saw action last week against Idaho St and completed 9 of 13 throws for 69 yards with a touchdown. He took three sacks against his FCS opponent.

Boise St Broncos RB:

Jeremy McNichols

The sophomore running back has seen the bulk of the carries this year with 54 rushing attempts for 204 yards with seven touchdowns. He has scored two touchdowns or greater in each of his three games this year. In the passing game McNichols has caught eight passes for 73 yards and a touchdown.

Devan Demas

The backup has seen 12 carries and has rushed for 106 yards with a touchdown. Demas has a long run of 47 yards on the year.

Boise St Broncos WR:

Shane Williams-Rhodes

The Broncos wide out had his best game in week two against Boise St where he caught 11 balls for 107 yards with a long gain of 23 yards. On the year he has grabbed 18 passes for 173 yards.

Thomas Sperbeck

The junior wide out had his best game last week against Idaho St where he caught seven passes for 99 yards. A troubling stat is he didn’t produce much against FBS schools Washington and at BYU.

Virginia Cavaliers QB:

Matt Johns

A junior quarterback Johns has completed 66% of his throws for 790 yards with six touchdowns and three picks. He played well at home to Notre Dame in week two as he threw for 289 yards on 26 of 38 completions with two touchdowns.

Virginia Cavaliers RB:

Taquan Mizzell

Mizzell leads the Cavs in carries with 39 attempts for 155 yards. He is averaging just 4.0 yards per carry and hasn’t found the end zone yet. In three seasons the running back has just three touchdowns rushing. He has caught 17 passes for 233 yards and two touchdowns.

Virginia Cavaliers RB:

Canaan Severin

A senior wide receiver Severin has 19 catches for 264 yards with a touchdown. Against Notre Dame Severin grabbed 11 balls for 153 yards.

Keeon Johnson

Johnson has three receptions for 59 yards and a touchdown. Against Notre Dame he had a touchdown catch for 42 yards.
